Golf le Fleur* and Converse Embrace the Chunky Sneaker

The latest release from the ongoing collaboration between Converse and Tyler the Creator’s brand Golf le Fleur* might be its biggest yet. This time around, hip-hop’s most prominent aesthete, known for his soft pastels and cartoon graphics, added volume to a new Converse style: the Gianno. Pulling influences from sportswear, most notably hiking and basketball, the Gianno shoe is engineered with mesh, suede, and leather for a luxe exterior. While the outer appearance of the sneaker pulls from Converse’s basketball series from the ’90s, the chunky aesthetic remains as popular as ever. Inside, the shoe is embedded with a midfoot shank, a technical detail that helps provide balance while ascending — a feature most commonly seen in hiking gear.

The Converse x Golf le Fleur Gianno sneaker is available online now.

A Heron Preston x UGG Collab is Coming Next Month

Just yesterday Telfar revealed an upcoming collab with Converse during its Spring/Summer 2020 presentation in Paris, but now another capsule is making the rounds. After debuting its collaboration with UGG earlier this year, Heron Preston announced the forthcoming collection will drop next month. The American designer incorporated his signature street edge into some of the Australian footwear brand’s most popular styles. The Classic Mini and Tasman models have been redone in fluorescent orange and some tie-dye patterns and updated with mesh, suede, contrasting stitching, and pull tabs.

The Heron Preston x UGG collection will be available in UGG stores and online.

Telfar x Converse Collab Debuts in Paris

During the New York designer’s Spring/Summer 2020 show in Paris, Telfar unveiled a new capsule made in collaboration with Converse. Inspired by the American footwear giant’s archive pieces, including Pro Leather, ERX and classic Chuck 70, the new styles are a fresh take on some of the most recognizable shoe models. The partnership extended into a series of full apparel looks, with a collection of jersey sets, tracksuits, and t-shirts that reworked Converse’s signature star logo as a graphic statement print. Telfar has previously collaborated on wildly successful collections with partners as random as White Castle and FAKA, so a partnership with Converse might be its most practical and yet.

Vince Staples x Converse Unveil Second Collab

Vince Staples, rapper and member of the hip-hop group Cutthroat Boyz, just launched his second collaboration with Converse. This time, he focused on revamping one of the old-school and lesser-known Converse styles, the Thunderbolt, which pulls on the history of the brand, dating back to the last century. The shoes combine in them Staples’ creative know-how with Converse’s functionality and heritage, fusing vibrant colors with contrasting stitching, and a modern Californian aesthetic with a multitude of textures. The sneakers also juxtapose high gloss and reflective accents with graphical language, which is most prominent in the “RUN” graphic of the collection, crafted in ’80s font and printed in 3D on the back of the sneaker heel. Along with the sneaker comes a three-piece collection, which consists of bright orange track pants (a nod to Vince’s first collaboration with Converse), a grey crewneck sweater, and a black varsity jacket with those same bright orange tones on the underside – all of which are united in their distinctive stitch piping.

The Converse x Vince Staples Thunderbolt sneakers and the rest of the collection are available online now.

Off the Runway with Diggy Simmons

Diggy Simmons, rapper, actor (catch him on grown-ish) and offspring of Rev Simmons of Run DMC, is on the come-up. After the release of his dreamy new single ‘It is What it is’, the 23-year old has his sight set on the fashion world, recently walking in the Converse show earlier this month. While Simmons has always had an interest in clothes (“I’ve been into clothing since I could remember,” he tells me via email), working with such an iconic American brand seemed a perfect fit. “The Chuck Taylor is possibly the most most popular sneaker silhouette of all times. So many designers have tried to emulate but people will always go back to the source.” He’s right — designers like Dior and Comme des Garçons among many others have routinely created their own versions of the sneaker. He really wants to walk and get involved with Dries Van Noten, though. And in terms of personal style, he cites Pharrell  and Stefano Pilati as his biggest influences.

Watch the video for his single below and stay tuned for the release of his upcoming album.

Converse and Carhartt WIP have teamed up for a gritty new edition of the One Star shoe. The new model features Carhartt’s signature workwear aesthetic infused in the footwear’s tongue patch, which is made from a tarp-like material seen on trucks. Military cues are also embedded, with a D-ring hardware steel detail on the shoe’s heel. Available in three colors (green, black, and white) the new shoe is a functional and sturdy upgrade to the classic silhouette.

Converse x Carhartt WIP One Star will be available online on 9/20.

The hotly anticipated Nordstrom men’s store opens today near Columbus Circle. Spanning three floors, the expansive shop is a one-stop destination for the modern man’s every sartorial need.

The retailer carries luxury brands including Balenciaga, Calvin Klein, and Comme des Garçons, while offering exclusive product collaborations — upcoming ones include a Nike and Cole Haan. In the denim section, located on the ground floor, customers can purchase customized Levi’s jeans, opting to embellish their trousers with patches and other decorations. Business, fitness, party — footwear is covered.

The first floor also features a grooming station, stocked with carefully curated selection of products. Cult favorites like Kiehl’s and Jack Black, as well as smaller niche brands — the shop is currently the only site for Murdock London, a luxury grooming brand based in the UK. Planned on-site promotions include professional shaves and consultations, while travel-sized options are placed close to go for guys on the go. In another nearby nook, aesthetically-savvy tech is displayed — mainly speakers, headphones and other tablet accessories. Clearly this store aims to meet a flurry of lifestyle needs beyond fashion.

English surreal fashion brand J.W. Anderson continues to create waves in the fashion world with its upcoming release with Converse. This is the second drop in the ongoing collaboration of the two labels, which was revealed at leading menswear trade show in Italy, Pitti Uomo, when Anderson debuted the collaboration alongside his 2018 Spring/Summer collection. Classic Converse shoe models (including the  High Top, updated Vintage U-Throat Ballet Low Top get decked out in glitter. Festive!

Anderson unites his unique and revolutionary creative direction with Converse’s simplistic and universally recognizable shoe models to create a collection that will not slip under the radar. Noteworthy figures like the ever elusive Frank Ocean at FYF Fest in LA back in July have already been seen sporting the colorful kicks and we expect more to hop on the bag wagon soon.  The collection will officially drop on December 14th.

Taking the shoe-brand’s traditional silhouette, the designer instilled a taught balance between masculine design and playful humor to accentuate his heart-covered, layer-centric collection. Available in demure iterations—light tan and graphic prints—alongside the multicolored glitter, the kicks display a heightened sensibility, classic yet unrestrained. Though accessible by nature, the pieces are more statement than subtle, a unisex offering that shine all on their own.

The J.W.Anderson x Converse collaboration will be available in January 2018.

New School: Converse Updates Chuck Modern Collection

Converse Chuck Modern

Converse has achieved the impossible by reinvigorating a footwear staple in its new Chuck Modern collection. Fusing its own rich sports heritage—the Chuck Taylor All Stars dominated the NBA for almost two decades—with cutting-edge technology, the shoes focus on being jacks of all trades. As fit for streetwear as a night out, this line comes in either a breathable mesh or canvas that combines durability with wearability. With styles available in exciting colors including buff, porpoise, khaki, and jade, the Modern leaves behind the expected Chuck palette. By mixing the old with the bold, Converse has updated its icon perfectly.
