Timo Weiland Spring 2013 Mens: Keith Haring, Larry Levan and Heart-ing New York

You know you can expect a healthy dose of “New York” when it comes to Timo Weiland, who are collectively Timo Weiland, Alan Eckstein along with head of design, Donna Kang. And it looks like the Brooklyn Museum’s Keith Haring exhibition that’s come and gone since their last collection, has played its part in the desiners’ Spring 2013 collection. We snagged a few minutes with the crew who were full of smiles moments before their show. “The art, the non-art, just the everything,” Weiland gushed when explaining why they’re so enchanted by the big apple. For Timo Weiland Spring 2013, Eckstein explains, “We’re like traveling back in time more than a different place. This collection is all about artist Keith Haring meeting hip hop culture in New York, the music of Larry Levan and the Paradise Garage”.  Regarding how that played out in the label’s choice of fabrics Eckstein added, “Actually, this season all of our fabrications are more Japanese, we seem to flock to a more deconstructed men’s fabric and the tailored goods were slightly deconstructed.” Weiland said as Kang picked up…”Waxed cottons with interesting finishes and colors. We’re a little more sportswear so the fabric is a little more high-tech.”
