milan mens fashion week fall 2020

A Quick Roundup of Milan Fall 2020 Men’s Looks

With Prada’s innovative set design that reinforced its geometric presentation, Gucci’s new interpretation of art-school-cool, and Iceberg making its return to the fashion capital, we highlight some key looks from Fall 2020 in Milan.

FENDI

Silvia Fendi commissioned Kunihiko Morinaga, the designer behind Tokyo-based label Anrealage which was shortlisted for the LVMH Prize last year, to help with the collection. The result of this collaboration was most evident with the abundance of dual-texture jackets, but a series of chunky rubber rainboots and updates to the Italian label’s bag line were a welcome surprise.

PRADA

Geometric patterns were the star of the show, from the spatial set design to the numerous prints that were prominently featured on a series of sweater vests paired with tailored trousers. The designer experimented with proportions, with exaggerated coat lapels adding a new dimension to the classic jacket styles.

GUCCI

Vintage-inspired looks in cropped and oversized fits, ripped jeans, and traditional tailoring were a whimsical update to collegiate cool. If Yorgos Lanthimos ever made a movie about an art school, this is what they would wear.

ICEBERG

Making its return to Milan’s fashion schedule, Iceberg incorporated a number of recent trends — most notably side bags and fanny packs — into its rave-inspired sportswear.

A COLD WALL

The designer had an ambitious inspiration for Fall 2020 — the history of human evolution. However, the collection was a nuanced and brilliantly crafted series of looks that handled the subject matter with ease by balancing an earthy color palette with sharp cuts and subtle yet effective fabric techniques.

Marni Men’s SS19 Artist Collaborations

A relationship with the art world has always been important for the inspiration behind Marni. For Spring/Summer 2019, the Italian label collaborated with artists Florian Hetz and Betsy Podlach. Centering around the nude body and celebrating the intimacy of the human form, the two artists highlight the elegance of the natural body.

German photographer Florian Hetz envisions the sculptural strength of the human form through a series of intimate close-ups. For the collection, the beautifully raw photographs are combined with various color-block collages and imprinted on a collection of baseball jackets and t-shirts.

American artist Betsey Podlach shows the emotional strength and romance within the flesh and body through proximity and negative space. In the collection, these visions are seen on wraparound garments made of soft toweling or juxtaposed with Hetz’ visions that create a harmonious contrast of narratives.

The collection will be available in all Marni boutiques and online in December. Take a look at some of the pieces below.

Stutterheim x Marni Release Third Collaborative Collection

Swedish outerwear brand Stutterheim has once again teamed up with Marni for a third collaborative collection. The Scandinavian label previously teamed up with Marni last year, and has also had collaborations with others brands such as Alpha, Novesta, and Band of Outsiders.

In the latest effort, Stutterheim’s signature raincoat gets a sleek update. Available in two different coat lengths, the onyx raincoats come in rubberized cotton uniquely detailed with yellow stitching. The bright stitching seen throughout the seams and pockets add a pop off color to the otherwise monochromatic coat. Additionally, a matte black band is present in between the shoulders adding a subtle contrast of materials on the back of the jacket.

The collection is available online now for $990-$1,100

Marni offers a wonderland of lost and found objects for Fall/Winter 2018 season. Casual outerwear like puffer jackets, rain-boots, and gym bags are contrasted with tweed suits, button-downs, and ties. Light terra cotta and black colors prevail in the underpinnings while more opulent colors serve as pattern and decoration. The Italian label was inspired by a childlike imagination of hand-drawn prints like monkeys and bead accessories. Even the venue was filled with vacuum cleaners, televisions, stuffed toys, bumper cars, old suitcases, and other items in lieu of seats for the guests. With the latest collection, Marni confirmed that printed jackets, bucket hats, and chunky shoes are still a trend to watch.

‘Becoming Marni’ Exhibit Featuring Véio Opens in Venice

06 - BECOMING MARNIImage: Marni.

Italian luxury brand Marni celebrates its 20th anniversary this week with the opening of its Venice Biennale-timed “Becoming Marni” exhibition; a site-specific installation featuring 100 wooden sculptures created by Brazilian artist Véio and distributed inside and outside of the San Gregorio Abbey in Venice, drawing a fantastical landscape of organic forms.

01 - BECOMING MARNIImage: Marni.

03 - BECOMING MARNIImage: Marni.

Véio gives new life to pieces of wood, clogs, and branches that he finds along the river of his native village in the north east of Brazil. Upon gathering, he immediately identifies a creature in each piece; an animal, a resting human, or a fantastic bird. After clipping, shaving, and adding color, Véio restores meanings that exceed the pure physicality of the wooden forms. Documented on film by Italian artists Tellas and Roberto Ciredz, Véio’s unique artistic process will be shown in a room inside the Abbey as an integral part of the exhibition. The relationship between the Brazilian artist and Marni stems from the fact that both explore the power of transformation and strive for the assertive presence of pure form. According to a representative for the brand, “Marni has found in Véio a champion of the same values.”

“Becoming Marni” is on view until November 22, 2015 at Abbazia di San Gregorio, Dorsoduro 172, Venezia.

Watch: Marni’s AW14 Video Installation

 Video: Marni.

Are you suffering the post-Milan blues? Well we are (we had such little time together!), but with the new video installation from Marni, our torture seems slightly more earth-toned than aquatic. Originally released at the Italian fashion house’s Autumn/Winter 2014 presentation, the film—starring Elvis Jankus and Matvey Lykov—was projected onto angled panels, allowing for a new way to experience a men’s line in the context of movement and space. See it for yourself above, and watch the pain away!

A Look Into the Colorful World of Marni

07 - Book MARNI UOMO

Known for its colored prints and stylish knitwear, Marni has developed well beyond its years, pushing against the traditionalist view and definition of what Fashion is within contemporary society. From season to season, the sophistication and creativity by Marni grows and is now not only captured by each collection, but through a photograph book into their progression. During the fall 2013, Carolina Castiglioni, the head of special projects for Marni spoke out, explaining that “the clothing dictated the direction and aesthetic: the tension between convention and rebellion, classicism and subversion.”Castiglioni has partnered with art director, Dean Langley and photographer, Clare Shilland, to establish a story reflecting the forthcoming collection. Shilland proudly announced the brand further, stating that”These projects help narrate the collection in an alternative way, and help reflect its spirit”

Starting on Sunday 19th of May from 6pm, the fall collection will be available along with the release of Marni’s photograph book, Marni Uomo, which has printed only a limited quantity. The anticipated book will be available for purchase at Marni.com and at the launch held at Marni’s boutique in New York’s Meatpacking District. The boutique will also launch a limited edition printed T-shirt, created and designed by art director Dean Langely.
