Levi’s Dips Into Cottonized Hemp for Spring

The all-American denim brand is riding the sustainability wave with the launch of cottonized hemp in its Wellthread collection. Designed in collaboration with eco-friendly surf brand Outerknown, the Spring/Summer ’19 line of denim, t-shirts, and other staple pieces, is made from entirely sustainable materials — t-shirts are made from recycled jeans (how meta) and Levi’s classics like the Trucker jacket and 511 slim fit jeans are made of a new cottonized hemp fabric. While hemp fashion is not particularly new, the fact that a major denim label has adopted the material into its production cycle shows that mass-sustainable manufacturing is possible and others should take note while we still can.

The Levi’s Wellthread™ x Outerknown collection is available online now.

Swimwear line KATAMA has released a new collection for a cause, partnering with environmental conversation group Oceana on a charity capsule that benefits ocean preservation efforts. Inspired by the Polar Bear Plunge (when a bunch of people dive into freezing waters for a cause), the fittingly titled Polar Bear collection features swimsuits, t-shirts, a jacket, and cardigan that each contain a polar bear motif — perfect for your next Plunge. And for every piece sold, KATAMA will donate 20% directly to Oceana.

“We share this earth and its oceans together and it is our duty to protect it together. That’s why I am passionate about our amazing collaboration with Oceana,” KATAMA founder Garrett Kneff said in a statement.  “They [Oceana] are the leading organization in maintaining and protecting our oceans which are our most diverse resource on the planet.”

The Polar Bear collection is available now. Check out some of the campaign below.

Breitling’s New Avenger Bandit is Ready for the Open Ocean

Image: Breitling.

Built to withstand harsh weather and demanding conditions, the new Breitling Avenger Bandit captures the spirit of naval exploration. One of the last independent Swiss watch brands, Breitling was founded in 1884, and has an extensive history of designing instruments for the sky. Today, with the Bandit, the watchmaker turns its attention to the seas. Taking design cues from aircraft carriers, the new watch is entirely dedicated to performance. Featuring an ultra-light 45mm titanium case and a military rubber strap, the piece is as durable as it is versatile, ready to tackle the most demanding of tasks. A cambered sapphire crystal, glare-proofed on both sides, aviation-style numerals, and a luminescent coating add heightened visibility, while the gray case—a nod to to military ships—makes the watch as stealthy as it is utilitarian. In terms of technology, the new timepiece pulls out all the stops. Features include a 1/4th of a second chronograph, with 30-minute and 12-hour totalizers, a screw-locked crown, and a unidirectional rotating bezel. Adorning the bezel are four rider tabs—a Breitling signature—that allow the user to memorize specific times. In keeping with the marine theme, the watch is water-resistant up to 300 m. A Swiss-certified self-winding chronograph caliber Breitling 13 movement, which ensures both reliability and precision, tops off the perfect companion for any daring mission.

The Breitling Avenger Bandit is now available online.
