A New Poolside Direction: DANWARD
The pool presents plenty a challenge for the style-minded man. High-low might work for the street but not for chilling poolside. So first, you’ve got to find a slick place that serves choice cocktails and food, preferably to your private cabana. The Rooftop by Gordon Ramsey at the London Hotel in Los Angeles is just such a place (and, some news, will be opening their currently private rooftop pool to reservations from non-guests as soon as this May). Then you’ll need an SPF that won’t leave you looking like Casper. Solar Shield Moisturizing Sunblock SPF 28 with Enriched Botanicals by Brave Solder is one we recently fell in love with. But…before any of that, there’s your look. Luckily, in 2013 we have no shortage of well made swimwear brands to choose from, but since you’re probably looking to do something more au courant than, uh, au-gain, you’ll want to sport add one of the most buzzed about new brands in luxe swimwear to your mix. That would be a Swiss based brand called DANWARD. The just released Spring 2013 collection is the first to be available in the United States and mixes classic swimwear cuts that wink and nod to mid-century manliness—think speedos, brazilian cut trunks—with decidedly sinuous though hirsute modern shapes—namely with their best selling sandals. The designer, Dan Ward, cut his chops for over 20 years designing and merchandising for such houses as Hermès, Dunhill, Bally and Calvin Klein, launching DANWARD only last summer. The buzz has landed their threads at some of the world’s most exclusive stores, spas and hotels so make some room in your drawers.
