Adidas Updates The Aloha Super Silhouette

First launched last year, the Aloha Super silhouette from Adidas Skateboarding was an homage to iconic skateboarder Mark “Gonz” Gonzales. The brand just released an updated style, with new colorways inspired by Gonzales’ famous ollie in the 1991 classic Video Days by Blind Skateboards. The result is a creamy suede sneaker with white and black leather details and a light pink insole and logo. The original shoe was inspired by the adiStar fencing shoe worn by Gonz during his acclaimed 1998 performance piece at the Staedtisches Museum in Germany. With such a rich history of influence, the updated Aloha sneaker definitely has its stakes up high.

Each pair was reportedly blessed by a priest and includes a red insole that resembles the Papal shoes worn at the Vatican. The sole of the shoe is transparent to show the holy water as a pun to “walking on water.” The final touches are Holy crosses on each of the laces. Seemingly buyers were thrilled about the opportunity to reach higher being for just a price that is monthly rent in New York. Speaking of New York, the pair was made by a Brooklyn-based company MSCHF that redesigned the original Nike Air Max 97 model. And just like that, Nike has outdone all collaborations by working Him himself.

Pierre Hardy Releases New Sneaker with Victor Cruz

This week in sneakers: Pierre Hardy is releasing a new limited-edition sneaker collection with professional football star Victor Cruz, dubbed the V. C. I. The athlete has a close relationship with the designer, frequently visiting the designer’s studio in Paris during fashion season, but the decision to officially work together occurred sometime last spring.

The new footwear styles are modeled after significant years in Cruz’s life: the 1996 model is a blue and orange color-blocked sneaker that represents the year the athlete “fell in love with football.” The 2006 style is a bold black-and-grey shoe that recalls Cruz’s first varsity season at the University of Massachusetts and finally, the 2012 sneaker represents Cruz’s first Superbowl victory with the New York Giants.

“We started from taking a pre-existing construction of a shoe in my collection, and then we emphasized it by making it stronger in appearance,” Hardy said in a statement. “The look became something performative or Olympian — a super-competitive shoe. We tried to push the aesthetic to the maximum, to make the sneakers as expressive as possible.”

The V.C.I. is available in select Pierre Hardy stores and online tonight at 6pm EST.

Sacai x Nike Give Double Vision

Eschewing traditional takes, the latest collection from Sacai and Nike focuses on revamping what makes a sneaker, from tongue to sole. Footwear from the line may cause double vision: both the low-tops and mid-tops feature layers of tongues, overlapping swooshes, and color compositions that make them easy to match with anything. Other pieces from the collection embrace ‘90s-style nostalgia, experimenting with different combinations of denim and flannel—a perfect fusion of bold and traditional.

N.Hoolywood Does the Outdoors for Fall 19

Shearling lining, oversized cable knits, large backpacks, and other items you’d need for a peaceful retreat into the woods were all included in N.Hoolywood‘s Fall ’19 collection. The latest offering from Japanese/American designer Daisuke Obana was heavy on layering, featuring looks that opted for maxim insulation and contrasting them with relaxed, deconstructed pieces. Camouflage, plaid, and other prints (like wolf graphics on select sweaters) and pops of color against monochromatic ensembles breathed energy in the collection, which was additionally enhanced by sneakers designed in collaboration with New Balance. And the number of utility pockets, pouches, and large backpacks featured seem to suggest a shift away from the designer fanny pack trend into something more utilitarian and practical — see for yourself below.
