Diptyque’s New Fragrance is an Ode to the City of Light

In its latest ode to Paris, Diptyque released a range of fragrances inspired by the traditional chypre. For those that don’t know, a chypre is a lively scent that’s characterized by vibrant citrus notes and earthy, floral, and woody undertones — a perfect spring repose to start the year. The French scent maker launched the Eau de Parfum Eau Capitale, a unisex update to the formal fragrance that is influenced by the City of Lights and stands as “an ‘abstract,’ enigmatic fragrance,” according to a press release. Packaging for the fragrance follows an Art Nouveau theme, exemplified with intricate and graphic illustrations. A limited-edition collection of similarly scented candles accompany the launch of this new scent.

Thom Browne is the Latest to Go Co-Ed

After Versace made a similar announcement last month, Thom Browne is the latest designer to merge his women’s and men’s collections into one show.  The American designer will present his first co-ed collection for Fall 2020 in Paris on March 1.

“There’s been a couple of seasons that I’ve been talking about my collections being connected, and I think it’s time to put that into actual practice,” Browne told WWD.

While other brands like Gucci and Salvatore Ferragamo are reviving their men’s shows, more designers are getting adjusted to fewer shows. Versace announced it will only present two collections a year (similar to Alexander Wang), so the traditional fashion week model continues to evolve for the new decade. And since most Thom Browne shows are more like performance art, I’m sure that bringing his men’s and women’s collections together is only gonna make a stronger spectacle.

Inside the Moncler House of Genius Multi-City Takeover

Whether crafting opulent puffer coat gowns that are brought to life on the red carpet or partnering with acclaimed and flamboyant designers like Richard Quinn, Moncler remains on the pulse of innovation. For its latest, the Italian outerwear brand has constructed gallery-like temporary stores in Milan, Paris, and Tokyo, in an effort to showcase the work of emerging artists and act as an incubator for exclusive launches.

Overseen by artistic director Francesco Ragazzi, Moncler House of Genius is framed as a revolutionary retail experience, one that’s “fluid, dynamic and evolutive,” according to a press release. Each of the locations is stocked with limited-edition merchandise that’s been inspired by its home city — in addition to the label’s premium outerwear and other accessories, customers will have the opportunity to buy one of eleven T-shirts, emblazoned with city crests, from a vending machine while perusing art pieces displayed throughout the museum-inspired interior. A series of events, including panels and other initiatives, will also take place in each of the respective pop-up shops to further establish a sense of creative community among fans of the designer.

Moncler House of Genius is open now. Check out more images of the spaces in the gallery above.

ENFANTS RICHES DÉPRIMÉS

Enfants Riches Déprimes Opens First Paris Store

The Parisian brand Enfants Riches Déprimes has just opened its first flagship store on 79 rue Charlot in the ditzy 3émé arrondissement. Embodying the label’s intrinsic values, the boutique pays homage to depravity and deconstructed opulence.

Designed by French architect, Didier Faustino, in collaboration with Henri Alexander Levy, the two-story space features an enclosed grey zone and lime green flooring and sofa on the opposite side. The combination of dark marble and harsh lines is immediately softened by a plush green Pierre Paulin sofa. This choice of interior evokes feelings of modern surrealism. “It feels like a mixture of a bank vault, brutalist torture chamber, and Clockwork Orange. I want people to feel as uncomfortable as possible,” brand founder Henri Alexander Levy said in a statement.

Take a look at some more pictures of the new store below.

Faith Connexion Enters a New Age

Faith Connexion, a once-anonymous “tribe” of designers and creatives, is rethinking its structure. Long an anarchic collective without formal leadership, the group that seamlessly melds punk rock with urban wear with everything in-between is looking to Nikola Vasari for more guidance. Vasari, a Parisian, is known for his work at Saint Laurent and Balmain, and for his adoration of embroideries and stones. This change doesn’t mean Faith Connexion is losing its ethos—far from it. Under the streamlined politics of Vasari, the group will be able to push further than ever into the idiosyncratic. With an ever-broadening roster of collaborators from broad walks of life—including hip-hop legend Swizz Beatz–Faith Connexion is growing, not changing.

Givenchy Releases a Capsule Inspired by its Couture History

Haute couture, which roughly translates to ‘high dressmaking’ or ‘high fashion,’ has historically been defined as a hand-tailored item made for one individual client. But just because you do custom orders doesn’t mean you can call yourself a Haute couture designer — you have to be admitted by the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in France. There are currently only 150 official Haute couturiers working today, and Givenchy is one of the originals.

Due to their exclusivity, unless you’re famous or just very rich, these coveted garments are hard to come by. Fortunately, Givenchy is releasing a capsule collection with Bergdorf Goodman, inspired by some of its greatest couture hits. While couture has mainly being dominated by womenswear, the French designer infused its magic in a range of menswear pieces. Trousers are flared, and some are given a zipper detail for a modern edge. Extra attention to detail makes men’s standards — including a white button-down shirt, a leather jacket, and a blazer — all the more refined and crisper.

The “Givenchy Atelier” collection is available now at Bergdorf Goodman and online now.

24S x A.P.C. Release Collection of Minimalist Fall Essentials

24S, the two-year-old LVMH-owned luxury shopping platform, recently expanded into menswear — it’s currently the exclusive online retailer for Dior Men and Celine’s own menswear. To celebrate this development and shift towards the men’s market, the e-tailer launched a fall capsule collection with A.P.C.

The line is an enriched and minimal take on quintessential fall essentials. A camel suede bomber jacket, inspired and named after British singer Bryan Ferry, is a classic layering piece that can elevate a simple look. And the grey aviator jacket with a plush shearling collar is a sleeker alternative to a heavy winter coat. Plus, the highly-anticipated Top Gun 2 comes out next year, so an aviator look is right on the money. Then there are two sweater options: one is an understated A.P.C.-branded crewneck and the other is a festive leopard-print-slash-camouflage knit moment that will definitely breathe some life into your fall wardrobe.

The 24S x A.P.C. fall collection is available online now.

Balenciaga’s LED Glasses Make a Case for Wearable Tech

There was a lot going on at the Balenciaga show in Paris over the weekend. For its Spring 2020 collection, the designer (still overseen by Demna Gvasalia who recently left Vetements) styled its cast of models and non-models with angled facial prosthetics, barricade-like shoulder pads were out in full force, and a case for the Spanish label’s own Top Model spin-off — Balenciaga’s Top Model — was made loud and clear via a black graphic tee.

But one of the biggest hits from the night was also one of the most simple: a pair of sunglasses enriched with a glowing LED logo on the side. The eyewear was inspired by light-up sneakers (the ’90s remains a constant source of influence for the designer) and can be charged with a USB cable. The LED display is triggered by a sensor that’s activated once the arms are unfolded — even better, you can tap the side to make the logo change color for maximum rave effect.

A lot of brands have been trying to make wearable tech happen for a while. (Remember how hard Google tried to push Google Glass down our throats a few years back? I can’t even remember the last time I saw a pair of those things IRL. Thank god.) But with the reception these glasses have gotten on social media since their debut, it’s evident that wearable tech might be a thing best kept simple. Who’d have thought that Demna, a man who’s never met an oversized silhouette it didn’t like, would be so good at ‘Less is more?’

A Heron Preston x UGG Collab is Coming Next Month

Just yesterday Telfar revealed an upcoming collab with Converse during its Spring/Summer 2020 presentation in Paris, but now another capsule is making the rounds. After debuting its collaboration with UGG earlier this year, Heron Preston announced the forthcoming collection will drop next month. The American designer incorporated his signature street edge into some of the Australian footwear brand’s most popular styles. The Classic Mini and Tasman models have been redone in fluorescent orange and some tie-dye patterns and updated with mesh, suede, contrasting stitching, and pull tabs.

The Heron Preston x UGG collection will be available in UGG stores and online.

Telfar x Converse Collab Debuts in Paris

During the New York designer’s Spring/Summer 2020 show in Paris, Telfar unveiled a new capsule made in collaboration with Converse. Inspired by the American footwear giant’s archive pieces, including Pro Leather, ERX and classic Chuck 70, the new styles are a fresh take on some of the most recognizable shoe models. The partnership extended into a series of full apparel looks, with a collection of jersey sets, tracksuits, and t-shirts that reworked Converse’s signature star logo as a graphic statement print. Telfar has previously collaborated on wildly successful collections with partners as random as White Castle and FAKA, so a partnership with Converse might be its most practical and yet.
