Qasimi Announces New Creative Director

Following label founder Khalid Al Qasimi’s sudden passing in July, British menswear designer Qasimi has announced its new creative director. Hoor Al Qasimi — Khalid’s twin sister — will assume the role immediately, with support from the design team led by Adam Rice.

Born in the United Arab Emirates, Hoor Al Qasimi received a formal education at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. She also founded the Sharjah Art Foundation, a culture and arts foundation in her native UAE, and serves on the board of various museums including MoMA PS1 in New York.

“While bringing her artistic sensibility to QASIMI, Hoor will seek to maintain Khalid’s aesthetic, which was centered around the idea of an urban nomad and built upon the pillars of architecture, colour, military details and social-political messaging. She will strive to stay true to this messaging,” the designer said in a statement.

Hoor Al Qasimi will debut her first collection for the brand in January 2020 as part of London Fashion Week Men’s.

Khalid-Al-Qasimi designer died

Designer Khalid Al Qasimi has Died at 39

Khalid Al Qasimi, designer and founder of Qasimi, passed away in London on July 1. He was 39 years old.

Qasimi moved to London when he was nine years old and later enrolled in Central Saint Martins where he received two degrees in architecture and fashion design. He founded his eponymous contemporary label in 2008, frequently commented on Middle Eastern politics, that presented collections during both London and Paris Fashion Week. He was also the second son of the ruler of Sharjah (his father Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi has reigned since 1972) in the United Arab Emirates.

Our thoughts go out to Qasimi’s family during this tragic time.

Experimenting with details, Qasimi also focused on oversized silhouettes and shapes for its Fall 2018 presentation. Exaggerated coat lapels and checked prints were a highlight among outerwear, as were a number cropped knitwear pieces with elongated sleeves and simplistic stripes. Additionally, sweatshirts were printed with affirming terms like BLESSED and AMEN (in reference to the Kendrick Lamar DAMN. cover art, nonetheless), successfully rounding out the collection that displayed how menswear can be sophisticated and statement making.
