Go Hard and Cool Off at S10

If you’re the type who likes their workout to really destroy them, S10 in the West Village is waiting for you. With a highly-devised workout program designed by a team of top-notch trainers, the newly opened boutique fitness center is the perfect venue to live out your full boot camp fantasy. Private one-on-one sessions are available for personalized results-direct training — each trainer has a specialty ranging from strength to endurance to performance depending on what your #bodygoals are — but if you’re the type who likes an audience, semi-private group courses are also available. Either way, if there’s any gym that’s gonna train you to do 1000 push-ups, it’s this one.

After you’re done feeling the burn and then some, the S10 Recovery Spa is there to help you cool down by sweating it out. Members have the option of six tranquil suites each equipped with an infrared sauna, steam room, and sunken bath for total post-workout relaxation. After straining my neck while attempting a 22-day abs challenge (this one, in case you were wondering), it was the perfect remedy. I could feel every toxin being pulled out of my young flesh while lounging in the sauna, and then again in the steam room before I took the first proper bath I’ve taken in years because I don’t have a bathtub in my apartment. It was pretty blissful. They even let you control the music so you can soundtrack your own serene experience. (I listened to Norman Fucking Rockwell! by Lana del Rey, in case you were wondering.)

Later this spring, the location will open a cafe stocked with healthy dining options and snacks because, after all, abs are made in the kitchen. From intensive training to intensive cool down, it’s clear that S10 has all the facilities to make you look and feel like a perfect ten.

Tame Impala, Missy Elliot, and Flume Will Headline Governors Ball

To celebrate the festival’s 10-year anniversary, Governors Ball just revealed one of its best lineups in years. For the 2020 edition of the summer festival, Tame Impala, Missy Elliott, Flume, and Vampire Weekend will appear as headliners for the three-day festival in June.

Tame Impala’s highly anticipated fourth album, The Slow Rush, arrives in February and the band’s dynamic psychedelic rock is perfect for large-scale festivals. Same with Vampire Weekend. On the other hand, Flume’s dreamy production is the ideal soundtrack to surround yourself with a bunch of strangers on drugs dancing. And Missy Eliott is, of course, Missy Elliott.

Other artists slated to appear at the festival include Stevie Nicks, Miley Cyrus, Solange, H.E.R., Foals, Carly Rae Jepsen, Milky Chance, Bleachers, Banks, Danny Brown, Alessia Cara, Danny Brown, Girl Talk, Swae Lee, Muna, Cuco, Princess Nokia and more. Read the full lineup below.

Governors Ball 2020 will take place on June 5-7. Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 12 pm EST.

Schott x Dr. Martens Have Perfected the Leather Boot

No two brands have dressed more punks than Dr. Martens and Schott. While both have long been revered as experts in their field — Dr. Martens has mastered the combat boot and Schott crafted the contemporary blueprint for every leather jacket ever — they are now teaming up on a limited-edition shoe collection. Collaborating on two Doc staple boots, the stage and street-ready 1460 and 1490, each has been crafted with premium leather and stamped with Schott’s distinct silver star stud, a punk seal of approval.

Ettinger Hosts a Flagship Residency in New York

Midtown gets a dose of British class with a new Ettinger residency opening this fall. Taking over the historic Turnbull & Asser Townhouse, the British tailoring label’s premiere Manhattan outpost, the leather goods brand is expanding its presence with an innovative and intimate retail experience. The residency carries a wide assortment of Ettinger’s signature leather accessories, including its wallets and luggage range, while serving as the site for the label’s first bespoke offering. Fittingly titled Ettinger Bespoke, the new in-store initiative will allow customers to personalize their own merchandise (they can choose from a selection of eight products) with on-site customization services including embroidery and embossing.

“This opportunity and the coming together of Ettinger and Turnbull & Asser in New York is undoubtedly one of our most exciting brand and retail collaborations,” Ettinger’s CEO Robert Ettinger said in a statement. “We are also delighted that Ettinger Bespoke is being offered alongside Turnbull & Asser’s bespoke services. We really see that as an exciting development for both brands as the appeal of bespoke gets ever bigger amongst our discerning customers.”

The Ettinger residency is open now at 50 E 57th St, NY 10022.

There’s Something Missing from This New York Pool Bar…

Nothing quite indicates a sense of power in New York City like having access to a pool. You would think that a town that transforms into a humid concrete swamp four months out of the year would realize the capital potential of pools for its 8 million residents, but that’s just not the case. Actual decent pools are hard to come by (and afford) in the city if you’re not part of the 1%. There’s even an entire Sex and the City episode (which essentially doubles as a Soho House ad) dedicated to this phenomenon. But one downtown bar is challenging what it means to lounge poolside in the city.

NO POOL, a new bar housed on the roof of The Standard, East Village, is exactly as it sounds. The tropical-themed bar has all the fixtures of a traditional pool establishment — lounge chairs, palm trees, and beachy cocktails galore — but omits the actual pool itself. But with light snacks, fruity popsicles, even fruiter drinks, and that perfect city view, it’s the perfect summer spot to unwind, water or no water.

NO POOL is open now at 25 Cooper Square, NY 10003.

Keith Haring is Lacoste’s Latest Muse

The bold and socially conscious work of  Keith Haring remains an infinite source of inspiration for designers across mediums, and Lacoste is the latest to pay homage with a new limited-edition collection inspired by the American street artist. The contemporary label is featuring some of Haring’s most recognizable work (including the “Barking Dog” and “Hearts” illustrations) on a series of polos, t-shirts, sweatshirts, backpacks, and sneakers, both in color or in black-and-white colorways — the pieces are so striking that either works, tbh.

The Keith Haring x Lacoste collection will be available on March 27th in select stores and online. Check out some of the pieces below.

Public School Opens Ralph Lauren-Inspired Exhibit in SoHo

PSNY Lo and Behold image

Earlier this week LO & BEHOLD; A Case Study in Cultural Re-Appropriation, an exhibition curated by Ezra Wine and Public School, opened up in SoHo. The exhibit looks at Polo Ralph Lauren‘s influence on urban culture, which has clear ties to to today’s sneaker and streetwear obsession, and the subculture of collecting pieces from the brand.

The display is an explanation of the groundbreaking presence the Lo-Lifes (two Brooklyn crews, Ralphie’s Kids and Polo U.S.A) had for collecting pieces from Polo. They took clothing made for preppy people and reclaimed them for urban audiences. They seized patronage of the brand, reversed traditional power balances, and used individuals and communities to influence a major brand.

Ralph Lauren celebrated its 50th Anniversary last year, and with a nod to the importance of NYC subculture, collections from the early 90’s have been re-released for the first time. The exhibit is set in 3 different 90’s teenage bedrooms and features over 100 original pieces from Polo Ralph Lauren (circa 1988-1994).

LO & BEHOLD is on display now until November 1st at 3 Howard Street, New York, NY 10013.

For SS19, Linder Continues its Love Story

New York contemporary designer Linder has carved a special place for itself in the crowded and ephemeral fashion landscape. Founded by Sam Linder and Kirk Millar in 2013, the label consistently produces romantic collections with a dark edge that distinguishes them from their peers. This season is no different — for menswear, there’s a queerness to the clothes that’s idiosyncratic and entirely organic. We spoke to Millar, who earlier this year took over creative direction for the brand’s menswear while Linder oversees women’s, during the SS19 menswear presentation hosted atop the Public Hotel on the Lower East Side.

“I always, with a traditional fashion show, feel left a little empty afterwards. Like it goes by so quickly, so this is nice” Millar shares, gesturing at the crowd of people mingling on the terrace and generally having a ball. “I can be social with people, and talk them through what they’re seeing. I also feel think in terms of how social media goes and the ability for people to get to take their own photos and let it sink in — it’s a better format.”

For FW19, the designer focused on the queer experience, incorporating various symbolism into the pieces — some shirts were printed with texts from gay romance novels — and dismantling toxic notions of traditional masculinity. The newest collection continues that theme, which is personal to Millar’s own experiences while retaining a universality.

rwCIYDBg

“Since the last collection was the first I had designed myself, it was an opportunity to open up this door of talking about that,” Millar shares on the collection’s queer themes. “Somewhat with experiences that I’ve had, but just kinda thinking universally about what it means to be gay — what it’s like to come out was the focus of the last collection, but this one is much more like, trying to find companionship, somebody you wanna be with for a long time. It’s definitely baked into this one.”

There is an obvious sentiment to the pieces, which include T-shirts bearing cute graphics reading ‘Boyfriend’ and ‘Wait for Me’ along with a series of vibrant sweaters featuring radiant prints, which Millar elaborates on. “The sweaters are taken from my grandmother’s scrapbook,” he reveals. “The prints stand out a lot, and they all have meaning.”

Dining Al Fresco in NYC with Chef Joe Cash #2

In a city of endless eats, sometimes one just has too many options — we narrow it down with the help of a professional chef. Joe Cash is the Chef De Cuisine at The Pool, one of New York City’s premiere dining destinations. Cash has spent time working on top kitchens such as Thomas Keller’s Per Se and Rene Redzepi’s Noma in Copenhagen before returning to New York.

Summer offers endless drinks and dinners outside, looking out onto the sea from Capri or the Seine in a cafe in Paris, but New York’s dining outside is quite special in of itself. We asked Joe about his go-to outside dining spots~

“I love Flora Bar because you can try a ton of light, fun, and refreshing seafood and vegetable dishes. It only gets better when you can take it all outside to their subterranean patio. I always get the uni with red shrimp and nori.”

“Island Oyster is a nice break from the city. Eating oysters and lobster rolls as you take in the view of the Lower Manhattan waterfront is the ultimate weekend retreat. P.S. there is rosé on tap.”

It’s Been A Long Week: Mrs. Green Thumb

cocktail (2)

As true believers of the work hard, play hard mantra, we present you with It’s Been a Long Week, a weekly column aimed at awarding some liquid appreciation to you for just being yourself, dammit. Get yourself a glass or two on us, you deserve it.

May showers, May flowers? No matter how confused NYC weather is as of lately, NYLO Hotel took this seriously at their Arthouse Flower Market. The boozy delight Mrs. Green Thumb in particular is quite literally served in a pot plant, from a watering can and can cure any spring blues. NYLO is known for its whimsical pop-ups (such as tequila served in a gum-ball machine), and this time the flower shop will run through June 30th taking over the hotel lobby with flowers and plenty of floral-inspired cocktails. Learn how to recreate one below~

Ingredients:

  • 1.5oz Código 1530 Rosa Tequila
  • 2oz Kiwi Puree
  • .75oz Safflower Syrup
  • .25oz Giffard’s Fleur de Sureau sauvage
  • 2 cucumbers, muddled
  • 2 Jalapeños, muddled

Preparation: Add cucumbers, jalapenos, tequila, puree, safflower syrup and fleur de sureau into shaker and briefly muddle. Add ice and shake for 7 seconds. Double strain into flower pot mug with ice. Garnish with mint sprigs and edible flowers.

Cheers!

New York’s unofficial summer kickoff is the bubbliest and chicest Polo Classic hosted by Veuve-Clicquot at New Jersey’s Liberty State Park with the Manhattan skyline as a picturesque backdrop. This year’s event will take place on June 2nd, with tickets being released tomorrow.

Attended by thousands of New Yorkers and celebrities, the event has seen about everyone from Madonna to Hugh Jackman and Michael Jordan. This year, the event is expected to be a tad more glamorous (if that’s even possible) because Veuve Clicquot is celebrating the 200th anniversary of creating the world’s first blended Rosé Champagne  — plenty of which will be flowing at the event. Additionally, a special space dubbed the “Rosé Garden” will offer a special experience with Rosé Champagne.

Sounds like the perfect upgrade to a summer garden party with sunny skies, NYC, French champagne, chic guests, and polo! Early bird tickets ($85) will be available online starting tomorrow, April 19th.
