UGG x Eckhaus Latta Release FW19 Campaign Collab

UGG and Eckhaus Latta have released a joint campaign for Fall/Winter 2019. Shot in Santa Barbara by Zoe Ghertner, the panoramic images showcase the technical aspects of the pieces countered against the raw elements of the outdoors.

UGG has enjoyed a recent resurgence from darling ’00s cult item to high-fashion status — Y/Project, Kith, and Heron Preston are only a few that have released their own take on the beloved footwear. Eckhaus Latta, the Los Angeles-based label known for its deconstructed and genderless clothes, is only the latest to harness that energy and help usher in a proper return of Aughts fashion cues. In addition to releasing a traditional grey boot and black slide with green shearling, the collaborative effort includes four outerwear pieces. The dramatic overcoat (lined with sheepskin) is an obvious showstopper with big Fight Club energy, while the other items — a shawl coat, a light jacket, and a vest — are more casual options.

The UGG x Eckhaus Latta collection will launch on September 6 at select stores and online. Check out more images from the campaign in the gallery above.

Rimowa Releases New Line of Luggage

Growing up, my family only relied on one set of luggage for at least decade — it was leather, durable, reliable, yet unremarkable. And because of this I always thought that the suitcase design industry moved at a somewhat glacial pace in comparison to its fashion counterpart. But something has happened since my adolescence, where luggage is now as stylish an accessory as a utility vest or impossibly small framed sunglasses. Just check out the holographic Louis Vuitton bag that made waves upon its earlier this spring and is reselling for over $10 thousand. For a generation that loves to travel — ‘Millennials crave experiences!’ marketing agencies remind us frequently — it’s clear that luggage is just another opportunity to flex.

German brand Rimowa has emerged as one of the leaders of the high-fashion luggage revolution, having already partnered with it-brands like Supreme and Virgil Abloh’s Off-White. But with its newest release, a 4-piece collection inspired by the aerial views of certain locations, it makes a return to utility. The concept behind the RIMOWA Essential collection is pretty simple, with colors inspired by picturesque landmarks (the Coral style is inspired by the Pink Lake in Australia, the Yellow model is inspired by the canola flowers of Tuscany, etc), but the resulting pieces are a timeless statement that will outlast trendier bags of the season.

The Rimowa Essential collection launches in Rimowa stores and online on June 6. Check out the campaign below.

This week in niche designer sneaker launches: Balenciaga has released its aptly named BALENCIAGA TRACK shoe. The latest output from Demna Gvasalia, the new shoe extends upon the inescapable trend with a little more luxe functionality — inspired by outdoor and survival equipment, BALENCIAGA TRACK has overlapping woven panels and fortified soles for extra durability. TBH, it’s a more practical release from the designer that continues to keep the industry on its toes.

BALENCIAGA TRACK is out now at select retailers worldwide.

The Welcome Return of the Dangly Earring

While men’s jewelry remains a niche space in general, it’s nice to see the return of a flashy accessory: the dangly earring.  The jewelry has enjoyed popularity time and time again as a notable look from seminal artists whose style is synonymous with their work. Prince constantly embraced the jewelry, frequently sporting dramatic gold hoops and upper ear cuffs. David Bowie opted for more elaborate pieces to match his otherworldly stage persona. And I can only assume the large number of cross earrings I’ve seen can be attributed to the late and great George Michael who popularized the look during his Faith days in the ’80s.

A number of dangly earrings have been included in recent menswear shows. Linder, Willy Chavarria, and Feng Chen Wang all incorporated the pieces into their Spring 2019 collections, signaling the welcome return of the trend — Willy Chavarria featured models wearing full sets while Linder and Feng Chen Wang accessorized with single statement pieces. It’s always nice to see a little bit of glitz added to a casual look, so go forth and experiment with a dangly earring that works for you. It would make George proud.

Add Some Color to Your Eyewear with Pierre Hardy x Hervé Domar Paris

While tiny sunglasses are set to be the biggest trend of the year, French accessories designer Pierre Hardy partnered with label Hervé Domar Paris on a collection of bold and colorful eyewear. The retro assortment of glasses includes 5 models — the Fred, the Kim, the Korri, the Lee, and the Val — are bright and fun, as the rest of summer should be. Available in 5 color ways, the collection is injected with postmodern panache perfect for hitting the town or the beach. And while I love tiny sunglasses and The Matrix in theory, these ones seem a tad better at protecting your eyes from the sun.

The Pierre Hardy x Hervé Domar Paris is available at Pierre Hardy stores and online now.

Dickies and Opening Ceremony Continue Workwear Trend with New Collection

Just in case you were wondering, the workwear trend is here to stay. All American skater brand Dickies and Opening Ceremony have launched a 10-piece collection of workwear-inspired pieces, in versatile silhouettes and color hues that characterize both labels. The new collaborative line (not the first from the duo) is freshly updated in bold tones and prints. The first drop was released today — highlights include a pair of painter-inspired overalls and a scientist (or maybe Dior headquarters) inspired lab coat, among others. The second drop will follow on April 18th, offering several more pieces in plaid. Until then, peep the pieces below.

The collection is available at Opening Ceremony stores and online now.

No one’s saying a full on metallic look is easy to pull off, but there are simple ways to get in on this brazen new trend. Look no further than a few well-chosen metallic accessories. Burberry Prorsum’s Sandal To Rule Them All

Burberry Prorsum Metallic Sandal luxury trend spring 2013 runway

One of many ideals of opulence might be this: luxuriating on a reclined deck chair, made of, say, ingots of gold, anywhere tropical, while you reflect the sun’s perfect light off a Burberry Prorsum sandal. That sandal, by the way, blazed down the Burberry Spring 2013 runway and is newly arrived for sale today. On a style note—we love it because it’s probably one of the most subtle, (thus divinely insouciant) ways to work in the big metallic trend for summer. But also, on another route, it’s one of the most ostentatious ways to take on the sandal trend too. Either way, luxe, luxe, luxe! Where to buy, after the jump.
