Ahead of its Spring/Summer 2020 collection, New York-based label Private Policy has released a limited-edition capsule collection. Inspired by the checkerboard print that has become a staple for the brand, the PIXEL collection skews the signature print with playful fervor that reminds me of those DIY rave posters from the ’90s. Some key items from the drop include a flowy viscose button downs, matching cyber-punk-inspired biker shorts, and a printed baseball cap with an added hoop detail that’s also available in rainbow print — it is pride month after all. And perfect timing for a brand that considers nightlife such an integral part of its design process.
The Private Policy PIXEL collection is available online now with more drops to be released throughout the summer. Check out some pictures (shot by Harvey Lee) below and read our interview with the designers here.
Few artists have been able to seamlessly merge the world’s of fashion and pop as effortlessly as one Stefani Germanotta, aka pop savant Lady Gaga. And while the artist has returned to Las Vegas to continue her acclaimed residency, ENIGMA at Park MGM — she took a bit of a hiatus to win an Oscar and tease her upcoming sixth album — fans can rejoice with an accompanying exhibition of her most iconic looks throughout her decade-spanning career.
Curated in part by her longtime collaborator Nicola Formichetti, HAUS OF GAGA/LAS VEGAS is an intimate look at some of the artist’s most indelible looks. Each of the pieces — including full looks from music videos, world tours, and various media appearances — was plucked from a temperature-regulated vault in California that preserves their legacy. Some highlights include the infamous cigarette sunglasses (as seen in the ‘Telephone‘ video), the meat dress (which she wore during the 2010 VMAs), the all-white bodysuit she donned during her career-making ‘Paparazzi‘ performance in 2009, and the Philip Treacy-designed rhinestone-covered lobster hat (just worn on a night out in London). Whether you’re a lifetime fan or just someone who appreciates striking design, there’s something to catch your eye in this pop culture time capsule.
A select number of pieces will be available for purchase with proceeds going towards the Born This Way Foundation, a non-profit co-founded by Gaga that promotes mental health awareness for youth. Check out some of the pieces below.
Fresh from hosting the 2019 Met Gala, newly appointed Camp king Harry Styles is back in a new Gucci Tailoring campaign. Shot by famed director Harmony Korine, the latest image series captures the former One Direction-er and some animal friends in some surreal-ish backdrops furnished with antiques and oddities — the setting says Grey Gardens, but the immaculate tailoring and whimsical color scheme give off a Wes Anderson vibe. And in an accompanying video, Korine’s signature grainy camerawork only enhances the overall opulent absurdism.
Styles’ relationship with Gucci is a strong one — he most recently attended the Met Gala with the Italian label’s creative director and fellow co-host Alessandro Michele — and he starred in last year’s campaign, which was shot in a fish shop in London. Check out the video below.
Celebrating the anniversary of the invention of Levi’s signature 501 styles — which debuted 146 years ago, wow — the all-American denim label partnered with Heron Preston on a limited range of 501 jeans that infuse a street edge to the timeless pants.
The two styles — in men’s and women’s styles, respectively — flaunt Preston’s signature DIY ethic, with tie-dye wash, frayed patches, and a drawstring-turned-belt that screams Downtown cool. The designer’s trademark brand patch is also featured, and the orange tint of the wash hearkens back to the Life of Pablo days. (Preston was a creative consultant to Kanye West’s highly acclaimed record and helped design some of the tour merch before the rapper went off the deep end. Simpler times.) He also stars alongside Haley Bieber in the first-ever dedicated 501 campaign. Here’s hoping to a more expansive collab in the future.
The Levi’s® x Heron Preston 501® Day Collection is available in select Levi’s stores worldwide now.
This week in sneakers: Italian footwear designer Giuseppe Zanotti has cast hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd in a campaign for its newest limited-edition sneaker. The Blabber sneaker range boasts a minimal but luxurious design — monochromatic styles are available in textured snakeskin leather, black canvas, or a subtle tartan print, with an exposed zipper detail embellishing the shoe’s spine. The utilitarian design is a contrast to the dynamic energy of the chart-topping group, but that’s the point — the simplicity only amplifies the wearer’s own charisma.
The Blabber FW19 collection is available in select stores and online now. Check out the video campaign below.
The latest output from the ongoing Raf Simons x Adidas sneaker collab is a futuristic take on the Glam Rock theme from Simons’ recent SS19 collection. The RS OZWEEGO is updated with reflective soles that evoke Y2K trend of the early aughts, while the brighter primary colorways in smooth leather echo the main inspiration from the collection. It might be a more subtle interpretation of the flashy rock genre made famous by David Bowie and Elton John, but the sneakers are still cool in a cyber-wave kinda way.
The RS OZWEEGO will be available in select stores and online starting May 23.
After making their debut during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris, the Valentino x Birkenstock sandals are available now. By using Birkenstock’s popular Arizona style, the Italian label updated the footwear with designer branding, embellishing the leather footwear with a bold ‘VLTN’ stamp — basically the perfect marriage of style and comfort.
Diggy Simmons, rapper, actor (catch him on grown-ish) and offspring of Rev Simmons of Run DMC, is on the come-up. After the release of his dreamy new single ‘It is What it is’, the 23-year old has his sight set on the fashion world, recently walking in the Converse show earlier this month. While Simmons has always had an interest in clothes (“I’ve been into clothing since I could remember,” he tells me via email), working with such an iconic American brand seemed a perfect fit. “The Chuck Taylor is possibly the most most popular sneaker silhouette of all times. So many designers have tried to emulate but people will always go back to the source.” He’s right — designers like Dior and Comme des Garçons among many others have routinely created their own versions of the sneaker. He really wants to walk and get involved with Dries Van Noten, though. And in terms of personal style, he cites Pharrell and Stefano Pilati as his biggest influences.
Watch the video for his single below and stay tuned for the release of his upcoming album.
So…ask yourself…isn’t it time to venture beyond, uh…Bed Bath and Beyond. OK. Sure, yes, they do a good job at providing utilitarian storage products for the average, every day guy, but because you’ve got a little more than the commonplace happening in your closet don’t you want a little something extra to keep it all tidy. Namely, the kind of sharp, luxe wood hangers you notice when you’re staying in high end hotels or perusing the racks at the world’s best men’s shops. Chances are said hangers come from a company called Butler Luxury and after 20 years of ruling the retail/hospitality thing, they’ve recently branched out to the consumer market. We’ve been the proud owner of their suit hanger for a little while now and our suiting has never looked happer, or spiffier. Here’s why: Each of their hangers are inspired by the craftsmanship on Saville row and meticulously made (like furniture they say) with a weighty Grade A beech wood— basically, like placing your stressed out suiting on a hanger made of ibuprofen, with three sizes to choose from (18, 16.5 and 15 inch lengths to accompany the sizes and shapes of all men). The extra thick trouser rod is covered in velvet and guarantees no creasing. You can choose hangers for suits, coats, trousers or shirts from the dark matte espresso or polished deep butterscotch to upgrade closet but, what you cannot chose, anywhere, is a better hanger. Purchase information after the jump.
If you’re going to star as Neil Caffrey in the hit-series White Collar, described as debonair, charismatic, and suave, looking like a schlub off set is probably a no go. No bother for Matt Bomer, though, who’s taking his affinity for bespoke menswear to the next level, designing and hand selecting an entire collection for Alton Lane, including tailored accessories, bespoke suiting, and shirting fabrics. If you’re not familiar with White Collar — first question being: why? — Bomer plays con man Neil Caffrey, and would you believe it, his character knows a thing or two about how to dress. In fact he’s so styling that Gilt wanted in on the action as well. And so it was. Or will be. This Tuesday, January 22nd, beginning at 12PM the “Caffrey Collection” will go on sale for 36 hours, and feature exclusive ties, bowties and pocket squares ($29-69) and the opportunity to purchase bespoke suit and shirt packages. The suit packages ($2,000-$2,995) and three shirt package ($425) will be available for seven days. Separate from the collection, but included in the sale, will be tailored apparel and accessories from like menswear brands including Thomas Pink, Mr. Brown by Duckie Brown, Hickey, and Simon Spurr. But wait, there’s actually more. Gilt will debut an exclusive editorial spread featuring Bomer in select Alton Lane products AND offer a complimentary Alton Lane custom pocket square, designed by Bomer himself, to the first 500 Gilt member who visit the sale. Make that 499, as we’ll like be first in line. Capping off the marvelousness: 10% of the sale proceeds, as well as from customers who make an additional purchase from any of Alton Lane’s stores in New York, D.C., and Boston, will go to Project A.L.S., a national organization which Bomer is closely involved, funding research for what many know as Lou Gehrig’s disease. To put this all in perspective: Matt Bomer is styling, and now you can look, err, dress like he does, at a discount (thanks Gilt!), all the while making a charitable donation. Is it Tuesday yet?
