Saks’ Men’s Store in Brookfield Place is Closing Today

Another one bites the dust. Saks‘ Men’s Store in Brookfield Place will close later today, just a year after the women’s shop in the same downtown shopping center closed earlier.

The vast 16,750-square-foot store — the company’s first exclusively menswear store — opened in early 2017 and aimed to attract a downtown customer (who they identified as a cross between alternative creative-type and finance guy, apparently) different than the type that shops at the store’s Fifth Avenue location. Despite the sudden closure, Saks will retain the space and has plans to unveil a new retail initiative later this year. With major retailers struggling to determine a new model to appeal to the modern shopper, we’re likely to witness a few more bumps in the road as retailers attempt to adapt to the new decade.

“With this branch location, we determined that our customers’ preferred shopping experience is a combination of our digital channels and our iconic Fifth Avenue flagship, where we have created an unparalleled luxury shopping destination,” Hudson’s Bay Co. Inc, the retail group that owns Saks, told WWD.
