A Night To Rock: John Varvatos Launches New Converse Weapon
It’s not easy to really let loose during fashion week. Even during the weekend, the intense schedules, the back-to-back shows, the deadlines, the events and launches—it all makes it hard to really let your hair down and rock out. But if it’s a John Varvatos event, you kind of have no choice but to rock out. It’s just required, especially when the event—in this case the launch of the designer’s 10th anniversary update of the Converse Weapon—is held at Varvatos’ New York flagship store, the former home of legendary punk venue CBGB’s. Pro athletes and stars gathered on Friday for a night of style and music, courtesy of a DJ set by rapper Q-Tip and a performance by rockers Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Essential Homme’s July cover guy Colton Haynes, star of MTV’s Teen Wolf, was there along with TV personality Daisy Fuentes, pro baller Kris Humphries, and Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte.“When the original Converse Weapon was introduced, it was worn by some of the coolest people on the planet – Axel Rose, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird,” Varvatos told the crowd. “The Weapon catalyzed an era of iconic footwear. Its time has come again.”
