Macaulay Culkin is the Face of Happy Socks’ Holiday Campaign

Beloved holiday institution Macaulay Culkin has lent his talents to Happy Socks for its Naughty or Nice campaign. Since its launch in 2008, the Swedish sock giant has become a multi-million dollar business and collaborated with everyone from Havaiana to Wiz Khalifa. Culkin is just the latest to partner with the brand in a quirky holiday campaign.

“Both Happy Socks and I have really good taste in spokesman,” Culkin said in a statement. “But yeah, Christmas is my time of year. I get recognized 10x more between the months of November and January. I have no idea why!”

Culkin is not the first to pivot into the titillating world of sock design (remember Rob Kardashian’s plans of a sock empire?) but he is the perfect face to represent the holiday collection since his role in 1990’s Home Alone launched him into the cultural consciousness and beyond. In the ad, he is seated in his element stroking a pet iguana while wearing an ugly Christmas sweater and three styles of Happy Socks socks. And, of course, he delivers his career-making scream. A merry Christmas indeed.

The Happy Socks Holiday collection is available online now. Watch the video above now.

Happy Socks Launches Swimwear

Just as we ease into sweet springtime and start planning beach getaways, Swedish sock giant Happy Socks is launching its first swimwear line. Known for its array of colorful socks and accessories, the label is expanding its presence with a seasonal beach line for men and women. For the coinciding campaign, the brand chose former Baywatch hunk David Hasselhoff as the face of the inaugural collection. As expected, the range is as playful and tongue-in-cheek as you’d imagine.

Happy Socks Swimwear is available in select stores and online now.

10 Years of Happy Socks

founders

Viktor Tell and Mikael Söderlindh | Photo: Courtesy of Happy Socks

Founded by Viktor Tell and Mikael Söderlindh exactly 10 years ago, Happy Socks has since sold 40 million pairs of socks. The two Swedes did exactly what no one has ever thought to do: give this forgotten, often unloved, fetish and oddity the attention and care it deserves.

Fast forward 10 years and Happy Socks has seen many collaborations, including The Beatles, A$AP Rocky, Rolex, and Snoop Dogg. Their socks have been sold at Barney’s New York and Opening Ceremony as well as their brandname boutiques themselves. Happy Socks make socks actually cool.

But the journey really started at home, in Sweden, where it’s custom to remove your shoes in the home. “Socks are quite important to our culture,” the duo explains. “So on the weekend you put on your nice socks,” which they would jokingly call ‘happy socks.’ The rest is history.

Happy Socks now carry an inventory of endless patterns of the original product, as well as underwear and swimwear. The latest drop from the brand is a collab with Keith Haring and a 10th bday box including 11 limited edition pairs of socks.

Looking ahead at the next 10 years, the founders plant to focus on detail and put in even more effort into their socks. To celebrate, yesterday Viktor and Mikael gathered NYC over some pizza, blowup floaties, and sock madness.

Coming off their recent capsule collection collab with streetwear cool kids The Hundreds, California sock-makers Richer Poorer release ANOTHER hard-hitting product team up today,  this time with tire-makers-turned-footwear-fanatics PF Flyers. Celebrating the latter’s arrival of a new model of its foundational Perkins shoe, the two brands have partnered up to produce a limited release, made-in-USA sock collection. Available in three different colors, each pair features a bold atomic crosshatch pattern intended to complement the softness of the Perkins shoe. First introduced decades ago, the updated style of the Perkins sees a cleaner design in a leather-bounded canvas body, and the new patterned socks add just enough pop.

Today, streetwear juggernauts The Hundreds launched a new collection with fellow Californians Richer Poorer, a collab sure to please the hypebeast in every man. Founded in Los Angeles in 2003, The Hundreds is a lifestyle brand that produces hip-hop influenced, distinctively SoCal men’s apparel. The new collection features four limited-edition products: black boxer briefs featuring The Hundreds’ recognizable “bomb” logo in a polka-dot print, as well as matching socks in black, yellow, and heather gray colorways. The socks aesthetically resemble Huf’s ubiquitous “plantlife” pairs, yet complement Richer Poorer’s vintage image. Equally at home with a pair of Vans or Timberlands, the collaboration effortlessly combines skateboarding style with rugged appeal. Plus, how often do you find underwear so dyn-o-mite?

Get New Socks Because Spring is Coming

which-men-s-fashions-need-to-make-a-comeback-92612501-jan-8-2013-1-600x400

With the temperature outside rising, layers of down and wool shedding, and the sun’s ground-hog tease of peekaboo (end this foreplay already, weather!) we can only assume one thing: Spring is almost here. Hurray! Let the warm-weather dancing end and the brunch-researching and vacation-planning begin, just don’t get too hasty on your fashion choices. No one needs to see cut-offs on the street—now or ever—or a naked ankle. It’s not time yet, people! Luckily there are a ton of different socks to cover up your private-foot-parts with, and still enjoy the sunny season *cue music*:

  • Kenzo
Kenzo Techno Cotton Printed Socks ($73.34): Ah Spring! With its warm rays of light shining, flowers blossoming, and clouds parting, there is nothing like it. But not all good things have to end with seasonal change. Luckily with these airy socks, you can have your head in the sun and your feet in the clouds—whoever said staying 'grounded' was a good thing? Available for purchase at select Kenzo retailers and online at LuisaViaRoma.com.

  • Stance
Stance Rancho Socks ($12): Hombre never looked so western—or athletic. This Spring, with all your hiking and physical activity (re: from the kitchen to the TV), you'll never lose that West Coast spirt of exploratory adventure with these premium cotton and deep heel pocketed socks. Available for purchase online at Stance.com.

  • Topman Fluro Patterned Socks
Topman Fluro Patterned Socks ($6): There are a lot of things going on in these multi-colored cotton and nylon printed socks. And if you're that kind of person (hint: if you are listening to Skrillex at 1 PM right now then you totally are) and aren't prone to strokes, these are the correct socks for your feet. Available for purchase at  Topman stores and online at Topman.com.

  • PaulSmith
Paul Smith Classic Signature Stripe Socks ($30): Are those whirly lollipops on your feet, or are you just happy it's not snow-globe weather outside anymore? Neither? That's fine because these multi-colored knitted socks from PS Classics are just as sweet. Available for purchase at select Paul Smith retailers and online at PaulSmith.co.uk.

  • Happy Socks
Happy Socks Orange Giraffe Print ($12): Say goodbye to any lingering seasonal affective disorders and hello to bright, happiness with these playful animal print, combined cotton socks. Perfect for any safari vacation, or to brighten up any Safari-browsing work session. Available for purchase at select Happy Socks retailers and online at HappySocks.com.

  • Marc Jacobs
Marc by Marc Jacobs Shasta Stripe Sock ($24): Hit em with a strong color-block, even if they can't always see it, with these gold and brown striped socks. They're the bee's knee...highs. Not really, they aren't knee highs, but they are cool. Available for purchase at select Marc by Marc Jacobs retailers and online at MarcJacobs.com.

  • JCrew
    J. Crew Bird's-Eye Pring Socks ($14.50): A little bit round-of-golf after the office, and a touch of grandmotherly kitsch, these cotton and nylon contrast printed socks will add some much needed green to your footwear ensembles. Available for purchase at select J.Crew stores and online at JCrew.com.

  • Uniqlo
Uniqlo Short Socks ($4.30): Subtly below the ankle, and smart—they're made of high-tech fabrics to absorbe moisture and keep your feet dry—these striped, knitted socks are as cheap as they are functional. Available for purchase at  Uniqlo stores and online at Uniqlo.com.

  • Cobalt Raf
Raf Simons ($65): Sure, it's a lot of cheddar to throw on something that you'll be literally sweating in all day, but think about how chic the inside of your shoes would be! Available for purchase at select Raf Simons retailers and online at SSENSE.com.

  • Men In Cities
Men In Cities Dates in Music Socks ($15.34): B&W aren't the first two colors that come to mind in Spring (well, unless you're depressed/us), but this culturally-significant pair of socks (one of a set of three) pays homage to important dates in music history, specifically July 20, 1965 when Bob Dylan released "Like a Rolling Stone." What better way to say goodbye to Winter? Available for purchase at select Men In Cities retailers and online at MenInCities.com.

A Kickstarter to Watch: Nice Laundry

Nice Laundry Socks Kickstarter purchase release launch sale discount quality cotton

Hopeful new sock brand Nice Laundry broke a fashion Kickstarter record the other day by snagging 279 backers on their launch date—the most ever individual contributors on any member’s first day. Perhaps because there’s always room in your sock drawer for just one more pair, but more likely that their idea just really spoke to guys’ hearts—stylish socks, superior quality and, especially sane prices. Sounds cool but really, what’s so special? They’re offering up socks that use the same factories as places like J.Crew and have hired a designer who used to work for Polo and Levis, so you’re getting high-end craftsmanship/fabrication along with on-point, style savvy patterns. But, instead of charging you $12 or so for a pair, Nice Laundry are offering up the socks for about $6.50. They’ll come in curated packs of 6 for $39, in your choice of “Exec,” “Wild Child,” “Ladies Man” and “Visionary,” to name a few. Also, you can just opt to have them replace your entire sock drawer—all 18 styles for just $90. That’s $5 a pair; really not bad. They also include a pre-paid shipping order in every delivery so you can send them your gnarly old socks for recycling. Try not to think too hard about that but, know that your old socks are probably in better hands with the Nice Landry people than, say, in the trash can…and especially your sock drawer. Check the Nice Laundry socks Kickstarter here and stay tuned…We’ve a feeling you’ll be hearing more about these guys in the weeks to come.

The NBA All-Star Weekend Style We Endorse—Socks

STANCE NBA LEGENDS SOCKS nba all star weekend sale discount purchase buy

It’s NBA All-Star weekend, which means there’ll be plenty of horrific, if well intentioned, team sport style offenses popping up all over the place. Face paint. Jerseys in the dead of winter. Ill fitting sweat pants. You know the deal, so here’s a suggestion. Socks. Yes, socks. One of our fave brands, STANCE, just dropped an NBA Legends with digital prints of the game’s most beloved athletes and graphic sporty socks dedicated to their teams. Not only are they deferential nods to players like Dr. J, Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing, Dennis Rodman but they also respect something we, and plenty of basketball players, hold quite dear—style. 3 points for clicking here…
