LCM: Reviewing Jimmy Choo SS15

Escaping the quaint boundaries of its own comfortable neighborhood of Mayfair, London, Jimmy Choo‘s Spring/Summer 2015 collection aimed “to capture what it means to live in this city,” and in doing so, took us on quite an adventure.

Elegant white-soled hiking boots trekked alongside combat boots at eye level, as the audience was invited to journey with the urban nomad on an elevated catwalk for the British brand’s new season. Denim—a symbol of today’s urban uniform—was alluded to throughout the show, and the raised soles and rubberized sport details in the footwear collection certainly helped to reinforce this for some of the more classic styles. While the craftsmanship that the label’s namesake and founder has been known for was still present—luxury leathers appeared hand-finished with artisanal touches—for SS15 it was obvious that his youthful following was carefully considered. Experiment was observed in Choo’s new styles and materials, a progression perhaps most easiest to recognize in the Belgravia High Top rework, a contemporary new setting of the sneaker in a gold patent, airbrushed sunset, and aqua mix.

Overall, the uncomplicated, classic silhouettes Jimmy Choo has been known for were still very much alive and worked together with newer pieces in a story that documented the varied journey of the daring wearer.
