Stoking the flame of his anticipated debut as the new creative director of Calvin Klein, Raf Simons presents the brand’s latest campaign. Shot by Willy Vanderperre, the campaign eschews the erotic qualities of previous Calvin Klein campaigns, replacing sex appeal with contemporary art. Models pose in the legendary briefs and jeans—re-imagined with Simons’ new design of the Calvin Klein logo—before artwork by Andy Warhol, Richard Prince, and Sterling Ruby. The series is classic Simons, who’s known for his affinity to art, as seen in the Spring/Summer 2017 Campaign for his eponymous label, which paid tribute to photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. By framing the clothing with the artwork Simons invites the range into the canvases, and Calvin Klein’s timeless designs take on a Warholian quality as staples in American culture and art.
