Reinterpreting the façade’s recognizable sails, “L’Observatoire de la lumière” (Observatory of Light) covers 3,600 pieces of the glass exteriors in an arresting wave of visual effects through 13 differently colored planes. Spaced apart and alternating in transparencies, the work has an ever-changing effect that results from the play of time of day and season of the year.

Through this, Buren, known for for space-specific visual transformations, sees the Fondation Louis Vuitton constantly anew.

“L’Observatoire de la lumière” will be on view starting May 11, 2016.
