This season marks the 11th collaboration between visionary Raf Simons and the long-living sportswear label that is Fred Perry. Following the release of a video teaser for the Raf Simons x Fred Perry Spring 2015 collection, an editorial styled by Bodega shows a fresh new take on Raf Simons and emphasizes menswear’s roots in street fashion, tracing back to its first appearance at jazz clubs in Soho, London in the 1950s, to punk shows in the ’70s, two-tone and ska shows in the ’80s, and soccer stadiums in the ’90s. The pieces in this latest partnered collection are mostly monochromatic with abstract Africa-inspired forms that take shape in all-over prints. The slim-fit polos with detachable collars we have seen from the duo before are even slimmer and longer this time around. Known for referencing music subcultures in his designs, Raf Simons uses the label’s key shapes as a base to subvert the classic Fred Perry garment: the embroidered badge logos with an ‘R’ in a graphic form adorn woven and pique shirts that suggest the design of graphic album covers.

Raf Simons x Fred Perry Spring 2015 and Fred Perry is now available at Bodega and online.
