Prada is the Latest to Go Fur-Free

Prada is the latest designer to announce its newly implemented fur-free initiative, starting with its Spring/Summer 2020 collections. The Italian designer has worked with the Fur Free Alliance, an international group consisting of more than 50 animal protection organizations from over 40 countries, which has commended its strategy.

“The Prada Group is committed to innovation and social responsibility, and our fur-free policy – reached following a positive dialogue with the Fur Free Alliance, in particular with LAV and the Humane Society of the United States – is an extension of that engagement,” founder Miuccia Prada said in a statement. “Focusing on innovative materials will allow the company to explore new boundaries of creative design while meeting the demand for ethical products.”

Prada is just the latest to announce its decision to go fur-free — other fashion powerhouses, including 3.1 Phillip LimCoach, Gucci, and Versace, have also pledged to abandon the material going forward as sustainability efforts continue to be a hot topic. Good for them!

3.1 Phillip Lim Meets FILA Sportswear

Italian sporting brand FILA just launched their first ever collaboration with American contemporary designer 3.1 Phillip Lim. Lim explores a new take on elevated and technical sportswear while celebrating FILA’s legacy. The collaboration will continue for two years, and the first collection launched exclusively in China in December.

“I was thrilled at the opportunity to collaborate with FILA as I have long admired the brand’s distinctive streetwear aesthetic and storied heritage,” Lim said on Instagram. “In conceptualizing this collection, it was important to me to build upon that core DNA while remaining true to certain tenets: enthusiasm, versatility, and agility – to create elevated ‘at-leisure’ for the modern global citizen.”

The collaboration includes quarterly drops of men’s and womenswear, as well as a line of accessories, including bags, shoes, hats, and socks. The campaign was shot by photographer But Sou Lai at a tennis stadium in Shanghai and was styled by Lucia Liu. Some of the featured models included Chu Wong, Liu Zhicheng, Yuta Shen and Ruiqi Jiang.

The debut 3.1 Phillip Lim x FILA collection is now exclusively available in FILA and Lane Crawford stores in China, as well as on both online.

Designer Phillip Lim took an elastic approach to Fall/Winter 2015 by merging luxe menswear silhouettes with the sportiness of the great outdoors and centralizing on bungee cords as the collection’s core material. Replacing belts, emphasizing bag details, and even building full shirts, the stretchable strands pair with mountain climbing metallic clasps, above the ankle joggers, and tundra-ready boots for an exploration in both style and technique.

Very few designers have the talent and ability to create cult-worthy clothing and accessories that span the fashion gap between Crosby Street and Park Avenue like Phillip Lim does. The Chinese-American designer has been making waves since he first arrived on the fashion scene in 2005 with his eponymous line, and has won various awards including the coveted Emerging Talent in Womenswear and Accessories Designer of the Year nods from the CFDA. This month fans of his luxury lifestyle brand will get the opportunity to experience it in full swing when 3.1 Phillip Lim joins New York City’s NoHo neighborhood with a new flagship boutique. The 3,500 square foot space will house the entire men’s, women’s, and accessories collections and will also mark the unveiling of a new retail concept designed by Lim and the London-based creative agency Campaign. Visitors of the new store—which will be located at 48 Jones Street—can expect their favorite statement-making satchels mingling in a creative studio-inspired space that incorporates geometric shapes, polished concrete floors, and vintage furniture carefully curated by the designer himself. To further celebrate the opening, famed photographer Bill Jacobsen has produced a series of photos that chronicle three months in the life of the store’s creation. The resulting artistic images will live-on in a limited-edition hardcover book that can be purchased exclusively at the flagship.

For Spring/Summer 2015 3.1 Phillip Lim‘s men’s collection brought cool back to comfort with relaxed fits, slouchy silhouettes, and jumpin’ jumpsuits in the brand’s tradition of gridded textures and luxe materials. See what happened behind the show below.
