The Celebrity Roll Call on ‘Fallon’ Last Night Stole the Show

“Amazing night. @jimmyfallon received the torch with grace, humility & great humor. It was a thrill to witness & meet some of the others paying up on bet. X, sj Photo credit: @kimkardashian”

The Late Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon premiered last night (er..this morning?) at midnight. The hour was chocked full of memorable moments — with guests Will Smith and U2 — but it was what happened a bit earlier in the evening, that got the internet talking. “To my buddy who said that I’d never be the host of The Tonight Show, and you know who you are, you owe me a hundred bucks,” said the happy host before unleashing a celebrity roll call from the gates of hell (Hollywood).

What resulted next wasn’t just one buddy, but a bunch of buddies, the likes of whom make up a roster even more diverse than a Garry Marshall “blockbuster.”

Roll call:

Robert De Niro -> Tiny Fey (in leather pants!) -> “Broadway Joe” Namath -> Rudy Giuliani (“Thanks for bringing it back to New York”)  -> Mariah Carey (with fingerless gloves; with the bill tucked in her bra; with diva poise) -> Tracy Morgan -> Joan Rivers -> Kim Kardashian (in a simple white button down) -> Seth Rogen -> Lindsay Lohan -> Sarah Jessica Parker -> Mike Tyson (who whispered something — maybe nothing) -> Lady GaGa (Fallon: “Be careful in those shoes”) -> Stephen Colbert (pouring $100 in pennies on the new host).

“WELCOME TO 11:30, BITCH”

In Preparation for Tonight, Here is Jimmy Fallon’s 1998 SNL Audition

tumblr_mz7or2DZ0l1rqgazeo2_r1_500

It’s looking like a big week for NBC—a phrase you haven’t heard in the last decade or so—as the network prepares to launch the very first episode of the highly anticipated Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon… tonight, February 17th. Also important to keep in mind that it’s not just a new host, it’s also a new locale as the show returns to New York City after nearly 42 years on the West Coast. “This is where it should be,” Fallon told The New York Times. “It’s electric here. It’s the trendsetting city. It’s the most alive city in the world.”

Starting week one with a strong line up, Will Smith and musical guest U2 are set to inaugurate tonight’s show, and it only gets better from there. Tomorrow will be big, with Jerry Seinfeld, Kristen Wiig, and musical guest Lady Gaga. Wednesday won’t be too shabby with Bradley Cooper and musical guest Tim McGraw. THURSDAY is a thousand times yes: First Lady Michelle Obama, Will Ferrell, and musical guest Arcade Fire. Lastly, Friday comes in a bit predictable (but the good kind of predictable) with Fallon and his bestest pal Justin Timberlake kicking back and swapping stories (as we imagine they do every day off your television sets).

In honor of Jimmy’s first night, we take a look back at the audition (and Adam Sandler impression) that started it all:

Good luck tonight, Jimmy (because he’s reading this).

Gaga, Eminem, Arcade Fire Innagurate the YouTube Music Video Awards

youtube_music_awards_2013

Youtube is facing the music — changing times, changing market — and is thus launching the first (annual?) YouTube Music Video Awards. The November 3rd  award show, produced by filmmaker Spike Jonze, will include performances and collaborations staged all around the world from cities like Seoul to Moscow, London to Brazil, all culminating in a live event at New York City’s Pier 36. Among the headliners are art pop-tress Lady Gaga,  Eminem, and Arcade Fire with Jason Schwartzman MCing. “The whole night should feel like a YouTube video itself,” Jonze said in a statement. “We’re getting together a group of amazing artists and filmmakers to do this live — tune in to see what happens live.” So how does it work? YouTube will announce nominations Oct. 17th, based on global music video views and shares amassed over the past year. The winners will be voted by the site’s users by sharing across social media. Check out the first preview:

‘Art Policeman’ Adam Levine Sparks Feud With Lady Gaga

That’s how it all begin, with Levine airing out his ugh-frustrations, calling out an unnamed fellow artist and sparking questions as to who he was directing this at.

Another day, another tweet. So who’s whipping up this secret extra sauce? And more importantly, what are they putting said sauce on? It all remained in a mythical Twitter fog until, enter Gaga…

The art police could not be reached for comment.

Gaga, you want to weigh in?

Levine, the last word, if you will:

The VMA’s: Gaga Makes Good. Rihanna Spills Popcorn. Plus: Miley, Eminem, & Beetlejuice?

miley-cyrus-robin-thicke-vma-650a-640x423The VMA’s landed in Brooklyn last night (first time) for an action-packed two-and-a-half hour ode to artists, musicianship, and some dude named Austin Mahone. Gaga opened the hostless show, successfully placing the kabosh on recent backlash (for the moment), with a powerful career-spanning performance/fantasia of her new single Applause. Jared Leto rocked long hair. Miley Cyrus danced (DANCED) with Beetlejuice. Daft Punk wore the helmets. Taylor Swift had the best night of her life ever. NSYNC reunited for thirty seconds. So did 4/5’s of Danity Kane. Kim Kardashian’s baby’s father had the best performance of the night according to Kardashian. Rihanna (who skipped the red carpet altogether) pricelessly spilled popcorn on her friend’s lap. Katy Perry performed her “biggest song ever,” Bruno Mars sang his little face off, and Lil’ Kim was there, too (seriously). The surviving members of TLC, T-Boz and Chilli, were on hand to introduce Drake.

The live tweeting was something of its own show. Case in point: This. This. & This.

What might have gone unnoticed was a Beats X Eminem commercial subtly announcing the title and release date of his upcoming album, MMLP2 (or The Marshall Mathers LP Pt. 2). The album will drop November 5th, but the lead single, Berzerk will drop tomorrow and was sampled briefly in the commercial seen here:

Lady Gaga Releases Cover Art for Upcoming Lead Single

The road to Gaga continues to grow shorter and shorter as the famed singer readies the release of her third studio LP, ARTPOP. The album, which will be available in physical and digital forms as well as an application developed her her own team, dubbed TechHaus, was given in an official release date November 11, 2013. In a statement, The Haus of Gaga revealed, “The app itself is a musical and visual engineering system that combines music, art, fashion, and technology with a new interactive worldwide community – “the auras”. Altering the human experience with social media, we bring ART culture into POP in a reverse Warholian expedition.” Gleen from that what (little) you will.

The Haus of Gaga has a slew of collaborators tied to the project including Gaga’s pal and frequent collaborator, Terry Richardson, said to be working on a documentary chronicling the creation of ARTPOP. Additionally, Dutch fashion photographer duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, avant-garde stage director Robert Wilson, performance artist Marina Abramović, and artist Jeff Koons are all listed as contributors to an event Gaga herself will host on November 10th, titled artRave in conjunction with the album.

Gaga is currently readying to launch the album’s first single, Applause, at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards on August 25th at Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, NY. On July 26th, the singer released a promo image for the single:

She followed this up over the weekend, releasing the cover art:

The single will be available for purchase Aug 19, the day the album/app is first made available for pre-sale.

The Blonds Spring 2013 Men: How Girl-Pop's Favorite Designers Would Dress a Man

The Blonds Spring 2013 Men: How Girl-Pop's Favorite Designers Would Dress a Man

You probably know the Blonds for dressing some of the world’s most beautiful/fashionable pop stars (Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj,  Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Playboy bunniesect…) in their signature corsets and sparkly, girly things. Recently, they’ve thrown some boys looks into the mix—including a pearl and jewel print biker short and matching tank, a really cool leather shark fin hat and some sparkly speedos with a curiously positioned lipstick appliqué fashioned to the front. “We wanted the guys to be as glamorous as the girls…” say designers David and Phillipe Blond. Fair enough, and really, you might be able to pull off some of this stuff in a glamorous way, at least if you happen to have the perfect bodies of their male models. But, you probably won’t be running around town in their jewel encrusted men’s breast plate, that is, unless, you are the male version of Lady Gaga (or Adam Lambert, who was sitting front row, not far from Paris Hilton). In which case, then, you know… actually, you probably should give The Blonds a call. They love to do custom work.
