Gucci Opens New Milan Hub

Luxury fashion house Gucci opens its brand new, 35,000 square metered fashion destination in the beating heart of Milan. The new Gucci Hub, located within the Caproni aeronautical factory built in 1915, took a meticulous three years of conversion and a dedicated approach to sustainability to create fashion’s latest “center of excellence.” While the Florence location will still act as the central focal point of the historic brand, the new Milan location will house over 250 employees, as well as worldwide showrooms, fashion show venues, and graphic and photo studios in one singular location.

It is clear, from the covered plaza and exposed brick facades, that the inherently Italian integrity of the brand rings true in the new space, Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele‘s vision a bespoke compilation of artistic décor and carefully evaluated architecture. The only truly new piece stands on more than 3,000 square meters of land and rises six stories into the air – a completely glass-fronted tower. Hoping to avoid the generic, standardized workplace of many businesses today, the brand outfitted its space with pieces discovered, not mass-produced. The result is a space with personality, individuality, and a comforting atmosphere that dares the creators to craft the next fashion great. The space arrives on the heels of fellow Italian label Prada‘s own forum for fashion, Fondazione – a Milan neighbor to the Gucci Hub.

ETRO Hatches ‘The Circle of Poets’ Artist Series

Image: ETRO.

On the heels of the Italian house’s seasonal runway show, ETRO creative director Keaton Etro inducts 11 Milan-based influencers of various art forms to share their own stories. Part of a global story online (and via the brand’s social channels), the Circle of Poets series narrates each bohemian’s narrative and life in the contemporary city through rich, black and white imagery by Nicolo Gialain, one of Etro’s selected poets. From filmmaker Adalberto Lombardo to tattoo artist Edoardo Tabacchi featured—all suited up in Etro’s own wear—the project examines possibilities of expression, navigating tradition and innovation, and storytelling in general.

Prada Expands Historic Café Pasticceria Marchesi

Image: Prada.

Following its acquisition by the PRADA group last year, the famous 19th century pastry shop Pasticceria Marchesi has found a shiny new home in its just-opened flagship in via Monte Napoleone, Milan. Designed by architect and frequent Prada collaborator Roberto Baciocchi, the new locations carries the charm of 191-year-old café while also introducing an air of refinement. The entryway’s marble walls echo elements of traditional Milanese decor, as do subtle details like the marble-topped, cherry wood bar, mirror-backed shelfs reflecting classical aperitifs, and curved glass display cases.

Roman and Williams Bring REPLAY’s Milan Flagship to Life with Concept Experience

REPLAY_2014_HIRES_MATIAS SAGARIA (25)Image: REPLAY.

Harnessing the grandiose style of Hollywood magic, denim makers REPLAY looked to Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch, the creative powerhouse behind Roman and Williams Building and Interiors, to craft a cinematic retail experience for its customers. Centered in Milan’s Piazza Gae Aulenti, the multi-level store references the brand’s roots of vintage design and re-creation by featuring an environment aptly titled The Stage, which serves as a host to an ever-evolving shopping trip.

One visit your setting the vibe yourself, choosing from the brand’s library of bumping playlists to find a set that fits your mood, another you’re sampling food and wine while watching a live performance. Choose-your-own-adventure story elements were enhanced even further by both Standefer and Alesch, who drew upon their own IMDB credits (“Zoolander,” “Age of Innocence,” and “Practical Magic”) to activate a slew of movie set-quality features ranging from a swirling tornado of brass butterflies, mid-western barn, and 1920s-inspired tailor shop. Like a gripping film, nothing at REPLAY Milan finishes the same way it started.

Milan’s Armani/Nobu Restaurant Reopens with a New Design

unnamedImage: Davide Lovatti, courtesy of Armani.

Fresh off the heels of a summer break and upon the conclusion of Milan Fashion Week, Italy’s most fashionable restaurant, Armani/Nobu, has reopened with a newly-imagined interior in Milan. The redesigned space perfectly combines the understated elegance associated with the Giorgio Armani brand with the bold flavors of chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa’s cuisine. With over 200 seats in the two-story space, Armani/Nobu pairs warm beige and caramel tones with accents of red, and features a play on various textured fabrics. Elements from both Armani and Matsuhisa’s cultural backgrounds also intermingle throughout the restaurant in elements like Murano glass lamps and the re-occurring use of different types of wood. The new space provides a sophisticated atmosphere that celebrates the world of gourmet cuisine.

Etro Unveils First Sneaker Collection for Men

Next season, Etro—the iconic Italian brand and masters of print-on-print—launches its first men’s sneaker collection and the results are the unexpected mix of colors, textures, and fabrics that fans of the Milan-based design house have grown to love. The luxury brand’s inspiration behind the new footwear collection for Spring/Summer 2015 comes from the desire to create a casual shoe that incorporates the elegance and contemporary edge that the design team—headed by Creative Director Jacopo Etro—has been known for, since its inception in 1968.

Standouts from the collection include a high-top (shown above) which couples one of Etro’s signature paisley patterns with chocolate brown leather trim, an all-white paisley-embossed low style with hints of orange, and—our personal favorite—a playful, and more athletic approach that infuses lemony-yellow with navy blue and green.  The colorful and versatile collection will be part of a re-launch for Etro’s in-house footwear lines and the offerings are sure to be a hit when they arrive.

If you thought Etro‘s Spring/Summer 2015 men’s collection looked good enough to eat, then you’re right. Fueled by food, this season’s energetic cloths took inspiration from Italian painter Giuseppe Arcimboldo’s 16th century vegetable portraits and Italian banquet-style tavola imbandita dining. Go behind the table with our backstage footage from the runway show below.
