“It’s about looking back to the old glamour of American style and modernizing it. Taking inspiration from yesterday’s icons but bringing something completely new. I believe that design is a mode of expressing individuality, not suppressing it, and this collection leaves room for tomorrow’s icons to be made,” says Joseph Abboud creative director Bernardo Rojo of the beautifully shot Spring 2013 ad campaign that’s just rolling out now. The Spring/Summer 2013 Campaign photo shoot took place in L.A. to coincide with the collection’s inspiration. Visual artist Nicholas Alan Cope is presented, as part of the on-going series of self-made American men. (View his film about Los Angeles on Josephabboud.com). Inspired by the light in California, artist Nicholas Alan Cope moved to Los Angeles in 2004 to study photography. His early work focused on the essential components of L.A.’s architecture and landscape and ultimately inspired Nicholas’ first-ever video piece, which he created exclusively for Joseph Abboud. Nicholas says, “I wanted to shoot L.A. in a new way, for me and for others… it’s a place where you make your own city within in a city.” To capture his unique view, Nicholas took cues from nature films and used innovative filming techniques to create a film that offers a look at Los Angeles as a living breathing landscape, as seen through the lens of a self-made artist.
