Saint Laurent Presents Film-Installation in Shanghai

Making its international debut, Saint Laurent‘s first SELF film A Night in Shanghai is curated by Chinese artist Wong Kar Wai and directed by Wing Shya. Beginning last year with artists chosen by Anthony Vaccarello, the SELF series is an extension of the ethos of Saint Laurent and its attitude. The film, set in Shanghai, will be on view exclusively at the Yuz Museum in the Chinese city’s art district in an immersive screen-installation from November 22nd through 24th.

A Night in Shanghai threads the story of searching for the “self.” Ju Xiaowen walks on a wire in the film symbolically trying to find real-life between the stark past and present. She is looking deeper into who she really is and how to wants to express that. The destination being Shanghai also reflects a deep connection between the contemporary brand and the highly-developed, artistic city. Check out a clip from the video above now.

Coach’s Mascot is Reimagined by Rising Artists

The iconic Coach dinosaur, Rexy, just got a makeover of globe-spanning proportions. In a groundbreaking collaboration with four renowned Chinese artists, the American brand created a line of bags and T-shirts that are true works of art. Each designer reinterpreted the beloved dinosaur in their own respective medium, with prints on accessories including backpacks and fanny packs. With works in sculpture, ink, a graphic collaboration with a music collective, and beyond, impressions of the mascot adorn classic bags and fresh T-shirts for men and women. The combination of the quintessential Coach look and a radical Rexy is astounding enough to put the “historic” in prehistoric.

Saint Laurent Opens First Flagship Store in Beijing

A month after opening its flagship in Shanghai (the designer’s first in China), Saint Laurent has unveiled a new outpost in Beijing. Housed in the lavish China World Mall within the larger China World Hotel, the new store maintains the same modern and sleekness of its other locations.

Spread across two levels, the interior combines elements of French modernism, Art Deco, and the designer’s signature urban grit as seen by Anthony Vaccarello. Marble wall accents, stainless steel steps, and leather and nickel-plated brass benches furnish the open interior, which is a postmodern dream fit for a rockstar — just look at the pictures below. Since it opened in 2017, China World Mall has been redefining the mall shopping experience, and as the home of one of only two Saint Laurent stores in the country, it’s already a must-see if you’re in the area.

Saint Laurent is open now at South China World Mall, No. 1 Jian Guomenwai Avenue, Beijing, China.

Prada is Heading to Shanghai for S/S 2020

For Spring/Summer 2020, Prada has announced that it will present its men’s collection in Shanghai this coming June.

“China has always occupied a prominent place in Prada’s imagination: in particular, the city of Shanghai and its rich cultural life. The attitude and identity of Shanghai, its dynamic fusions of past and present, old and new, are sources of constant exchange and interest,” Miuccia Prada said in a statement.

The Italian label joins the growing number of American designers opting to stage their shows in the Chinese capital. Recently, Coach presented its Pre-Fall ’19 show there while Tommy Hilfiger presented its Fall ’19 show there last September.

Coach Pre-Fall ’19 to Show in Shanghai

Today Coach announced that their Pre-Fall 2019 show is moving to Shanghai. The designer chose Shanghai because of the youthful energy and vibrancy, in hopes of joining the similar “bright lights, big city” attitudes that both New York and Shanghai share with each other.

Features include specially designed accessories, ready-to-wear and sneakers created by Stuart Vevers, creative director of the label, with Chinese cultural icon collaborations. “Staging our Pre-Fall show in Shanghai is a big moment for Coach and for me personally,” Vevers said in a statement. “I’m most looking forward to taking the spirit of the new Coach and the attitude and energy of New York to Shanghai to connect in an exciting and memorable way.”

CEO and president of Coach Joshua Schulman shares a similar sentiment, saying, “As we celebrate 15 years in the market, we look forward to building an even closer connection between Coach and our fans in China.”

Coach’s Pre Fall 2019 runway show will be held on December 8th and take place on Shanghai’s popular waterfront The Bund.

Lewis Hamilton x Tommy Collection Debuts in Shanghai

As part of the ongoing ‘Tommy Now’ traveling showcase, Tommy Hilfiger debuted a new collaborative collection with British Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton during Shanghai’s fall fashion week. The line is a sequel to the designer’s last successful collaboration, Tommy X Gigi (of Hadid fame) which launched back in February. Hamilton grew up seeing Hilfiger worn by music icons like Snoop Dogg and Aaliyah, so the new line features a balance between the classic Hilfiger pieces and the sporty style of Hamilton, resulting in an on-trend mix of athleisure. Check out some of the collection below.

The Lewis X Tommy collection is available online now.
