Some of the Best Fits from the 2020 Grammy Awards

Billie Eilish showed off her supervillain style, Tyler the Creator went full camp (again), and a new wave of gay cowboys were some of the highlights at music’s biggest night. Here are some of the best outfits from last night’s ceremony.

One of Tyler’s most compelling talents is the ability to take such familiar references, like the Andy Warhol wig he donned for most of 2019 as part of his IGOR era (the album won the award for Best Rap Album) or this Grand Budapest Hotel-inspired bellhop suit, and completely warp them into something entirely original. Enter the era of Tyler, the Auteur.

The 18-year old’s breakout hit “Bad Guy” was up for some of the biggest awards of the night, including Song and Record of the Year (it won both), so she honored this by literally dressing like a glammed-up Batman villain — being bad never looked so good.

Billie Eilish’s co-writer, brother, and general behind-the-scenes mastermind stepped out in a festive yet elegant suit. The oversized bow-tie is a nice touch.

This look perfectly encapsulates the blurry and exciting trend of men’s suits, balancing traditional tailoring with the avant-garde.

Note to everyone: THIS is how a suit should fit. With a pop of color and a seamless fit, Shawn cements his place as a menswear icon.

Decked out in sequins and leather fringe, Orville Peck represents the next era of gay cowboys.

Decked out in studs and a pink harness, Lil Nas X also represents the next era of gay cowboys.

Even when he’s wearing a suit with sparkly slides, Iggy still looks like he could he beat you up.

The Ten Best Songs of 2019

2019 was a great year for music. With career bests from cult artists like Lana del Rey and FKA Twigs to an artistic reinvention from hip-hop’s favorite troublemaker Tyler the Creator, we’ve rounded up the best songs of 2019. Read on.

10. Don’t Start Now – Dua Lipa

Two years ago, Dua Lipa enlightened the world with a few crucial rules for dealing with heartbreak and pestering exes. Today, head of the release of her sophomore album, she remains as alluring and confident as ever, once again gifting us with this disco-tinted kiss-off that put her charisma and husky vocals at the center.

9. Lights Up – Harry Styles

The beloved fashion muse, and one of the only former One Direction members to avoid the post-boy-band slump, Harry Styles continues to echo the rock legends of the ’70s. Sexual ambiguity, drug-fueled dancing, partial nudity, and existential lyrics all complement this groovy R&B number that further demonstrates his undeniable star power.

8. Eye in the Wall – Perfume Genius

Where most artists are cutting song lengths down to increase streamability (that’s a thing to consider these days), Perfume Genius released a sprawling, genre-crossing conceptual dance song with choreographer Kate Wallich and dance company The YC.

7. Motivation – Normani

The second former Fifth Harmony member to go solo, Normani dropped the best song of 2004. Co-written with Ariana Grande, the catchy “Motivation” seamlessly hits that sonic sweet spot of retro and fresh.

6. Señorita – Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello

Some songs are just formulaically designed to be chart-toppers and this steamy collaboration nailed it — simple production, instantly learnable chorus, and flirty back-and-forth made this the song of the summer.

5. True Blue – Mark Ronson feat. Angel Olsen

Mark Ronson’s new album Late Night Feelings was all about making “sad bangers,” and this is no better encapsulated than by this longing tune that captures the dancefloor sadness of knowing you’re going home alone.

4. Gone – Charli XCX feat. Christine and the Queens

Charli XCX remains the best pop architect of today. Her talent for simplistic but innovative songcraft and eye for interesting collaborations are on full display in this synth-pop masterpiece.

3. EARFQUAKE – Tyler, the Creator

This song was allegedly pitched to both Rihanna and Justin Bieber who both turned it down. A blessing, since no one could do the strange tune justice more than Tyler himself, in all his Pop Art, Andy-Warhol-cosplay glory.

2. Mirrored Heart – FKA Twigs

The only song more devastating than FKA Twigs’ comeback single”Cellophane,” “Mirrored Heart” proves that no one handles heartbreak with more poise than she does.

1. Norman F*cking Rockwell – Lana del Rey

After years of dealing with music press eager to see her fail, Lana del Rey showed them all and finished the year with a bang. The title track from her latest and most highly-acclaimed album flaunts her lyrical abilities against ’60s inspired production, solidifying her status as one of the best new cultural icons to emerge this decade.

Golf le Fleur* and Converse Embrace the Chunky Sneaker

The latest release from the ongoing collaboration between Converse and Tyler the Creator’s brand Golf le Fleur* might be its biggest yet. This time around, hip-hop’s most prominent aesthete, known for his soft pastels and cartoon graphics, added volume to a new Converse style: the Gianno. Pulling influences from sportswear, most notably hiking and basketball, the Gianno shoe is engineered with mesh, suede, and leather for a luxe exterior. While the outer appearance of the sneaker pulls from Converse’s basketball series from the ’90s, the chunky aesthetic remains as popular as ever. Inside, the shoe is embedded with a midfoot shank, a technical detail that helps provide balance while ascending — a feature most commonly seen in hiking gear.

The Converse x Golf le Fleur Gianno sneaker is available online now.

Now You Can Dress like Tyler, the Creator’s IGOR for Halloween

Since its release earlier this summer, IGOR has been hailed as Tyler, the Creator’s magnum opus. Inspired major ’80s influences, the artist adopted a Warhol-esque alter ego, complete with a blonde wig and brightly colored suit, on the record’s artwork and in subsequent promotional materials and performances. IGOR is more than a concept album, it’s a full reinvention. And now fans of the record in search of a simple but culturally relevant costume can get the look themselves since he released three costume options inspired by the titular character.

The bulk of the costume consists of a two-piece suit (available in neon green, baby blue, and color-blocked red and pink option) and the distinct blonde wig. For extra flair, two pins that say ‘VOTE IGOR’ are included. It’s an easy enough costume that most people will get, and honestly, you could probably get more than one wear out of the suit too.

The IGOR costume is available online now.

Supreme x Lacoste Release Fall 2019 Collab

The latest drop from the ongoing fall collaboration between Supreme and Lacoste arrives this week. Taking cues from Lacoste’s preppy country-club aesthetic and injecting them with Supreme’s New York skater grit, the newest collection is a sophisticated effort that’s heavy on branding. Some of the highlights from the latest drop include a series of Harrington jackets with sherpa collars, replete with a branded graphic on the back that features both brand names encircling Lacoste’s distinct crocodile logo. Other standouts include a bold pinstripe cardigan and some simple printed hoodies. Supreme’s recent collection inspired by The Velvet Underground launched last week and earlier this year Lacoste released a collaboration with Tyler the Creator’s brand Golf le Fleur.

The Supreme x Lacoste Fall 2019 collection will be available online on September 26.

The New Converse x Golf le Fleur* Shoes Have Colored Foxing

After releasing his first Billboard No. 1 album and a massively successful collection with Lacoste, Tyler, the Creator is back again with a new mini-capsule with Converse. The new Colorblock range uses his signature all-white Golf le Fleur* sneaker (complete with a flower logo detail) and enhances the clean style with a color-taping accent available in red and green. Earlier this summer Tyler released a Pride inspired shoe with Converse which featured a rainbow accent on the taping, so this is more of a stripped-back yet bold look that Golf le Fleur* has become known for.

The Converse x Golf le Fleur* Colorblock collection will be out on August 3rd at Converse and GolfWang.com.

Blood Orange’s New Mixtape is Here

Ahead of opening for Tyler, the Creator on his international tour and following last year’s acclaimed Negro Swan, Blood Orange teased an unofficial follow-up (“somewhat of an epilogue,” he said in a statement) to the album earlier this week. Out today, Angel’s Pulse is a collab-heavy and deeply personal project that the musician and former EH cover star recorded and produced entirely himself. Some of the artists featured on the record include Brockhampton, Toro y Moi, Justine Skye, Arca, Porches, and Tinashe.

Listen to the album now.

Check out the Lacoste x Golf Le Fleur* Pastel Collection

With the new Lacoste and Golf Le Fleur* collection dubbed GOLF le COSTE*, preppy is cool again. The collection includes a variety of 80s tennis inspired garments including tracksuits, classic Lacoste polos, t-shirts, and shorts.

Pastels are the dominant theme of the collection, including pink, baby blue, earthy brown, and an off-white tone that embodies brand founderTyler the Creator’s typical aesthetic. A combined logo for the collection takes Lacoste’s standard logo and adds “Golf” inside the crocodile’s body along with it holding a poppy flower between its teeth. The accessories in the collection include two bucket hats and socks because it is Tyler after all — a standout key piece is the varsity jacket, made with wool and leather that anchors the earthy motif of the overall range.

Golf le COSTE* drops on July 17th online.
