Uniqlo is releasing a capsule collection celebrating the work of influential American designers Charles and Ray Eames. The new line is the latest edition of the retailer’s Sprz NY collection, which celebrates the legacies  of New York artists and designers, and has previously featured the work of Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

The design firm, which is most recognized for its groundbreaking 20th century furniture pieces, worked directly alongside the Japanese brand on the unisex collection of clothing, slippers and blankets. Further solidifying the relationship between art and fashion, two graphic t-shirts feature arrangements of Eames’ iconic Wire chair designs, while woven pieces and slippers are adorned with printed geometric patterns emblematic of the designer’s modern and sophisticated simplicity.

The collection will be available in in select stores and online on October 12.

Gentle Monster Expands with New LA Outpost

gentle-monster-1

Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster is expanding its footprint in the US with an upcoming store in Los Angeles. While the brand made its stateside debut last year with a smaller footprint in New York, the new location in Downtown LA’s Art District is an expansive space that follows a traditional harvesting theme, showcasing the brand’s commitment to cutting edge technology, art, and emphasis on experiential store design.

Designed by Canadian-Italian film director Floria Sigismondi, who has directed music videos for Bjork, David Bowie, and Rihanna, the new store interior features several large-scale installations and kinetic sculptures throughout the space to emphasize the agricultural concept. Thousands of metallic rods by the store’s entrance represent rice, while another installation by Korean artist Jung Uk Yang is evocative of threshing, resulting in a highly-immersive autumnal shopping experience.

Gentle Monster will open October 5 at 816 S Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90014.

Isabel Marant Reveals First Menswear Looks in Paris

isabel---1

Image: Ulrich Knoblauch.

While discussion of genderless clothing continues to permeate throughout the fashion landscape, French womenswear designer Isabel Marant sent her first men’s pieces down the runway during Paris Fashion Week. The decision came after strong demand for the label, know for its classic French sophistication, to branch out into menswear, and Marant appears to be starting small – out of the 46 looks in the SS18 collection, 8 were menswear. Each look for the show was cut using the same fabrics and pattern as the womenswear, with only slight adjustments to fit the male frame. The collection itself was a vibrant spectacle, featuring heavy knitwear and sportswear-influenced jackets and trousers.

Take a look at the Isabel Marant’s menswear debut below.

While the pastel overtones of the duo’s previous collection radiated West Coast chill, the darker hues of the fall collection establish an urban tone with seasonal balance.
