Rami Malek Saint Laurent

Rami Malek is the New Face of Saint Laurent

Known for his roles in Mr. Robot and Bohemian RhapsodyRami Malek is now the face of Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2020 men’s campaign. The actor’s involvement with the brand is officiated with series of black-and-white shots captured by frequent collaborator and photographer David Sims. Directed by the brand’s own Anthony Vaccarello, Malek sports the latest collection, which features an array of slim-cut trousers, military-inspired pieces, boleros, tailored jeans, and sequins.

The Egyptian-American actor landed his first fashion campaign in 2017 when he was the face of then, Dior Homme (now known as Dior Men). He follows in the footsteps of Travis Scott and Keanu Reeves who have previously posed for Saint Laurent’s stoic campaigns. The actor also recently wore a look by the designer, naturally, to the 2020 Golden Globe Awards where he was nominated for Best Actor.

Saint Laurent’s Chiaroscuro-Inspired Spring 2020 Collection

Saint Laurent just revealed its Spring 2020 collection under the artistic direction of Anthony Vaccarello shot on the American West Coast by director Nathalie Canguilhem. The featured short-film depicts a dramatic opposition between light and dark, day and night, and black and white for the first half of the roll. Models strut down dark highways in classic Saint Laurent-black head to toe contrasted by entirely white pool days. While the night ready-to-wear is provocative and tailored, the day whites are playful with feathers, silks, and oversized accessories. The two then collide when nightwear enters daylight and colors come alive with bright blues from the poolside and green from trees. One model featured even sports dusty pink hair. To remind the viewer of the brand, the video ends with a model laying on a YSL flower-adorned float across a pool.

Take a Look at the Saint Laurent Winter ’19 Campaign

For the latest Saint Laurent campaign, Anthony Vaccarello worked with Juergen Teller on a series of remarkable poolside images. The creatives cast supermodels Freja Beha Erichsen and Kiki Willems alongside the scene-stealing Allie the monkey — according to her decorated IMDB page, Allie featured in the 2016 rom-com The Perfect Match before pivoting towards all the glitz and glamor of high-fashion. Can you blame her?

Saint Laurent Introduces its NUXX Line

Expanding upon its noteworthy accessories assortment, Saint Laurent has launched a new range of functional products for men. Out now, the NUXX line is a limited range of the designer’s bags and other compact accessories made out of nylon for durability. Despite the material switch, the collection of pieces retains the label’s signature rocker edge, with minimal branding incorporated into the monochromatic range. Some highlights include a duffle bag, a clutch, a fanny pack, and a wallet with a chain — see for yourself in the image above.

The NUXX line is available in select stores and online now.

Saint Laurent Opens First Flagship Store in Beijing

A month after opening its flagship in Shanghai (the designer’s first in China), Saint Laurent has unveiled a new outpost in Beijing. Housed in the lavish China World Mall within the larger China World Hotel, the new store maintains the same modern and sleekness of its other locations.

Spread across two levels, the interior combines elements of French modernism, Art Deco, and the designer’s signature urban grit as seen by Anthony Vaccarello. Marble wall accents, stainless steel steps, and leather and nickel-plated brass benches furnish the open interior, which is a postmodern dream fit for a rockstar — just look at the pictures below. Since it opened in 2017, China World Mall has been redefining the mall shopping experience, and as the home of one of only two Saint Laurent stores in the country, it’s already a must-see if you’re in the area.

Saint Laurent is open now at South China World Mall, No. 1 Jian Guomenwai Avenue, Beijing, China.

Keanu Reeves is a Saint Laurent Dream

Elusive and iconic actor Keanu Reeves has won the world over with his mysterious nature and appearances in modern classics like My Own Private Idaho and The Matrix. Ahead of his new John Wick film (out May 17) comes an even more ambitious role for the 54-year old actor: the face of Saint Laurent‘s Fall ’19 menswear line. Under the artistic direction of Anthony Vaccarello, Reeves poses for three stark and statuesque black-and-white portraits (shot by David Sims), decked out in the designer’s latest line. With his brooding good looks and aloof charm, it’s simply the role he was born to play.

Saint Laurent Orchestrates Neon Spectacle for Fall ’19

Saint Laurent is a rock star brand. Ever since Hedi Slimane was appointed as creative director of the French house in 2011, it’s routinely referenced decades of rock subgenres — punk, garage, new wave, the list goes on — and, in turn, become a favorite of the celebrities it idolizes. It’s a truly symbiotic relationship that has worked seamlessly and the latest effort proves no different, with current creative director Anthony Vaccarello embracing the spectacle of the show for its Fall 2019 presentation beneath the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

Vaccarello has led the brand since 2016 and seemed committed to continuing what was started. Saint Laurent’s clothing remains as sleek, slim, and trendy as ever, with one showstopping piece to leave a lasting impression (remember the heart coat?), but previous collections have seemed more like preservation than reinterpretation. However, this season saw a subtle departure from the ultra-skinny tailoring that’s become synonymous with Slimane and, as a result, the label. For the womenswear, shoulders were broader and dresses were looser. The menswear retained many of the signatures (skinny, but breathable tailoring and ’80s influences anchored by a predominantly black color palette). The specter of Slimane remains, but this collection showed Vaccarello ready to reinterpret the pieces in his own way while maintaining its legacy. This was evident in the show’s celebratory final act, which featured models marching down a runway illuminated by blacklight that highlighted several neon looks, which could either be seen as a victory lap or a call for an encore. Guess we’ll find out next season.

Check out some of the looks below.

A Look at Anthony Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent Debut in New York

2
Images: Saint Laurent.

On a Wednesday night in June, Anthony Vaccarello transformed New Jersey State Park into a sleek runway for his debut men’s collection for Saint Laurent, and the label’s first presentation in the city. His appointment as creative director comes after the departure of Hedi Slimane — who will soon launch Céline’s first menswear line — who reinvented the brand with ultra-skinny silhouettes and rockstar fervor before stepping down in 2016. Vaccarello delivers a promising first collection, following in Slimane’s footsteps and injecting the Spring 2019 collection with the opulence of the 70s, no doubt something he grew a taste for during his time at Versus Versace. To really drive the point home, Lennon Gallagher (son of Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher) was made the face of the brand earlier this year.

The collection combined cues from the 70’s with classic Americana motifs to deliver a shimmering debut. High-waisted flared trousers balanced the ultra-skinny jeans that have become near synonymous with the brand, which were updated in shimmering fabrics. Western influences were sprinkled throughout the collection, with embroidered with rhinestone-like embellishments and the occasional bandana, while the overall slim tailored silhouette anchored the collection and kept it firmly urban. An army of models donning shiny skinny trousers and coated in body glitter closed the inaugural show, which effectively carried on the name of Saint Laurent while teasing what’s to come.

Watch the show here.
