Issey Miyake Men Fall 2018 Paris Looks

Issey Miyake did not stray far from convention with its Fall 2018 presentation, but updated it with moderate tweaks that gave added a fresh asperity to the contemporary collection. Bright colors and monochromatic prints accentuated the pieces, while the designer’s distinguishable wrap detailing gave character to a collection thats strength was in its restraint.

Issey Miyake Opens First Italian Flagship

Issey MiyakeImage: Issey Miyake.

Contrast proves to be a major theme throughout the lifespan of the 1970-founded Issey Miyake brand, even in its most recent development—the kaleidoscopic Autumn/Winter 2017 menswear line walked during Paris Fashion Week—saw a clashing, colorful bacchanal cutting through elongated silhouettes. Expect this cacophonous inclination to make quite the Mediterranean splash as the brand opens its first ever Italian flagship location. Nestled within the fashion-forward streets of Milan, the store takes on a concept of “history & future” as seen through the eyes of designer Tokujin Yoshioka, the mastermind behind shop-able locations for Swarovski, Hermès, and more. With a splashier color palette than most, the store builds upon itself maze-like, each room leading to another more brightly colored than the last in an Alice in Wonderland-style journey down the rabbit hole. Honoring the historic Palazzo textures while infusing a vein of contemporary minimalism, the store encapsulates time within its walls, effectively blending both the legacy of the brand and its eclectic future.

Weekly Instagram Roundup: Issey Miyake, Drake, and more

This week’s complete social snapshot, distilled for your pleasure.

From the hottest celebrity parties to the regretful morning-after shots, ESSENTIAL HOMME‘s Weekly Instagram Roundup brings all of the hottest designer, model, and trendsetting pics from the week directly to you. After all, no one has time to scroll through anything but the best.

Issey Miyake

Issey Miyake revealed images from its upcoming Shunga collection, first seen in ESSENTIAL HOMME October/November 2016, that features the brand’s erotic portrayal of sexuality and design through the use of textiles and silhouettes, honoring one of Japan’s time-honored artistic movements.

Drake

Drake, the champagnepapi himself, challenged Taylor Swift’s previous Apple Music ad with one of his own, rocking out to “Bad Blood” while hitting the gym hard. Could this be the start of the next great Apple collab following the brand’s recent work with the iconic Paul Smith?

Cadet

Trevor Signorino certainly has had a busy week. Pictured here trying out Cadet‘s new Spring/Summer 2017 collection—the roman legion-inspired hardened collection—the it-model also jet-set to open the new Palazzo Versace hotel in Dubai on the arm of Donatella herself.

Bruce Pask

Bergdorf Goodman‘s Men’s Fashion Director Bruce Pask shared a sneak peek into the retailer’s upcoming holiday pop-up shop with these resin craft pieces, hand selected by Paul Smith himself. The beaded beauties interestingly feature the same wild color palette as the designer’s latest Spring/Summer 2017 collection.

Canali 1934

Don’t settle for anything less than magical when it comes to your accessories this season. Canali‘s latest campaign film, teased on Instagram this week, is an enchanting look at the brand’s upcoming pieces, which would appear to pair perfectly with its latest headphones release.

Wilhelmina Models

The premier modeling service Wilhelmina offered congrats to Francisco Lachowski for the birth of his new son, Laslo—his new job as dad a far cry from his devious motorcycling days in this year’s H&M Summer 2016 campaign or his dark, smoldering role in Balmain’s Spring/Summer 2016 campaign.

Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh

A car wash gone high-concept, Off-White‘s Autumn/Winter 2016 revealed a decidedly Parisian-inspired assortment of historic-esque clothes with streetwear finishes.

Issey Miyake

Fluid fabrics and warm tones starred in Issey Miyake‘s tribal yet technical Neo-nomad Autumn/Winter 2016 collection.

Louis Vuitton

Paris—both old and new—inspired Kim Jones for Louis Vuitton’s “Future Heritage” collection, a sartorial spectrum that converses of the present and the past 162 years of the French fashion house.

Opening Ceremony’s New Video for Homme Plissé Issey Miyake

Video: Opening Ceremony.

Get ready to move as Opening Ceremony releases its contribution to New York Fashion Week: Men’s, “Hallelujah Anyway.” The new men’s editorial video showcases the sporty, though still casually cool designs of Homme Plissé Issey Miyake using the backdrop of an eerily dystopian Coney Island as a real-world playground. Set to a deliciously slow-burning track – “White Iverson” by Post Malone – the Annabel Mehran-directed short utilizes the training discipline parkour, with three athletes showcasing the breathability and form of the collection. The hauntingly precise movements portray powerful masculinity in bleakly-barren frames, forcing the viewer to find a visual refuge within the athletically-inspired clothing. With gentle folds and technical pleats, both of which are synonymous to the Japanese fashion house, the line is an escape from the texture-less minimal designs of today and aims to bring a new, more understood approach to fashion, similar to the misunderstandings that accompany parkour. With soft-but-durable material, form-fitting cuts, and lightweight construction, the Miyake items become an extension of the wearer, freeing them of constraints to make the world their global playground.
