Coach Releases Dark Disney Capsule Collection

Coach is releasing a new accessories collection injected with dark Disney fervor. Disney x Coach: A Dark Fairy Tale incorporates themes from childhood favorites like Snow White and Sleeping Beauty into the line, which additionally marks the third release from an ongoing collaboration between the designer and entertainment company. The line features an assortment of leather accessories, T-shirts, a butch distressed leather jacket, with sportive eye prints and poison apple embellishments, directly referencing iconic imagery from Disney classics. To celebrate the launch of the collection, Coach hosted an extravagant party at its SoHo store on Broome Street, transforming it into a twisted fairytale scene, soundtracked to music by Venus X.

Disney x Coach: A Dark Fairy Tale is available in Coach stores and online on May 14.

LISTEN: Shamir – Room

I was an instant fan of Shamir when he emerged on the scene with “On the Regular,” bringing a new type of pop into the conversation. His latest album, self-released Resolution, out today along with a two-song EP titled Room, shows a departure from his regular sound, but still intrigues. Showcasing a more traditionally indie and alternative tone that was referenced in his previous album (last year’s Revelations), it proves the artist’s versatility and possibly serves as a preview to an upcoming album with Mac Demarco. Listen to it here. – RQ

Weekly Instagram Roundup: Tom Ford, Kris Van Assche, and More

This week’s complete social snapshot, distilled for your pleasure.

From the hottest celebrity parties to the regretful morning-after shots, ESSENTIAL HOMME‘s Weekly Instagram Roundup brings all of the hottest designer, model, and trendsetting pics from the week directly to you. After all, no one has time to scroll through anything but the best.

Tom Ford

Though the designer/director missed out on gold, Tom Ford‘s supporting man, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, took home Best Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture — Drama for Nocturnal Animals at this year’s Golden Globe awards. Decked out in a look by the designer himself, the film marks the second project by Ford to hit the big screen and his first time being recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for his work.

Christian Williams

Model Christian Williams captured the riotous energy that Sibling London brought to the London Fashion Week Men’s runway, the brand debuting a knitwear (what else?) line of deep navy and burning maroon. The collection itself is a fervent attempt to reclaim the union jack and reinvent a coveted English punk vibe through loud and unexpected detailing.

Ed Skrein

Unconcerned with his film Deadpool’s Golden Globes engagement in America, actor Ed Skrein returned to his homeland for London Collections Men’s and Belstaff‘s impressive Autumn/Winter 2017 showing. The brand, inspired by the British Navy for a dual offering of both men’s and women’s lines, debuted a ’60s-inspired collection with minor embellishments for a classic feel in execution and scope.

Kris Van Assche

Dior Creative Director Kris Van Assche saturated his Instagram feed with the French brand’s high-brow Summer 2017 campaign prints. Starring the likes of Rami Malek, Boy George, and A$AP Rocky, a recent favorite of the designer, the images were shot by photographer Willy Vanderperre and usher in a darker, austere vibe for the fashion house.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast

Don’t miss the latest look at ESSENTIAL HOMME October/November 2016 cover star Luke Evans’s villainous turn in the upcoming “Beauty and the Beast” from Disney. The previous trailer shattering viewing records, this sneak peek, debuting during the 2017 Golden Globes Award telecast, features a first listen of the film’s lead, Emma Watson, singing and the pitchfork wielding villagers that Evans leads with his staple collected control.

‘The Jungle Book’ x KENZO: The Clothed Necessities

In celebration of Walt Disney’s live-action release of “The Jungle Book,” Parisian fashion house KENZO has launched a limited edition collection inspired by the jungle itself and original film’s characters. For the capsule, Creative Directors Carol Lim and Humberto Leon sourced drawings from the classic animated movie, marrying strong, childhood elements with details we know as quintessential KENZO, recalling even Mr. Kenzo Takada’s first brick-and-mortar, Jungle Jap, in 1970. The assortment is made up of knitwear, summer shirts, jackets, and trousers with jungle scenarios and a Shere Khan cameo on KENZO’s signature tiger sweater—a tangible symbol of the partnership between both visual brands.

“The Jungle Book” x KENZO is now available online.

Opening Ceremony Celebrates Mickey Mouse with a ‘Steamboat Willie’ Inspired Collab

Video: Opening Ceremony.

Opening Ceremony, downtown New York’s indie answer to department store shopping—although the price tags might say otherwise— just released its latest big-eared collaboration with Disney for a perkily-printed capsule collection celebrating the 85th anniversary of the first ever Mickey Mouse film, Steamboat Willie. The limited edition line features vivid stills from the animated film printed onto ready-to-wear (buttown-down shirts, fees, sweatshirts, and soft knits) as well as OC partner products including Vans slip-ons, New Era snapbacks, and Tabio socks. Call it fashion nostalgia—in the vein of last year’s OC x Elvis Aloha-inspired collar, and not the ever-trolling, completely terrifying vintage photos of Disneyland from the 1950’s—or following sartorial suit (flashes of Bobby AbleyJeremy Scott, and Marc Jacobs quickly scamper across our internal runways), or just an animated homage Either way, we’re excited.
