So check out our list below, and the next time you’re out on a date (or just at the bar with your buddies), you will know that even if they don’t notice your wallet, at least it impresses you.

Worst Behavior: Drake’s Most-Successful and Awful Styles

c79f26b6f377a46411167c0dba878a07

When Drake‘s first mix tape dropped in 2009 I remember first asking “what exactly is a mixtape?” and then immediately scoffing at the idea of Aubrey Drake Graham—known exclusively to me, juniors in Canada, and my like two *really cool* friends in Texas then as Jimmy from Degrassi—being a curse word using, below-the-knee tee wearing, two leg standing (!) rapper. My reaction was slightly similar to how you might feel if you found out your chubby sister wanted to be a model (..yeah, good luck with that Jane!…). Five years later, two names less, and three releases more Drake is kind of a big deal. Like a Rihanna charming (excuse me, he calls her Robyn), SNL hosting, Alicia Key’s song writing big deal. So I guess he won that one! Luckily, despite the musician’s wide success in hip-hop and acting, his wardrobe choices haven’t always been as upward-moving.

DJ drop that mix tape below (that’s what that means, right?):

  • DrakeiHeartCREEPY: Look Aubrey, it doesn't matter how many lunches you grab with fellow television actor, rapper, and Justin Beiber friend Will Smith—boy that seems like a WEIRD group to run into on the street—it's still pretty freaking creepy to screen print an image of Smith's second son, Jaden, on a long-sleeve tee. Even/especially if the tee is your from your own fashion label

  • DrakeRollingStoneNO MORE DRAMA: There is already far too much crazy to sort through in Drake's interview in Rolling Stone's February 2014 issue that whatever this grape-slushie-colored-embroidered-velvet-thing that crawled onto the rapper for a corresponding photoshoot is, it is MORE than not needed. Those eggs tho.

  • DrakeCalvinKleinYOLO: You only live once, and it seems Drake is spending most of it in Calvin Kleins. The former Degrassi star already rocked custom Calvin Klein Collection outfits designed by Italo Zucchini for his North American tour last year (like this sky graphic tank to the right), and has a whole new set of fly Klein outfits for his current European "Would You like a Tour?" series, currently underway.

  • DrakeTaoJUST NO: Even if Steven Tyler was a silk-paisley-blue-wearing, prostitute-slapping pimp he would still not dress like this. Why does this exist and what table cloth factory did his hopefully ex-stylist steal this from?

  • DrakeGrammys13TAKE A SHOT OF HIM: As much as I can get behind a good sport/Kenzo look—and you know Drizzy loves to ball—I can also appreciate a really tight, smart tux, like this clean and contrasting navy and black Saint Laurent number the rapper showed up in at the 2013 Grammy's, proving that hip-hop can get haughty too. Not to be type-casted though, a few weeks after the award ceremony Drake returned to the Parisian brand for the NBA All Star Game for a more...comfortable outfit.

  • DrakeRedSTARTED FROM THE BOTTOM WITH REALLY BAD BOTTOM: I can't be positive, but I believe this photo was taken during the rapper's 'before he made it years,' when the now-Rihanna-embracing star was strapped for cash and relied heavily on participating in scientific studies to make end's meat. This image is thought to be data from a test to see if humans could physically wear patent leather red pants in public without literally combusting in flames. While the results proved that it was clearly possible, I cannot deny if the experiment was actually a success. No, actually I can. Don't do this.

  • DrakeBartSUBTLE NOSTALGIA: Sure the color scheme is a little Michael Jackson, and the idea is a little banjee hood, but there's something so hilariously not ironic of the subtle white Bart Simpson stencil on this oversized button down. Nor am I complaining about the black denim on black timbs look.

  • DrakeGQSTOCK PHOTOGRAPHY: Certainly not his most street-wise look, GQ styled the rapper as a modern day Miami real estate salesman for their July 2013 issue. The look—complete with a mall bought metallic two-pocket shirt, white pressed chinos, and blinding-gold matching jewelry—was terrifying..and that's before you even hear about his commission rates!

  • DrakeNickiNO NEW FRIENDS: D is REALLY trying to make this animal print thing work, but some things are better left to the girls. Cheetah prints, however, aren't one of them, so everyone just STFU, buy some solids, and move on

  • DrakeParisALL OF IT: White Hood by Air on white denim on white Air Jordan Retro 1's with an oversized envelope of a khaki jacket makes for a chic outfit and a dangerous game of 'what not to drink and inevitably spill on these ungodly expensive clothes.'

76 Reasons Dover Street Market NY is Going to be Awesome

dsmnyThere’s not much that can be said about Dover Street Market—or its founder, the reclusive Rei Kawakubo—that hasn’t already been tried to be pulled out like teeth by the sartorial elite. We could count the number of veiled interviews this year alone with our fingers—if we weren’t already rushing to flip through the rare pages—in which Kawakubo allowed for public comment. There was one with Suzy Munkes, a conversation with Style.com Matthew Schneier, a few brief words for System Magazine‘s second issue, and, for the most part, that was it. Bottom line is, she’s very mysterious.

Now, Kawakubo’s New York edition of Dover Street Market, a seven-story, 18,00 square foot store, opens tomorrow (Saturday, December 21) in perhaps one of Manhattan’s least-posh neighborhoods: Murray Hill (the irony!). There is talk of a Louis Vuitton pop-up shop on the first floor, a Parisian-inspired Rose Bakery on the mezzanine (similar to the store’s counterparts in Tokyo and London), and even a DSM x Prada exclusive collection. All of this, though, is just speculation. What we do know is that the store’s epic stock-list has everything from A.P.C. denim for the everyday to Paco Rabanne couture. See the list of the first 76-known brands that the store will carry below (we’re sure they’ll be more), and we’ll be sure to catch you at the opening.

À-la-Mexique Knocks Off Fashion’s Most Famous Names for a Cause

3a

We do not generally gravitate towards the streetwear trend of fashion wordplay made famous by designer Brian Lichtenberg—we’re team Slimane, thank you very much!—but when it comes helping a good cause, we’re all ears. Enter À-la-Mexique, a collaboration between NYC-based publicist Gabriel Rivera-Barraza and Simon Guindi Cohen of the brand SPƎNGLISH. The limited edition capsule collection translates four iconic symbols of fashion (Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Alexander McQueen) into a modern context in an attempt to raise awareness for the need for peace in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico—a city deemed “the most violent zone in the world outside of declared war zones” in 2009 by The Houston Chronicle—as well as to materialize the colorful sense of humor of Latin America. Even further, 10% of all sales of the premium cotton tees will be donated to Project Paz, a non-profit organization committed to changing the state of the city. Who said fashion doesn’t save lives?

À-la-Mexique Tees are $50 each and available for purchase now at Spenglish.net.

Saint Laurent Opens First Men’s Store in Punk Rock Haven, San Francisco

Interior SF

San Francisco, with its blood-surging punk rock scene, late-night glitter-filled drag queen circuit, and thrift stores aplenty, is not the first place that comes to mind when we think of luxury fashion. But perhaps in the context of Saint Laurent Paris’s two-year brand revamp, through the outspokenly-grunge brushstrokes of Creative Director Hedi Slimane, it is actually the perfect setting for the brand’s newest outpost.

Already home to Christopher Owens and the birthplace of Courtney Love (both, stars of Slimane’s Saint Laurent Music Project), the City by the Bay welcomed the opening of its first Saint Laurent store this past weekend. Even better, this present came just for the boys.

Offering men’s ready-to-wear and a full range of men’s accessories (like our favorites Classic Wyatt Harness Boot In Black Leather, and Classic Hunter Backpack in Navy Blue), the newly opened boutique is the best place to go on the West Coast to get the “tough” look, without having to actually get messy.

Saint Laurent SS’14 Collection

Saint Laurent’s Spring 2014 collection glitters and glistens as its models walk down the runway. The lineup makes heavy use of reflective material, from the shiny leather in the pants and jackets to the glinting metal on the lapels of suits. The proportions are skinny, almost painfully so, and black is the most dominant color, though lighter hues do make appearances in washed out jeans and sport coats with brilliant rainbow prints. The whole collection takes on a very rock and roll vibe, the clothes and the setting and the styling of the models evoking the sharp and glamorous times of music in the 60’s and 70’s. The 1950’s get their due also, in the ‘greaser’ elements that appear strongly on the collection’s back end.

First Arrivals: Saint Laurent First Collection now at MR PORTER

Saint Laurent Mr Porter Hedi Slimane sale discount shopping purchase Spring 2013

Say…you woke up this morning with the unnerving itch to purchase something shiny, slim cut and brand new. (also, polka dots, to go back to bed, drink coffee and not go to work?) Oh, wait…that’s every morning, isn’t it? Well, today…that might be a little different. That whole “Saint Laurent” thing, which made its first appearance during the Spring 2013 shows is happening…for purchase… as of today over at MR PORTER! Under the creative direction of Hedi Slimane there’s some sharp tailoring, polka dots and few basic-y  things (like a black sweater with just a zipper around the neck) to keep the label’s refined-minded rockin’ & rollin’ man feeling happy. Also of note? The website’s picked up Belgian designer Ann Demeulemeester. Here’s to a designer Tuesday!
