It’s All in the Hermès Bag

By integrating a vital print into a signature bag, Hermès updates a timeless style with a contemporary edge. The Bayadere collection recalls the athletic spirit that inspired the French label’s direction in the ‘30s — one example includes a travel bag with a Jacquard weave. Elsewhere, archival patterns are reimagined into an angled stripe print that adds modern dimension to the heritage brand.

Walk on Air with Prada Cloudbust Thunder

The iconic silhouette of Prada’s Cloudbust sneaker just got thunderstruck. Inspired by sportswear, Prada has found a way to give their sneaker unmatched flexibility, softness, and grip. The practicality of the shoe is met by a robust and eye-grabbing design, which combines a classic palette of black, white, scarlet, and blue. A perfect mix of spectacle and streetwear practicality, the Cloudbust Thunder line is sure to make noise wherever it goes.

margiela SS90 graffiti Tabi Boots

Maison Margiela Adds Graffiti to its Tabi Boots

Long a signature of the brand since its debut in the ’90s, Margiela has once again updated its Tabi boots. Out later this month, the French designer made over the oft-imitated-never-duplicated cult footwear with graphic punch. Available in black and white, the mini-capsule also includes leather bags that have been similarly covered with a bold and colorful print that evokes the look of graffiti-covered bathrooms that are housed in most DIY venue spaces. The boots and bags will be available later this month in stores and online, so you might wanna snag a pair while you can ahead of the forthcoming Margiela documentary.

Mark Webber is the Face of Porsche x BOSS FW19

BOSS has a long history working with athletes, so its recent partnership with Porsche should come as no surprise. In addition to outfitting Porsche’s Formula E team (as well as its teams around the world), the two German brands released a collaborative collection of contemporary pieces for non-racers. But keeping in theme with the driving fantasy, retired Formula 1 champion Mark Webber is the face of the accompanying campaign.

Webber first worked with BOSS in the late ’90s. Despite associating with different teams throughout his lengthy career, he cites the designer as keeping him grounded. “BOSS kept feeding me and I kept buying BOSS even when I wasn’t associated with the brand,” he says. When news broke of the partnership, his involvement was a no-brainer. “I sort of see it as the band being back together,” he jokes. “I’m sure it’s gonna be a hit.”

Born in Australia, the veteran racer has had a lengthy career behind the wheel — in 2013 he retired from Formula 1 and two years later won the FIA World Endurance Championship before officially retiring from the sport a year later. As the face of the Fall/Winter 2019 campaign, Webber acknowledges the convenience and poise of the brand’s menswear. “They’ve always been pretty timeless and sporty. For me, I like that it’s strong and bold — it’s a very wide wardrobe for me.”

Unsurprisingly, the collection effortlessly captures the action and coolness of traditional driving gear and gives it a sophisticated and practical twist. This is evident in the classic leather motor jacket and subtly sleek black sneakers. Since this is also a sports-inspired range after all, there are plenty of performance-inspired pieces too — polo shirts and knitted pullovers are equipped with zippered necklines for optimum convenience. The collection is full of minimal yet clever design details that fuse the excitement of the sport with the contemporary polish of BOSS.

“HUGO BOSS and Porsche both stand for innovation and perfection,” CEO of HUGO BOSS AG Mark Langer said in a statement. “We have already cooperated successfully in the area of motor sports over the course of recent years and decades. That is why I am delighted that our cooperation will now reach a new level with the future-oriented Formula E series.”

Later this year BOSS will dress Neel Jani, who’s driven for Porsche since 2013, when he races in the upcoming Formula E sixth season. He also notes similarities between the car brand and designer. “Precision is everything in racing,” he says. “And so it is with BOSS. You have to know what you like and I think it’s that philosophy that both share that makes it [the parntership] work.”

The Porsche x BOSS Fall/Winter 2019 collection is now available in select stores and online.

Celine’s Triomphe Briefcase is Perfect for Fall

The spirit of Hedi Slimane is alive and well in the latest briefcases and leather pieces from Celine. Launching later this month, the designer’s new Triomphe Coated Canvas collection has the best gear to help ease the transition from summer to fall with a selection of rock star-approved goods.

The new canvas range features a slew of lush luggage, mini-messenger bags, wallets, backpacks, and tote bags, but the main focus is the briefcases. A black-and-white paint-print briefcase (pictured above) is ornamented with gold hardware details, finding a perfect harmony between classic luxe and post-punk savvy. Meanwhile, an all-black calfskin option embossed with the designer’s logo offers a more straightforward option for the office. Either way, a new briefcase is a perfect way to get over any post-summer blues.

Moncler Cast Will Smith in his First Ever Campaign

Will Smith, despite being one of the highest-grossing actors of his generation, has never starred in a fashion campaign. But this changed with the latest Moncler “Genius is Born Crazy” campaign shot by Tim Walker. Remo Ruffini, CEO of Moncler, told WWD that it was “an honor to have Will Smith, in his first advertising fashion campaign, embracing our ‘crazy’ idea to celebrate the genius hidden within everyone.”

The images feature Smith floating in a solid light gray room with only a light bulb dangling above his head. The idea for the campaign comes from the popular saying that there is a difference between genius and crazy, but clearly, Moncler thinks otherwise. Going from a skiing gear company to an extremely popular luxury brand is a textbook example of fusing craziness and genius as one.

Yohji Yamamoto Adds His Signature to an Adidas Classic

Since Adidas and Yohji Yamamoto joint forces to launch Y-3 back in 2003, the super-label has consistently delivered cutting-edge looks at the apex of performance and style. The latest sneaker, an updated version of Adidas’ popular Salvation model, continues to honor this creative relationship with two styles available in black and white. The new Y-3 FYW S-97 shoe is embedded with premium Feet You Wear technology — an innovative development made to mimic the foot’s natural movement, this feature was popular in the late ’90s before making a comeback last year — as well as BOOST cushioning. To top it off, the sneaker’s exterior features a branded embroidered signature from Yamamoto’s label to truly honor the collaborative effort that’s been going strong for over a decade.

Rickey Thompson Plugs New Alexander Wang Sneakers

Encased in PVC armor, Alexander Wang‘s latest sneaker is designed to sustain everything and every stain life throws your way. The designer’s newest Stadium Sneaker (available in three colorways — white, black, and orange) looks like a classic retro shoe, but the lamination gives it a sleek and glossy finish. If you’re not completely sold on yet another designer sneaker, no worries — comedian Rickey Thompson (of Vine fame, tbt) details all of the Stadium Sneaker’s star capabilities in a helpful infomercial. margiela in his own words documentary

The Margiela Documentary is Officially Coming

When a documentary chronicling the life and legacy of the elusive Maison Margiela arose last year, fan speculation was sent into overdrive. The Belgian designer, whose influence on 90’s avant-garde continues to feed a generation of designers and fashion savants alike, has honed such a private existence that not a single photo of the designer exists. How iconic is that?

Anyways, a new Instagram account for the film surfaced recently announcing that the film will be titled Margiela In His Own Words essentially confirming the designer’s direct involvement in its production. A poster for the documentary shares that German director Reiner Holzemer will be directing the feature and it will be produced by Dogwoof, who also produced the Vivienne Westwood documentary that premiered at Sundance last spring. There’s still no release date for the film, but it’s very on brand that details surrounding the upcoming doc are just as elusive as the designer himself.
