Hermès Added its Spin to the White Sneaker

Even as minimalism ebbs and flows in and out of the trend cycle, the leather white sneaker stands strong as a timeless footwear option. Always the perfectionist, Hermès has released an updated take on the classic shoe for Spring/Summer 2020 with its Avantage sneaker. Crafted in premium calfskin leather and lined with a goatskin insole, the ultra-fresh style is stylized with a striped and angular H on the exterior — a subtle way to label-drop that avoids the flashiness of logomania. The spine of the shoe is accented with a contrasting back panel, available in either black, burnt orange, or white. Even though white sneakers are a timeless and reliable option, keeping them clean is another story. So if you’re shoes have gone from white to off-white, it might be time for a crisp new pair.

The Hermès Avantage Sneaker is available now in stores and online now.

A.P.C. and JJJOUND Double Up On Minimalism for Winter Capsule

Two masters of minimalism join forces for a capsule collection of maximum effect. French contemporary label A.P.C. partnered with JJJOUND, the curated digital mood board turned fashion brand by Justin R. Saunders, on a line of deluxe staple pieces for the season. A series of solid color sweatshirts, hoodies, trousers, and T-shirts can adapt to any wardrobe, while the ever-so-slight branding gives the capsule its own identity. Denim pieces have been cut in raw and bleached fabrics, while accessories — like a new “Forest” candle, a notebook and pen, backpack, and denim tote bag — are designed with the utmost precision.

The JJJOUND x A.P.C. collection is available online now.

Russell Westbrook Worked on Acne’s Latest Capsule

Following his casting in the Swedish label’s global campaign for Spring/Summer 2019, NBA All-Star Russell Westbrook has collaborated with Acne Studios on a new capsule collection. The Fall/Winter 19 collection, heavily based on denim and an aquatic blue color palette, combines the brand’s signature Scandinavian street minimalism with Westbrook’s ambitious American style.

“Acne Studios is already an unbelievable brand that speaks for itself so I’m just happy and blessed to have a collection with them and to be able to show my creative side,” Westbrook said in a statement.

The collaborative collection consists of outerwear, shirts, and shorts all made in the label’s distinct denim that is perfectly geared for seasonal layering. Each of the denim pieces — including half-zip sweatshirts, utility vests, and an oversized art-school-inspired robe — have been enhanced with acid wash treatments and softened in a seafoam-like green color.

The Russell Westbrook x Acne Studios collection is available in select stores and online now.

French Brand 13 Bonaparte Opens NYC Location

From Paris to New York, 13 Bonaparte, a Haut-Marais contemporary and seasonless brand opens their doors to a new store on 1 Rivington St., across the street from its pop-up store last year.

The brand is a study on the simplicity and hipness of the neighborhood it was founded in — the Marais. With that identity in mind, founder and artistic director David Sarfati looked for other metropolitan locations that share the same spirit and a similarly creative kind of customer internationally. New York’s store is their latest offering, just after the store in downtown LA.

The brand itself brings a new ray of Bobo (bohème-bourgeois) character to the neighborhood with boutique values, seasonless pieces, and a holistic approach. Focused originally on athletic wear, generally a “faux pas in Paris,” Sarfati thought — “How can we make technical fabrics more interesting and tailored?” he asks. The label then took a signature jogging pant and made it in an elevated wool style, for example. “Our brand, since day one, has always been sportswear-chic at the same time because we love to blend,” says Sarfati. This seems to be an attitude NYC totally gets as Sarfati would see many American buyers even in the early days of his brand (founded in 2011,) and so expanding stateside was quite natural seven years later.

COS Sponsors Dorothea Rockburne Exhibit at Dia: Beacon

COS is partnering with Dia Art Foundation to support Dorothea Rockburne’s installation at the upstate New York this spring.

A major influence behind the brand, Dorothea Rockburne, the eponymous exhibition celebrating the abstract artist, will feature monumental pieces from the late 60’s and early 70’s. These are heavily influenced by the social environment of those times, her experience with dance, and also math. The large-scale installations include deconstructed paper in torn, folded, reassembled, and even brushed over with tar.

COS’ creative direction Karin Gustafsson has been heavily inspired by the minimalism in Rockburne’s pieces and continues to translate this idea into ready-to-wear — the brand’s Spring/Summer collection features pieces with papery qualities, drapery, and colors that invoke those of the artist.  Take a look at the pieces below:

Dorothea Rockburne will be on display at Dia:Beacon at 3 Beekman St, Beacon, NY  starting in May.
