Fashion and Broadway meet on a few occasions. There’s of course Times Square, where Broadway literally intersects with Fashion Avenue (that’s 7th ave), but also in the May/June issue of Essential Homme Magazine where we created some editorial tunes with the cast of Broadway’s hit musical Newsies. Shot by Photographer Gary Lupton and styled by Kelly Brown, the guys are wearing denim inspired looks in pieces from 3.1 Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang, Diesel Black Gold, Dior Homme, Fendi, G-Star, Gant Rugger, Iceberg, John Varvatos, Tommy Hilfiger, Topman, Prada, PRPS and Versace. Click through and check out the musical behind the fashion shoot from Essential Homme’s Newsies.
Starting: Adam Kaplan, Cory Cott, Garrett Hawe, John Dossett and Julian DeGuzman
Ryan Reynolds provided a fine example of how to do the whole “just rolled out of bed” thing with some sophisticated grace this morning in London in some Gant Rugger. Specifically, the use of Gant Rugger’s glencheck pants. Ostensibly, they’re for more formal, business-like occasions, but it looks like they dress down beautifully when paired with some worn in Chuck Taylors and black-all-over shades. The rest of the look is classic, staple versatility Every man should have that perfect v-neck sweater and simple light spring jacket (here, Gant Rugger Weeds Jacket) on the go at all times. The only thing missing from this look is a gigantic cup of coffee. Ryan Reynolds is in London for a screening of his latest film, The Croods.
The GANT Rugger Fall 2012 collection is all about one of our favorite things—culinary arts. Basically, an homage to the restauranteur and the chef. The news is that they’ve just started a new tumblr page dedicated to the season where creative director, Christopher Bastin, who loves to cook but is a self professed non-professional in this realm, offers up some recipes of his favorite dishes. And also—a challenge. If you see a recipe that you think you can improve upon or could do better, he wants you, or rather, dares you to share with him your recipe via the Tumblr page. And if he likes it? You’re concoction might just end up in the forthcoming GANT Rugger Cookbook that’ll be released later this year.
That men should sport Ivy League style well after their university days are done is telling of the style’s hold on our sartorial fascination. Brands from Ralph Lauren to GANT have made entire businesses inspired by the looks coming from the most privileged and well-connected students in the country. This May, Assouline is releasing a new 192-page tome on the subject, by acclaimed journalist David Cappello, full of excellent archival imagery to keep your own Ivy League inspirations fresh and inspirationally referential. Speaking of—GANT Rugger is taking part in the launch festivities. They’ve already dedicated some store windows to the book and will host two in-store book signing events in New York City (May 3rd at the Nolita GANT Rugger store) and New Haven, Connecticut (On June 2nd at the GANT Store on Yale’s campus). The $65 book is on pre-sale now—not a bad price, but perhaps costly for a student. If that’s you, be sure to fan GANT on facebook and send in a statement about your personal style, you could be selected to win a free signed copy and a year supply of GANT Yale Co-Op shirts.
Few labels have succeeded in transforming themselves as successfully as GANT. For Spring 2012, this metamorphosis into progenitors of timely fashion continues in stride, with their “Nouveau Prep” RUGGER collection. Taking inspiration from 60’s pop, with hints of traditionalism and hipsterism, you’ll find slimmer fitting silhouettes updating archival favorites like madras and cloth oxfords. To drive home the point even more, GANT RUGGER hired real life preppies instead of models for their campaign.
