Toronto Gets its First Stone Island Store

Expanding its presence in North America, the Italian contemporary label Stone Island has opened its first store in Canada, choosing Toronto’s Yorkville Avenue as the site of its regional debut. Spanning two floors, the new flagship will also act as an exhibition space to showcase the brand’s Stone Island and Shadow Project collections. German designer Marc Buhre handled the store’s interior, furnishing the open interior space with bush-hammered stone flooring that’s contrasted with an industrial contrast with metallic mesh against a steel substructure. A neutral and monochrome color palette further establishes an urban aesthetic that complements the designer’s range of premium outerwear and other layer-able apparel.

Stone Island is open now at 104 Yorkville Ave, Toronto, ON M5R 1B9.

Mr. Porter Launches Exclusive Capsule with Stone Island

Following an exclusive collection with Tom Ford, Mr. Porter has dropped another limited-edition range, this time with Stone Island. The collection of nine pieces showcases some of the designer’s latest technical innovations, including a new David-TC material. The fabric is a lightweight Japanese textile that’s been dyed for softness and then heat-compressed to create a water-resistant protective coat, which is practical for the line of outerwear and assorted ready-to-wear pieces.

The collection of jackets, sweaters, and trousers are anchored by a somewhat Neapolitan color palette — chunky knit sweaters are available in light pink, cream, and charcoal in solid and color-blocked options. Cargo trousers are available in light and dark options, while outerwear is predominantly pink to add some softness to the season.

The Mr. Porter x Stone Island capsule collection is available online now.

Kinfolk x Stone Island Partner for Brooklyn Pop-Up Shop

Kinfolk x Stone IslandImage: Kinfolk x Stone Island.

Kinfolk, the Brooklyn-based inspiration hub, pairs its contemporary sales position with Stone Island‘s lab-derived textiles in a new pop-up shop that reinvents retail for today’s shopper. Displaying the outerwear brand’s latest Marina line, a nautical retelling of classic wardrobing that is both Hamptons-ready and yacht approved, the immersive shopping experience is anything but run-of-the-mill. “From the beginning we have tried to introduce brands to New York that we love but don’t have a large presence in the States,” says Kinfolk Managing Director Keith Abrams, referencing Stone Island’s Italian heritage. “While [the brand] has a long, rich history it’s still relatively new to most people.”

Aiming to broaden the scope of its parameters, the smooth sailing collection is joined by the design headquarters’ own High Life, Low Life line, a distinct release that bridges modern purity with vintage Playboy style. “Both collections include elements reminiscent of the past,” says Abrams. “But with simple branding they continue to keep an eye toward the future.” This past-meets-present theory, one that runs through the aesthetic veins of both brands, is a sharp cut divide between the known and the new. It is due to this amorphous progression that the shop is able to take the outerwear brand’s international inspiration and distill it into a more digestible American attraction. “The store has always been about discovery,” says Abrams. “The Marina collection created a perfect opportunity to highlight something new from Stone Island while staying true to our mission.” Utilizing Kinfolk’s clout to shed light on the up-and-coming brand’s emerging voice and technological prowess, the partnership, and its dual collection release, acts as a bold initial step for Stone Island’s grand leap into the international consciousness.

The Kinfolk x Stone Island pop-up shop is located at 94 Wythe Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11249 and is open now.

Stone Island Opens NYC Flagship

Stone-Island-New-York_5_Interior_180Image: Stone Island.

Stone Island’s newest American flagship is now open in New York City’s SoHo. The Italian sportswear brand moved into a classic building on Greene St., a 3,500-square-foot space renovated to fit a contemporary shopping experience while still retaining its downtown charm. Marc Buhre of the architecture firm Zeichenweg TM followed Stone Island’s philosophy of utilizing revolutionary materials, furnishing the site in dibond, carbon fiber, and fiberglass, and pairing original columns next to industrial clothing wracks and green glass walls. The space also features a Hub presentation space, in which it will showcase exclusive products and installations. The New York store comes quickly on the heels of the brand’s Los Angeles flagship opening, becoming the 20th in a series of European and Asian locations.

Stone Island is located at 41 Greene St. New York, NY 10013.

NikeLab x Stone Island Redo the Windrunner

A staple since the late ’70s, Nike celebrates the Windrunner jacket with two NikeLab partnerships—Stone Island for men and Sacai‘s Chitose Abe for women—both of which re-imagine the fan favorite with an inventive use of new materials, shapes, and colors. Widely recognized for its high-tech fabrics, surface treatments, and production techniques, the former brings dyeing and technical innovations (wind and water resistant mussola gommata and nylon metal fabrics) to the outerwear item. The exterior of the NikeLab x Stone Island is monochromatic with a subtle texture difference and an added silver PrimaLoft lining that provides a stunning contrast.

The collaborative jacket will be available at select NikeLab retailers and Stone Island stores starting December 17, 2015.

Video: Stone Island.

Stone Island, the sportswear brand that has been researching and experimenting with textiles since 1982, has just dropped a video teaser featuring its latest hooded jacket. The Hyper Light Membrana TC is a packable garment with two-layer performance fabric made from a nylon weighing only 22 grams per meter squared. The fabric has also been laminated to a breathable, water and wind resistant membrane and the brand’s innovative dying technique has given the jacket an eye-popping color as well as an added special agent to the dye formula that makes the garment anti-drop. Other features include an elastic at the cuffs, a drawstring bottom hem and diagonal pockets with a hidden zip fastening to make sure everything on your person stays intact. This new jacket is showcased in all its glory in an intense video highlighting the garment’s lightness and the way the flexible fabric moves to a pulsing bass beat. Styled with gray jeans and sneakers, the membrana certainly stands out with its modern bold color options.

The Hyper Light Membrana is now available online.

Stone Island Launches FW14 Campaign for the Inner Adventurer

Stone Island_4

Image: Stone Island.

Following in the legacy of late visionary Massimo Ost, Italian brand Stone Island gears up for Winter with a new campaign and video featuring the robust outerwear that the brand has made famous. Within the upcoming release, high-collared jackets button and zip to the top, ensuring optimal warmth in the Arctic tundra (or during your morning commute). Other pieces feature tortoise shell patterns, giving a streetwear vibe to the sturdy garments. Fur collars adorn some, contributing a luxurious accent to the militaristic jackets. Established in 1982, Stone Island often employs sports and workwear influences, and the brand’s Fall/Winter 2014-2015 collection carries these motifs to new elevations, literally. It’s never too early to start looking for that perfect winter coat, but fortunately you don’t have to climb mountain to don one of these.

    BROGUE AGENT - BERLUTI

Berluti makes some of the finest shoes in the world. Unlike the other great shoemakers, however, they are bold and frequent experimenters, constantly striving to combine their timeless craft with the latest stylistic innovations. Case in point: this loafer, with its burnished upper gleaming in beautiful turquoise. The broguing punched into the toe further relaxes the shoe, making it a perfect casual statement to pair with white jeans and a colorful sweater. Not everyone would be comfortable making such a statement, but for those with taste and daring, your moment has arrived.

KRINK IN THE ARMOR - COACH

What is Krink? Maybe you haven’t been outside in a while. Created by New York street artist Craig Costello, a.k.a. KR, Krink produces a special permanent ink designed to drip and run over walls, streets, and canvases, creating a seemingly spontaneous burst of color. Coach has taken notice, and this month debuts their collaborative project. The brand worked hard to perfectly replicate KR’s bright colors and signature drippy aesthetic, using a silk-screen process that captures all the vibrancy of the original works. There are bags, wallets, portfolios, and luggage tags, all ready to help you stand out in a crowd.

    WILD SIDE - EMPORIO ARMANI

Briefcases are meant to be solid. They are meant to be respectable. They are meant to unobtrusively carry your most important documents from one location to the next. But of course we all know they can be so much more. Emporio Armani has been setting the pace of high-end men’s fashion for a long time, so naturally they would come out with an irreverently printed briefcase like this. What’s the pattern? Tortoise shell? Leopard spot? It seems to be a blend of both. Walk into the office with this and you’ll assert your animal magnetism.

SLIPPERY WHEN WET - JEAN PAUL GAUTIER

Jean Paul Gaultier has made his mark as a maestro of cutting edge style, a reputation that has long extended to men’s fragrances. Eighteen years ago, he introduced Le Male, a potent cologne resplendent with overt sensuality. Just in time for spring, Gaultier unleashes a variation on his classic theme with Le Beau Male. Perfumer Francis Kurkdjian, creator of the fragrance, wanted to evoke the theme of “condensation,” and his work does not disappoint. The oriental themes of Le Male are toned down considerably, and in their place arises a cool, erotic mint sensation that sends shivers down the spine.

    FAST TIMES - IWC

Swiss watchmaking giant IWC knows a thing or two about precise engineering and the judicious use of technology. This is reflected across their wristwatches, but perhaps nowhere better than their Ingenieur family. For 2013, the line goes even further into magnificence by partnering with Mercedes-Benz. The Ingenieurs will be the official watches of Mercedes’ Formula One team, and their new design reflects the seriousness of this endeavor. The watches are studies in black composites and stormy gray titanium; some are decked out in carbon fiber, while others glint with a rich bronze hue.

FIREPOWER - JEREMY SCOTT BY LINDA FARROW PROJECTS

Jeremy Scott doesn’t care what you think. He’s made a point of this throughout his fashion career. He lets his inner muse speak to him, and the result isn’t always the most popular thing. But the right man with the right style can make his work shine. The latest offering in his long collaboration with Linda Farrow is certainly polarizing: he has replaced the legs of select sunglasses with molded renders of M-16s with an attached grenade launcher, they’ll sparkle on your head and leave a definite impression.

    SUCKER'S BET - LOUIS VUITTON

The old ways are sometimes the best. As warm weather starts to creep across the land, it’s time to start reaching for appropriate fabrics, and few of them take to the heat like seersucker. Those alternating stripes, that crinkled appearance, isn’t just a style choice; it helps hold the cloth away from the body, encouraging air circulation. Louis Vuitton knows how to update a classic; their new seersucker suit is made from pure silk, and it’s crafted in a subtle beige plaid that will blast away the drab legacy of your grandfather’s old blue-and-white stripes.

    DOUBLE TAKE - OPENING CEREMONY

In these uncertain economic times, stretching your dollar has never been more desirable. Therefore, everyone should appreciate Opening Ceremony’s efforts to give their customer the most bang for their buck with a two-in-one wind jacket. This light layer is stark white with contrasting black buttons on one side, but pulled inside out it reveals a nifty black and gray patchwork design. Use the black and gray side with some dark jeans at a concert, while the white side could be paired with colored trousers for a walk down the beach.
It’s a jacket that give new meaning to the word “versatile!”

WALK SOFTLY, WEAR A BIG SHOE - BOTTEGA VENETA

When it comes to high tops, less is rarely more. The whole notion is to put a little swagger in your step, but Bottega Veneta’s new Gainsboro Intrecciato manages to do that without sacrificing sophisticated subtlety. The entire upper of the sneaker is woven carefully into a basket-like pattern echoing the label’s iconic bags, while at the heel, the kiltie trend we’ve seen in women’s shoes and dress shoes migrates to casual sneakers in the form of an exaggerated fringe creating an striking visual effect. Finished in luxurious cream-hued suede, these shoes make a
    powerful, if muted, statement.

    PRECIOUS STONE - STONE ISLAND

Reflective clothing serves several unique purposes in a man’s wardrobe: It keeps him visible, therefore safe, when jogging at night. Typically, it will keep him dry in the rain. And it catches the light in just the right way to dazzle onlookers. Stone Island’s new Reflex Mat jackets achieve all of these goals with style to spare. The Reflex Mat is a new reflective coating, made by taking thousands and thousands of tiny glass spheres and sticking them into a polyester base. The result is a jacket that sparkles in twilight, particularly when cast in bold hues like red and green.

Stone Island has done well by turning style into a science, quite literally coming up with some profoundly innovative fabrications season after season, most of which were on full display for their 30th anniversary collection this Fall. New for Spring 2013, they’re bringing their touch to some reflective fabric that we’re thinking might be diamond of reflective materials. Made with a matte coating constructed of thousands of glass micro spheres on a polyester base and enriched with high saturation colour agents, the Stone Island Reflex Matte seems to produce actual light itself, glowing with a supernatural intensity of color even in the dark. The 5 Ways to Wear a Vest Jacket This Fall

The 5 Ways to Wear a Vest Jacket This Fall

While there’s a lot to look forward to, sartorially speaking, in this fall season of newly cool temperatures (even if its going to be like 80 degrees in New York City tomorrow), none is as particularly autumnal (or versatile) as the outerwear vest. Those sleeveless jackets that keep you warm, let you move around and, most importantly, give you plenty of layering options. This season’s biggest trends— from quilted and knits (which’ll transition from outer to under layers well come winter) to classic puffers and mixed fabrics—are waiting for you, after the jump.

The Quilted Vest

Kenzo

1) Kenzo Reversible Quilted Vest; $550 at barneys.com

There’s two kinds of gentleman wrapped up in this cotton and polyester (with corduroy trim) guy—nylon for when you’re feeling sporty, paisley for those more colorful moments.

White Mountaineering

2) White Mountaineering Quilted Pertex Taffeta Vest; $630 at ssense.com

Japanese minimal quirk at its most demure. Even the chest has concealed zip pockets.

The Knit

1) Miharayasuhiro Mohair Aran Knit Vest; $1852 at luisaviaroma.com

You’ll want to walk around with a permanently steaming mug of coco, or whatever, in this down feather lined mohair vest.

2) Wings and Horns Ombre Hand Knitted Vest; $425 at rodengray.com

We can trust the Canadians when it comes to knits.

The Mixed Fabric

1) Ralph Lauren Denim & Supply Multi-Patchwork Vest; $198 at ralphlauren.com

Here’s at least two fabrics we love about fall—suede in the yolk and faded flannel patchwork for the body.

2) Dolce & Gabbana Corduroy and Matt Nylon Vest; $1045 at luisaviaroma.com

Corduroy and nylon puff (here in an unassuming matt), stuffed with down feathers and accompanied by a hood will keep you looking fresh till perhaps the spring.

The Puffer

Stone Island

1) Stone Island Shadow Down Jacket; $565 at stoneisland.com

The unusual webbing pattern had us right away. Here’s one way to not look generic in this very popular of styles.

Adidas Silvr

2) Adidas Slvr M Down Vest; $410 at revolveclothing.com

And here’s another, especially with the double buttons.

The patterned

Rocky Mountain

1) Rocky Mountain Embroidered Vest; $1232 at colette.fr

Native inspirations aren’t going anywhere and we haven’t seen Teepees yet.

Nick Wooster

2) Drumohr X Nick Wooster; $895 at barneys.com

Not only is Nick Wooster taking over the world, but so is Fair Isle. This is also a mixed fabric look by the way, cashmere and nylon.
