Three features rule Raf Simons’ Spring 2014 collection: short shorts, short sleeves, and black. All of his ensembles feature one of these details, and many feature more, from the one-piece polo collar jumpsuits with their cutoff arms and legs to the billowing smocks covered in logos. Mr. Simons wants his models to be unencumbered by the usual trappings of respectable dress, preferring to blur forms and gender roles in the name of comfort- and style of course. Blocks of color are mounted above pedestals of black, letters and logos are tilted sideways, there are even leotards like a circus strongman’s worn over floral print shirts. Mr. Simons makes a statement, whatever he trots out.
