Virgil Abloh’s IKEA Collection Gets an Official Release Date

Even though the Virgil Abloh x IKEA furniture collaboration was first announced two years ago, progress has been somewhat slow. This is understandable, as Virgil has had a lot on his plate, whether it’s launching another range of household goods with Off-white, overseeing menswear at Louis Vuitton, or DJing his own Vegas residency — so much that his doctor told him to take a break for three months. But lovers of high-fashion and Scandinavian furniture can rejoice, for the collection of goods is officially coming next month.

On November 1, the Markerad (which roughly translates to “crisp” and “pronounced” in Swedish) collection hits stores. Here are some of the things to look forward to: a 3 x 7 foot rug in the likeness of a lengthy Ikea receipt, a brown shopping bag printed with the word “SCULPTURE,” a green rug that reads “WET GRASS,” and a light-up print of the Mona Lisa equipped with a USB port that is sure to be the hottest item in every dorm this winter.

There are some more straightforward options as well, including a lightwood chair and table set that requires no tool assembly and a clear-glass cabinet. So whether you’re into understated interiors or the occasional statement piece, the Markerad collection is a sure way to add some street cred to your humble abode.

Louis Vuitton Launches Behind-the-Scenes Series on YouTube

The next step for the French house Louis Vuitton is its own channel on Youtube, sensibly called LVTV. The new series will feature an inside look into the world of Virgil Abloh’s Louis Vuitton. Viewers will be able to access five different categories of the brand, including savoir-faire, institutional, friends of the House, travel, and campaigns. The trailer shows insight into Louis Vuitton’s recent cruise show at TWA Hotel in New York earlier this year as well as glimpses into the work of menswear mastermind Abloh. The YouTube series will make an effort to remove the wall of secrecy behind the brand and offer a transparent platform to demonstrate its commitment to fine craftsmanship.

Off-White x Undercover Capsule To Launch This Weekend

A marriage of contemporary fashion masterminds, Off-White has announced the release of an upcoming collaboration with Japanese streetwear brand Undercover. A collection of men’s staples — including but not limited to t-shirts, hoodies, shorts, denim pieces — has melded Off-White’s distinct iconography with the graphic XX of Undercover.

Highlights include a series of graphic t-shirts featuring skeleton illustrations — the designers have named this motif “dark matter.” In addition to various skeletal imagery, the collaboration is stamped with a working name, UNDEROFFWHITECOVERS, as an unofficial marking of the fusion of brand designers Virgil Abloh and Jun Takahashi. For those into a more subtle statement, a range of black fanny packs are branded with both designer names for a quiet yet fairly obvious flex.

The Off-White x Undercover collection will be available in select Off-White and Undercover stores worldwide and online on September 14.

Louis Vuitton Men's Jewelry

Louis Vuitton Debuts Its Men’s Jewelry

Virgil Abloh debuted his first men’s fashion jewelry collection at Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2019 runway show with an array of chains and ceramic accents that highlight the French savoir-faire. Drawing inspiration from scenes like hip-hop and skate culture, the collection is a natural progression of the label’s newfound street edge that maintains a luxury status. Classic Cuban chain links create the groundwork for pendants, bracelets, and rings. Color-blocked enamel in orange and blue tones adds unique detail to each piece, and palladium finishings with the LV monogram engraving act as a clasp.

Why the Clear Bag is This Year’s Biggest Trend

Bag trends move a little slower than the rest of the fashion world. We’re still in the midst of the fanny-pack trend that launched in 2017 with Louis Vuitton and Supreme. But two years later, a new trend is becoming clear: transparent bags have entered the ring.

A clear bag doubles as a nostalgic ’90s throwback (in case you need any more of those) that also has the potential to make going through airport security a little easier. Bags have always been kinda mysterious — what are people carrying? — so this upends the very nature of the accessory. Louis Vuitton made one of the loudest statements declaring the trend en vogue when it showed a series of holographic and tinted transparent duffle bags in the Spring/Summer 2019 presentation — some are re-selling for over $3k. Off-White and Rimowa collaborated on their own range of transparent suitcases. Maison Margiela released a clear shopping tote earlier this spring, and Celine, Chanel, Hermès, Jil Sander, and Prada have also shown their own versions of the trend.

Why now? With a transparent bag, your whole life’s contents are on display. The pressure to curate the things you carry is higher than before. Personally, I love the idea of buying a $500 bag to show the world that all I travel with is a box of Girl Scout cookies, some $8 pimple cream, and my passport since my driver’s license expired four years ago and it’s the only ID I have left. In the age of transparency, a clear bag shows the world you have nothing to hide, and that in itself is powerful.

Furnish Your “HOME” With Off-White’s Latest

Ahead of a collaboration with IKEA that’s set to launch in November, Off-White has launched another range of home goods. The new “HOME” collection — split into three sections, “CERAMICS,” “BED,” and “BATH” — features an array of household items, including tableware, mugs, embroidered pillowcases, sheet sets, and a throw blanket. While an early look at the designer’s collab with IKEA showcased a rug with a prominent graphic, this range of pieces is a lot more subtle. The ceramic pieces are white and feature subtle branding and a bee motif, with few quotation marks in sight. The loudest piece is a bright orange throw blanket that features the brand’s cross-arrow logo and a small embroidered patch reading “HOME.”

As of now, no official release date for the Off-White “HOME” collection has been set. Check out some more pictures of the pieces above.

Farfetch Just Bought Off-White’s Parent Company

New Guards Group, the Milan-based conglomerate that owns many beloved streetwear brands, including Off-White, Palm Angels, and Heron Preston, has just been purchased by online fashion platform Farfetch for a solid $675 million.

“The addition of New Guards’ brand platform brings a creative and industrial dimension to our suite of capabilities which, combined with our community of more than 650 boutiques, enables us to power and promote both new and existing creative names in the luxury industry to build the brands of the future,” CEO of Farfeth José Neves said in a statement.

With this new acquisition, the company is fully committed to investing in tomorrow’s talent. Additionally, it’s likely that Heron Preston and Off-White will continue to run and operate on their own without interference.

LV’s New Rainbow Sunglasses Are a Summer Dream

Virgil Abloh is making sure we have a technicolor summer with the new Louis Vuitton Rainbow sunglasses. The eyewear is clearly evocative of the designer’s recent rainbow-heavy Spring/Summer ‘19 collection, available in two funky frame styles that add a twist to classic styles.

Some wayfarer-like options are available in black, tan, yellow, and red. The other pairs, aviator style, come in burnt orange and bright blue with transparent accents. Most of the lenses are left simple with all black, but the clear frames offer a more futuristic reflective chrome — remember the LV chrome bag? This might just be phase two.

The Louis Vuitton Rainow Sunglasses are available online now.

Peep Off-White’s New Interactive “Incompiuto Aesthetic” Windows

louis vuitton rugby ball

Louis Vuitton Releases Black Leather Rugby Ball

Ahead of the 2019 Rugby World Cup, Louis Vuitton is paying tribute to the sport the only way it knows how. The designer partnered with Dan Carter, a player for the New Zealand All Blacks, on a super limited-edition monogrammed rugby ball. The ball is made with rich black leather and decorated with the label’s ubiquitous monogram print in grey. Better yet, each one comes with a leather strap so you can wear it like a bag and be ready in case you ever wanna break into a rugby game, as well as a stand to display the piece in your home like sports decor. People love to frame jerseys and trophies and whatnot, so I reckon this is just taking it up a notch.

Only 112 of these designer rugby balls are said to be produced, so I can’t even imagine what the resale prices will be once they’re released in LV stores on September 20.

Louis Vuitton Opens NYC Pop-Up Store

Following the designer’s all-orange residency in Chicago, Louis Vuitton is launching another location in downtown Manhattan. The new temporary space in the Lower East Side continues the monochromatic theme with a 6,000-square-foot neon green interior that houses the label’s Fall/Winter ’19 collection. In addition to the highly coveted menswear staples helmed by Virgil Abloh, the pop-up also carries items exclusive to the store including new Monogram legacy pieces, vintage-inspired patches, additional rainbow/holographic items, and an updated version of the brand’s “Skate” trainer. The location will surely be a paradise for those who genuflect to the vision of Abloh, so unless you wanna try to cop the pieces on Grailed, better head over before the store shutters on the 21.

The Louis Vuitton residency is open now at 100 Rivington Street, NY 10002. Check out pictures of the space in the gallery above.
