Louis Vuitton’s 2054 Capsule Launches in SoHo Pop-up

For its latest capsule, Louis Vuitton looks to the future with its 2054 collection. The latest line from Virgil Abloh, the new 14-piece range uses technical fabrics to chronicle the French designer’s 200-year history. (Louis Vuitton was founded in 1854.) The military-inspired performancewear pieces, including parkas, sweat pants, sweatshirts, and sneakers, are highly functional — a pair of cargo pants is equipped with multiple removable pockets — and kept simple with a monochrome color palette. The designer’s signature travel pieces, including cross-body bags and duffles among others, are contrasted with technicolor prints inspired by heat maps and holographic details, which seems to be a signature for Abloh’s take on Vuitton.

The 2054 collection is available in a newly erected Louis Vuitton pop-up shop in SoHo. The exterior of the space is covered with a camouflage rainbow Monogram pattern that invites guests to explore the collection and imagine the future of the historic French label.

The Louis Vuitton 2054 pop-up is open now at 122 Greene Street, NY 10012.

Rihanna to Launch Fashion Collection

It’s only been around 2 weeks since it was revealed that full-time beauty magnate and part-time pop legend Rihanna would launch a clothing line with LVMH. This is a big deal because A) this makes the Barbadian songstress the first Black woman to create a brand under the luxury conglomerate, and B) everything she touches turns to gold (see Fenty Beauty and any of her 8 albums). And after a beautiful cover feature in T Magazine, it seems that fans won’t have to wait much longer for the clothing debut.

In the interview conducted by rising playwright Jeremy O. Harris, Rihanna announced that her genderless line will not hold traditional runway shows, but instead will release collections throughout the year. The first collection is set to be released on May 25 in Paris, with an international launch on her website set for May 29. Some of the looks featured in the story include oversize suits, boxy shirts, and structured denim pieces all in solid neutral and pastel prints — basically, items that can be dressed up for maximum impact or worn casually. She also released that she’s definitely working on her reggae album — her first album since 2016’s beloved Anti — but one thing at a time.

Check out the teaser campaign for Fenty below.

Dior’s Spacey Pop-Ups Invade the US

As part of the Pre-Fall ’19 men’s collection rollout, Dior is setting up temporary pop-up stores across the US with the first opening in Washington DC. The minimalist metal capsules encase the whole Dior experience with an array of ready-to-wear and accessories. From the outside, the mini-store resembles a futuristic spaceship accompanied by a 5-meter sculpture replica of a feminine robot-figure designed by Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama, which was also seen during the runway presentation in Japan last fall.

The CityCenter D.C. pop-up is open from April 30th to May 6th with further stops in California and Toronto.

Dior Opens SS19 Pop-Up in Sunny LA

Dior has launched its Summer ’19 collection with a pop-up shop in Maxfield. The temporary store features the label’s latest capsule and features exclusive installations by American artist KAWS (whose reimagined Dior logo and bee were featured in the SS19 campaign).

The pop up runs through December 26th, prominently featuring an 8-ft tall structure of a bee. Inside, the interior of the space is dominated by black scaffolding inspired by the Summer 2019 runway set design. And to top it all off, the store also features a limited edition Oblique BMX bike.

The store has an assortment of Dior x KAWS ready-to-wear apparel and accessories on sale, as well as unique denim pieces, designed using a special craft of Japanese Boro (for that little spice of “couture”). But perhaps some of the most notable items featured are the various accessories from the Dior Oblique line, such as the iconic Saddle Bag, across bags and sneakers, reinterpreted for men by Kim Jones. Check out some images (shot by Paul Vu) below.

Founder Ben Gorham Talks About Byredo’s Eleventh Hour Pop-Up

And then it was October, and with its strong winds of change it blew one last scent. For Byredo it’s Eleventh Hour — “the last perfume on Earth.” However, founder Ben Gorham promises that the intent is hopeful and absolutely not the last, especially for a brand that has produced a candle dubbed Apocalyptic.

Eleventh Hour

The house focused on geography and started off with raw materials. Complementing the same idea, Byredo is hosting a three-month long pop-up camp store in Paris’ Marais neighborhood at 11 rue Debelleyme (yes eleven, again.) “My theory is that historically when people are tired of socio-economic climates and politics nature is that refuge for many,” Gorham says, an outdoors-fan himself. “The last few years, even from a global perspective, there is a lot of division and a lot of questions about direction, and I think a lot of people are disappointed and nature becomes great therapy for that; an escape essentially.”

Fig and tonka bean scents evoke a human warmth and natural harmony that bring us back to the roots with Eleventh Hour. The theme of the pop-up stems from a Swedish forest camping ground with all the glam accessories.  “It’s like a very modern, polished version of a camping store. It’s almost ridiculous in its execution because it’s so pristine, but plays a little bit with creating a backdrop that people living in cities can relate to,” says Gorham. In recent years, a turnaround interest in nature has seen a trend through beauty and fragrance products. Gorham’s pop-up takes it to new level — technical equipment, cutlery sets, survival knives, and muck boots neighbor delicate candles and perfumes on Byredo’s space.

Starting next month, the chef of Paris’ cool-kids’ healthy eats hangout Wild & the Moon will also develop an exclusive selection of infused water, granolas, and freeze-dried products in two special menus. For Gorham this is the first time working with food, though not unfamiliar in his scents as many are quite personal. Also launching in November, the Chai Candle evokes the smell and taste of Gorham’s grandmothers chai tea.

Looking forward, Gorham definitely sees similar pop-ups happening in other locations. “I like this format. It’s not always financially viable, but I like elaborating on an idea in this scale,” he says.

The Eleventh Hour pop-up in Paris is open through December with the scent available at distinct locations and at Byredo.com
