Inside Berluti’s New New York Maison

It’s been a very busy year for the house of Berluti. Founded in 1985 with a talent for handcrafted boots and shoe design, throughout the decades the now-iconic Parisian brand found its footing (pardon the pun) in beautiful leather accessories and men’s ready-to-wear. Now, after the opening of its European-style dome in Paris this past November and launch of a Bespoken suit service, Berluti has brought Grande Mesure custom suiting to the good people of Manhattan. This, as well as a wallet-clutching, finger-rattling, beautiful collection of other products in a even more-beautifully wrapped present of a new Madison Avenue location.

Located at 677-679 Madison Avenue, the two-floor atelier was constructed by Gwenaël Nicolas, whose other works include both of the company’s London and Osaka outposts, as well as townhouses for Louis Vuitton, retail stores for Uniqlo, and several high-end spas. For Berluti’s New York Maison, Nicolas chose to focus on the heritage of the Parisian brand, revisiting classic Berluti codes of leather and patina finishes and incorporating historic, yet offbeat furniture (such as the Louis XV chair or Josef Frank console) to create the most sophisticated gentlemen’s club you’ve ever set your eyes on.
