*UPDATE* Moncler Grenoble Fall 2013: Your Winter Wear Overlords
Dressing for the nuclear winter? Sure, you’ve thought about that one, haven’t you? But what to wear to the chilly new world order arising there after? Hmmm… and actually, you might not have much of a choice, because it will be all Moncler Grenoble Fall 2013. They sent us into a chic vision of that eerie future…or galaxy far, far away…with a 350 or so person art instillation inside of Gotham Hall that wouldn’t seem all that out of place inside the MOMA. They’d constructed a miniature arena, filling the 5 rows with models, who stood with near perfect precision as lights flashed, faded, circled and danced around the room and bounced off the mirrored ceiling to the beat of thumping bass/orchestral electronic/Star Wars theme music. The mix? Pretty mind-blowing—aesthetically there’s the Lenny Kravitz’s Are You Gonna Go My Way video but vibe-wise it was all The Empire Strikes Back and a bit of stylized fascism a la Pink Floyd’s film, The Wall. Past the showmanship and the overwhelming totalitarian tone, what stands out most is that in Moncler’s vision of the future, individualism still reigns supreme—within the few hundred model show, it was hard to spot anything that repeated. Marvel the work in imagery and video after the jump.
