5 Products to De-Puff Your Eyes for Good

eye

Puffiness really is the bane of my existence. If I don’t sleep enough, I look puffy, and if I sleep for too long, I look puffy. No matter how dedicated I am to caring for my skin, I still have bags under my eyes that look like they could carry women and children off the Titanic. However, there is hope in the battle against looking tired all the time — here’s a list of 5 products that can help fight puffiness. Good luck.

Verso-super-eye-serum-1, $80

This eye serum is rich in retinol, so in addition to helping with puffiness, it stimulates the production of new skin cells. Wear it at night to help stop eye bags in their tracks and because retinol can make you more susceptible to sun burn. I know this stuff works because my skin tingles when I apply it, so while it skews on the more expensive side, it’s definitely worth the investment.

Kiehl’s Eye Fuel, $22.50

If I could live my life on Kiehl’s products exclusively, I would. Their latest eye fuel is great for on-the-go application thanks to its compact size. It’s rich with caffeine and Vitamin C which fight puffiness and energize the skin. I keep a tube in my office when I’m in a rush and need to look alert on short notice.

Lab Series Age Rescue Eye Therapy, $43

This mighty formula helps combat baggy eyes while rejuvenating the skin for a more youthful appearance. Green tea and cucumber extracts hydrate the skin and help boost collagen production while fighting early signs of aging.

Malin+Goetz Revitalizing Eye Gel, $42

This lightweight gel is made with rice and soy protein which brighten the under eye skin while fighting puffiness. It absorbs quickly into the skin and can be easily applied before any moisturizer — just make sure you’re using an SPF moisturizer.

Hot and Cold Therapy Gel Bead Facial Eye Mask by FOMI Care, $16

While products are nice, sometimes you just gotta throw caution to the wind and strap on an ice-mask to deflate your face. Although you may look like a serial killer for the 10-12 minutes of wearing it, your face will thank you. It’s also good for headache relief and hangovers.

8. Moisturize

By now you should be wearing some type of sunscreen every day. Even in the winter. The sun is so powerful that any prolonged exposure against your skin can have you looking 50 when you’re 30 — plan ahead. In terms of skincare, if there is one thing you should do daily, it’s moisturize. Kiehl’s Facial Fuel  SPF 15 ($42) that has a soft matte finish that isn’t too thick, while LAB Series BB Tinted Moisturizer ($44) evens out skin tone — in case your nose is looking a little red — while protecting you from harmful UV rays with SPF 35.

The hotly anticipated Nordstrom men’s store opens today near Columbus Circle. Spanning three floors, the expansive shop is a one-stop destination for the modern man’s every sartorial need.

The retailer carries luxury brands including Balenciaga, Calvin Klein, and Comme des Garçons, while offering exclusive product collaborations — upcoming ones include a Nike and Cole Haan. In the denim section, located on the ground floor, customers can purchase customized Levi’s jeans, opting to embellish their trousers with patches and other decorations. The basement houses a diverse shoe display, including a site-specific Christian Louboutin section (one of the few in the country) as well as popular sneaker selections from Vans, Converse, and Adidas. Business, fitness, party — footwear is covered.

The first floor also features a grooming station, stocked with carefully curated selection of products. Cult favorites like Kiehl’s and Jack Black, as well as smaller niche brands — the shop is currently the only site for Murdock London, a luxury grooming brand based in the UK. Planned on-site promotions include professional shaves and consultations, while travel-sized options are placed close to go for guys on the go. In another nearby nook, aesthetically-savvy tech is displayed — mainly speakers, headphones and other tablet accessories. Clearly this store aims to meet a flurry of lifestyle needs beyond fashion.

Other amenities the shop boasts include a coffeeshop with a liquor license — customers can purchase alcoholic beverages whilst perusing the racks, happy shopping!! — and same-day delivery open 24/7. Customers can literally buy items while half-asleep and send someone to pick them up in the middle of the night. The future is impulse buying is here. Good move, @Nordstrom.

Kiehl’s Really Does Give You the Best Shave

kiehls-since-1851-close-shavers-squadron-tm-ultimate-brushless-shave-cream-5-oz-150-ml

Since puberty struck me a good 10 years ago, I’ve struggled with achieving the elusive ‘perfect shave.’ A combination of coarse beard hair (and lots of it), a shaky hand, and general lack of patience have rendered my face and neck a bloodbath after nearly every shave. I get so many cuts and ingrown hairs that I think I have chicken pox. I’ve never had chicken pox. Not to sound like a white person in an infomercial, but nothing ever worked!

That is until I heard about Kiehl’s Close Shavers Squadron, AKA Ultimate Brushless Shave Cream. Part of what makes this cream different is that it uses menthol and camphor, which give the face a cooling sensation and prevents inflation. Additionally, sesame oil allows the product to be easily absorbed into the skin while softening its texture — all ingredients for a perfect close shave. The best part is that the cream doesn’t feel heavy at all once applied, and I find myself worrying if I’m using too little (I’m not). When finished, instead of my skin feeling raw and dry as I’ve come to expect, my face feels refreshingly hydrated, with no signs of visible bleeding. Some reviews say that this cream clogs their razor blades but I think they’re just being dramatic since I didn’t struggle with that — see for yourself!

The New Brands Making Grooming Mainstream

himsImage: Hims.

A friend recently asked me if there was a grooming equivalent for Glossier. You know, the democratic social media driven beauty brand that has practically exploded since its launch only 3 years ago. The byproduct of the beauty blog Into the Gloss, started by former Vogue writer and The Hills star Emily Weiss, the amount of genuine hype the brand gets is astounding — just check the comments on any of their social platforms. It truly is a social-first beauty brand. And yet I told my friend that I haven’t heard of a men’s grooming equivalent. Yet.

There are a number of new men’s brands that all aim to simplify skincare for guys. I’ve seen more Bulldog Face Washes, Milk Makeup Matcha Cleansers, and Kiehl’s SPF moisturizers in men’s apartments recently. Cult surfer menswear brand Saturdays NYC released its own line of grooming products.  Aesthetically, new skincare/lifestyle brand Hims is the closest to a ‘Glossier for dudes as can be, as noted by Racked author Cheryl Wischhover. It’s obvious that men are getting into the skincare game, but it still seems to be a bit of a DL matter.

I’ve noticed tons of dudes talk about fashion and streetwear. There’s a whole culture that goes with it. Just look at the line for any major skate brand store. But will there be a brand that takes the grooming movement mainstream? And in a better way than the Metrosexual fad of the early ’00s, which did not age well. Boy beauty site Very Good Light does a good job at illuminating rising influencers and brands in this space, in a way that’s more intersectional than traditional outlets. It’s clear that more points of view are needed to gain momentum — only then can a potential Glossier-for-dudes triumph.

Kiehl’s Launches Collaborative Holiday Charity Collection

Kiehl'sImage: Kiehl’s.

Kiehl’s’ eighth annual holiday collection follows in the footsteps of the brand’s charitable history–past partnerships have included charities such as RxArt, the Koons Family Institute–by teaming again with Feeding America, whom the skincare savant partnered with for its 2014 holiday collection. FAILE, the duo comprised of Brooklyn-based artists Patrick McNeil and Patrick Miller, whose variety of paintings, prints, drawings, and installations have shown in museums and galleries worldwide, lend its graphic iconography to the project: Geometric black and gold imagery jazzes up the packaging on Kiehl’s steadfast favorites, including crème de corps, ultra facial cream, and the daily reviving concentrate. Aptly dubbed Baby Give Back, the limited edition compendium will provide up to 1.1 million meals for hungry families, supporting the charity’s mission to tackle hunger across the country. Two different gift sets are available and a canvas tote, adorned with the FAILE logo, is also included amongst the self-care products.

Kiehl’s Baby Give Back compendium is available online now.

Kiehl’s Premieres Dehydration Analyzer Tool to Determine Skin Health

Kiehl'sDehydrationAnalyzerImage: Kiehl’s.

Unsure of your skin’s health? It feels dry, maybe you’re not moisturizing enough or—deceiving and even worse—too much? With the whipping winds of the season still gaining momentum, especially felt this week on the East Coast, it can be hard to tell. Fortunately the cat and mouse game of regiment estimation ends today with the Dehydration Analyzer Tool (DAT) by Kiehl’s. A new form of skin care technology, DAT officially launches at the brand’s retail stores and select department-store counters to help you analyze your skin and determine its hydration. Conducted by trained Kiehl’s professionals, the tool employs bio-electric impedance technology to send an undetectable current through the surface layers of the skin and measure the water level of the ectodermal tissue. A complimentary service offered to every Kiehl’s customer, the DAT reading is paired with the brand’s Skin Barrier Resting Tabs to confirm skin type, health, and treatment options.

The Dehydration Analyzer Tool is now available at Kiehl’s retail stores and select department-store counters.
