Balenciaga Gets Logo Makeunder

Balenciaga, which has been under the helm of fashion disruptor and head designer of Vetements Demna Gvasalia since 2015, revealed a drastic logo rebrand on Instagram last night. The new minimal look — a bold, condensed, all-caps font against a grey backdrop — is inspired by the utilitarian and objective look of public transportation signage. “The result is a visually shortened logo which gives a simple, bold stamp to the timeless deluxe Balenciaga signature,” the brand said in a statement.
The effort is the latest example of Gvasalia’s signature logo manipulation, as seen in the brand’s reinterpretations of the Bernie Sanders’ iconography featured in the FW18 collection, and the controversial Ikea-inspired bag released earlier this year. The makeover comes ahead of the designer’s SS18 show on Sunday, adding more hype to one of the most highly-anticipated shows of the season.
