Louis Vuitton Boat Shoes Might Be The New Wave

The end of the reign of the sneaker might be sooner than you think. After enjoying a thorough renaissance under the creative direction of Virgil Abloh, who brought a certain freshness to the historic French label, Louis Vuitton is set to debut a new shoe style.

The footwear in question was teased earlier this week on Instagram with a photo by Mathias Patillon, the head of design for men’s footwear at LV. While the designer has dabbled in streetwear and more formal tailoring, the new shoe is a departure from both. Based on the image, the new shoe is a durable Sperry-like loafer available in black, brown, and yellow. It’s definitely one of the preppier styles to come from the label but also an indication that it’s not afraid to push the needle. Is this new style just treading water or could boat shoes be the new wave? Only time will tell. As of now, no release date has been announced.

Stop by Off-White’s Jewelry Pop-Up Shop in Paris

As everyone heads to Paris for the final stretch of a seemingly never-ending fashion month, Off-White is opening a pop-up shop at Rue Saint-Honoré. Hoping to further promote its accessories range (beyond the yellow belts and chain-purses that are regular guests in most street style photos), the temporary shop will carry the Milan-based label’s unisex jewelry line and eyewear range from the Spring/Summer 2020 collection. Some key pieces include chunky branded silver rings that feature the brand’s arrow motif and assertive logo and accompanying earrings. On the other hand, the sunglasses selection is charmingly retro, with oversized ski lenses accented by brightly colored frames.

The Off-White Paris pop-up is open now at 229 Rue Saint-Honoré. It will be open for the rest of the week until March 3.

Louis Vuitton & UNICEF Release Silver Lockit by Virgil Abloh

Louis Vuitton has updated its Silver Lockit bracelet, which it first debuted in collaboration with UNICEF in 2016. Designed by Virgil Abloh, who launched the first range of the designer’s jewelry for men last year, the new silver bracelet echos the pastel and horticultural theme of the Spring/Summer 2020 collection while highlighting the label’s ongoing joint effort with the global non-profit as it continues its efforts to help vulnerable populations around the world.

The original design was inspired by a lock made by the late heir to the label Georges Vuitton in 1890. The new Silver Lockit has been reinterpreted in four colorways (black, orange, green, and blue) and incorporates a chunky chain motif, that Abloh first made famous with Off-White before carrying it over to Louis Vuitton, with a small engraved padlock charm. Partial proceeds from each sale of the Silver Lockit will be donated to UNICEF.

The Louis Vuitton x Silver Lockit bracelet is available in LV stores and online now.

Off-White Futura 2000

Take A Closer Look at Off-White x Futura 2000 Collaboration

Virgil Abloh first hinted at Off-White‘s collaboration with American graffiti artist Futura 2000 back in April 2019 with the Spring/Summer 2020 collection that featured pieces imprinted with his work. Earlier today, the brand announced the official launch of the collection on Instagram, with a photo shot by photographer Thibaut Grevet showing pieces from the highly-anticipated capsule, which features mainly white garments splattered in Futura’s signature style. Denim seems to be a focal point, with a range of jeans bedecked with graffiti-inspired designs. The collection also includes outerwear options like trench coats and blazers in addition to T-shirts, trousers, and other pieces emblazoned with the iconic Off-White logo.

Pieces from the Off-White x Futura collection are available at Ssense.com with more to launch online and in Off-White stores this summer.

Evian & Virgil Abloh Release Reusable Water Bottles

Evian collaborated with Virgil Abloh on a limited-edition collection that aims to address the global issue of sustainability. The “Activate Movement” collection includes a selection of reusable water bottles that feature a droplet motif that represents the potential impact simple small changes can make. Along with the collection, Evian is also launching the “Activate Movement” Program, a sustainable design contest that will give 18-35-year-old applicants a chance of winning a €50,000 grant to pursue their research.

“I believe that every little thing you do can change the status quo,” Abloh, Evian’s Creative Advisor for Sustainable Innovation Design, said in a statement. “That’s what inspired the ‘Activate Movement’ collection because a single drop can be the starting point of positive change. Every idea has to start somewhere, so we were thinking what if we could create that place? A place to empower the new generation.”

For more information on the “Activate Movement” initiative, check out Evian’s website.

Nike Reveals the 2020 Olympics Uniforms

Nike unveiled its 2020 Olympic line last night during New York Fashion Week, with special guests including Rosalía, Drake, and Virgil Abloh spotted in the front row. The athletic brand also featured a tribute to basketball legend Kobe Bryant, who died in a helicopter crash last month, with a line of six children who quietly took the stage in Bryant’s number 8 jerseys as they shared a moment of silence. The show continued with a complete runway presentation and a dance number with athletes and models performing side by side.

Another highlight of the show was the reveal of Off-White x Nike sneakers that Abloh teased on Instagram ahead of the show. We can expect more of the iconic Nike logo in Off-White quotation marks to come, with a hinted line of apparel as well. After the show, Abloh went backstage to celebrate the upcoming launch, where he was joined by the aforementioned guests and colleagues including French designer Simon Porte Jacquemus.

Louis Vuitton Makes Guitars Now

Nashville — commonly known as the Songwriting Capital of the World — just got a special treat for the reopening of its Louis Vuitton store at The Mall at Green Hills. After an extensive renovation, the newly opened boutique in the Tennessee capital is now the home of a pair of custom Gibson guitars customized by the French designer. The pair of limited-edition 1959 Gibson Les Paul guitars have been decorated with mother of pearl fretboard inlays and various takes on the brand’s logo — one instrument features hand-painted artwork by one of the designer’s in-house artisans and the other features a bold LV print.

The shop also introduced the Music Trunk, a live performance space designed in the shape of the brand’s historic travel trunks. It’s a first for the brand but makes sense — designers like LV’s own men’s artistic director Virgil Abloh and Dior’s Kim Jones are the new rock stars, so they might as well start acting like it.

The Louis Vuitton store at the Mall at Green Hills is open now at 2126 Abbott Martin Rd, Nashville, TN 37215,

Ermenegildo Zegna and Fear of God Are Joining Forces

The cultural pivot from streetwear to suiting is making a notable stride with Ermenegildo Zegna announcing a collaboration with the Los Angeles-based brand Fear of God. Designed over the last year, the collection is scheduled to make its global premiere during Paris Fashion Week next month.

A new take on tailoring is slated to take over menswear as we enter a new decade. Kim Jones and Virgil Abloh have expanded the parameters of what a suit can look like at Dior and Louis Vuitton, respectively, presenting a more romantic and delicate take on tailoring that almost seems like a direct contrast to both their streetwear backgrounds. An Italian designer as admired as Zegna partnering with Fear of God echos this sentiment, finding new ways to elevate conventional men’s pieces while making it accessible to a new demographic — a press release describes the collection, which includes full looks and accessories, as a “cross-pollination between Zegna renowned tailoring expertise and Fear of God’s unique take on modern luxury.”

The Zegna x Fear of God collection will be unveiled on March 2.

A First Look at the First Louis Vuitton Restaurant

It won’t be long until you’re able to order a cup of Louis Vuitton coffee. Just last week the French designer announced that it would be venturing into hospitality with the opening of its first restaurant as part of its new expansive flagship in Osaka. Fortunately for fans of the label, there won’t a major wait time: curious customers will be able to get a first taste of the new store and its cuisine when it opens this Saturday.

The monolithic multi-level flagship store will actually house two dining options — Sugalabo V and Le Café V — which were both designed in collaboration with Japanese chef Yosuke Suga. In addition to providing customers access to clothes, accessories, luggage, and more, the new flagship will provide an opportunity for fans of the Virgil Abloh-headed label to live, breathe, and even eat Louis Vuitton. This is the retail experience millennials crave.

The new Louis Vuitton store will open on February 1 at 2 Chome-8-16 Shinsaibashisuji, Chuo Ward, Osaka, 542-0085, Japan.

Louis Vuitton Inks Global Partnership with the NBA

This week in designer collabs no one saw coming: Louis Vuitton has announced a multi-year partnership with the NBA. The ongoing collaboration makes the French designer the first official Trophy Travel Case provider of the basketball league. Trunks have been a staple for the brand since its inception in 1858, with the label’s LV monogram becoming ubiquitous with luxury and travel. Its latest iteration will carry and display The Larry O’Brien Trophy which is presented during the NBA Finals in June.

“Louis Vuitton and the NBA are both icons and leaders in their respective fields, and the joining of the two promises exciting and surprising moments, forging historic memories together,” Louis Vuitton’s chairman and CEO Michael Burke said in a statement. “Louis Vuitton has long been associated with the world’s most coveted trophies, and with this iconic partnership the legacy continues – victory does indeed travel in Louis Vuitton!”

Additionally to housing the basketball trophy, the designer will release a capsule collection with the NBA later this year. The worlds of sports and designer have always had a solid symbiotic relationship, and since Virgil Abloh joined Louis Vuitton in 2018 he’s made an effort to inject the historic label with a timely street edge. This new partnership is just the latest effort to reposition the brand today and, consequently, continue to redefine the very notion of luxury in general.

A Look at Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2020 Campaign

With a bounty of cotton-candy pastel hues, Louis Vuitton‘s Spring/Summer 2020 men’s campaign aims to strike a conversation about boyhood and a type of universal innocence. On top of that, Virgil Abloh wanted to discuss man’s footprints on the planet — our extensive evidence of presence and impact. Shot in Morocco, the campaign balances the natural with the synthetic. There are flowers and local Moroccan models, but there are also kites, apparel, and bags. There are the windswept beaches, the grassy dunes, the oceans, and the soft colors of the sunset that provides a backdrop for the journey through boyhood.

Take a look at some of the images from the Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2020 campaign below.
