Krewe Premieres Optical Line for Spring 2017

Krewe OpticalImage: Krewe.

A quick scroll through Krewe‘s online celebrity profile immediately displays glitzy names like Zayn Malik, Michiel Huisman, Beyoncé, and Adriana Lima—a who’s-who of this caliber all the more impressive seeing the bespectacled brand’s four years of operation and raising it one late-20s, wide-eyed creative director. It would appear, however, that the sunny beaches of the west coast elite are only the tip of the iceberg as the brand launches its very first optical line. Releasing spring 2017, the collection picks up where those daring sunnies left off, utilizing titanium, stainless steel, and acetate to accentuate plating colors that can both supplement and pull focus in any wardrobe, from the high-brow to the accessible. A distinct New Orleans influence—fallout radiating from founder Stirling Barrett’s native hometown—eschews the ordinary to craft pieces that embolden and draw the eye. Of course, as with any accessory, it’s not solely up to the item itself. As seen in Barrett’s simple brand messaging, the most important ingredient in looking like a Hollywood hotshot is to just “do you.”

In His Own Words: PT Pantaloni Torino CEO Edoardo Fassino’s Quest for the Perfect Pant

Image: PT Pantaloni Torino.

A force of fashion nature, PT Pantaloni Torino’s simple biography — “We create trousers, and we were born in Turin” — is a touch misleading when examining the gravity of the Italian brand’s daunting menswear mission. Edoardo Fassino, both stern CEO and passionate creative director, discusses his once nigh-impossible, yet now imminently likely, dream of the elusive “perfect pant.”

Image: PT Pantaloni Torino.

Q: How does PT Pantaloni Torino distinguish its “perfect pant” from the pack currently saturating the market?

We try to create a product that can be unique in its own market segment. Since we only make trousers we can be very focused on the product and pay careful attention to all details, giving us the chance to keep experimenting with fabrics and fits. You can tell if a pant is well made by turning it inside out, so it’s this passion for the perfect construction.

John Varvatos Spring/Summer 2017 Campaign

Bearing the same chilling tag as the brand’s previous campaign, John Varvatos‘ Spring/Summer 2017 effort showcases LA-based R&B band Vintage Trouble for decidedly on-beat, and equally high-energy, prints. Lensed by Danny Clinch and featuring the hallowed Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, the images capture the pulsating, wild intensity music inspires, the campaign a passionate affair between the brand’s lightweight style choices and the dramatic depth of live performance.

NYFW: Backstage Public School Autumn/Winter 2017

A rich hometown heritage sprinkled with a light touch of political savvy, Public School had no qualms in over- and under-exposing the body for Autumn/Winter 2017. Cutting free constricted looks while doubling up on layers, the line was a balanced and masculine progression.

Dazzling jewel tones gave way to a displaced Autumn/Winter 2017 collection from Telfar, who chose to dismantle popular opinion for an antithetic deconstruction of trends. Exposed stitching, boxy versus fitted silhouettes, and merged textiles paved the way for a line that stood firm in its defiance.

In Celebration of Canada’s Big Birthday, Fairmont Hotels Does It Even Bigger

_DSC9175-2 Image: Dan Kelleghan.

On the occasion of an anniversary, there are precepts in order. China, for instance, is typical on year 20, while ruby reigns supreme two decades later. Larger milestones—certainly more opulent—are also slightly more vague in their interpretation. For its home country’s own 150th, luxury hotelier Fairmont chose to ring the alarm with a bang, beginning first with a cross-country dinner series at several of its Canadian properties throughout 2017.

An ode to history, the cultural series kicked off earlier this month at the Fairmont Le Château Montebello, a brilliant, resort-sized lodge that carries the modest charm its name implies, with 19th-century cuisine inspired by pioneer Louis-Joseph Papineau. The dishes—four courses of country vegetables pleasantly glazed and pork and poultry, roasted gently and braised in beer–were metaphors of the Papineau family’s belief that food was the best way to bring people together.

Titled Heritage Dinner, the evening overlapped the hotel’s just-launched, limited edition package Après in the Air, a special partnership with Air Canada in which groups are chartered—via hyper-luxe, private planes—to three iconic Fairmont resorts, including including Fairmont Château Laurier, Le Château Montebello, and Fairmont Tremblant, the latter, a colorful ski chalet perfectly positioned on top of the mountain its named after. While Après in the Air will run consecutively until the end of the year, only seven more Heritage Dinners will take place, each as unique as the stories they tell.

Calvin Klein Releases Creative Director Raf Simons’ Debut Campaign

Calvin Klein x Raf Simons
Image: Calvin Klein.

Stoking the flame of his anticipated debut as the new creative director of Calvin Klein, Raf Simons presents the brand’s latest campaign. Shot by Willy Vanderperre, the campaign eschews the erotic qualities of previous Calvin Klein campaigns, replacing sex appeal with contemporary art. Models pose in the legendary briefs and jeans—re-imagined with Simons’ new design of the Calvin Klein logo—before artwork by Andy Warhol, Richard Prince, and Sterling Ruby. The series is classic Simons, who’s known for his affinity to art, as seen in the Spring/Summer 2017 Campaign for his eponymous label, which paid tribute to photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. By framing the clothing with the artwork Simons invites the range into the canvases, and Calvin Klein’s timeless designs take on a Warholian quality as staples in American culture and art.

Fred Perry x George Cox Announce Joint Spring/Summer 2017 Line

Fred Perry x George CoxImage: Fred Perry x George Cox.

Dipping their toes into the ever-changing ocean of youth culture, Fred Perry and George Cox—the British shoe savant—release a Spring/Summer 2017 line that offers a simple re-design for dramatic results. Building off the creeper style popularized by the Northampton brand in 1949, the pair release two new kicks that stamp out tradition through a unisex construction. The tennis creeper, a hybrid piece featuring unique side stitching and a suede texture in dual colors, is a ready-for-anything shoe that is comfortable both traipsing around the sordid London nightlife and attending buttoned-up country club socials—a pebbled-leather third option a more mature selection. Its partner, a tasseled loafer revamped with full-grain leather and a laurel wreath pull tab, is an elevated offering, showcasing a darker and refined mentality. Its classic black/brown color palette is a testament to both an “if it’s not broken don’t fix it” mentality and a desire to retain a recognizable Fred Perry identity. Together the release is a simple push into the youthful firmament that packs a stylized punch.
