The Best Looks from the 2020 Academy Awards

As another awards season comes to a close, last night’s Oscars went out with a bang and the men definitely dressed the part. Classic tuxes seemed to dominate the carpet, with some subtle but effective updates to the traditional look. Take a look at some of the winning looks from last night’s ceremony.

‘Joker’ is Going on a World Tour

Joker, the controversial biopic chronicling the rise of one of the most famous comic book villains, is not going away anytime soon. Despite being the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time and the most nominated film at the 2020 Academy Awards, people can’t seem to get enough of Joaquin Phoenix’s emaciated (and Oscar-worthy) take on the character. Starting in April, fans will be able to see the film accompanied by a full orchestra playing along to the score, which was arranged by Icelandic composer Hildur Guðnadóttir.

“When we recorded the music, the orchestra brought such depth and detailed attention to the performances that we were all literally holding our breaths during most of the recording sessions. It was a beautiful trip. I’m so happy to get to go there again and for an audience to experience that too,” Guðnadóttir said.

The first performance of the live edition of Joker will take place in London on April 30, before moving to other cities in the UK and eventually the world, with international dates to be announced in the coming weeks. Watch the trailer for Joker below.

Gucci’s First Men’s Store Opens in Beverly Hills

Peacocks of the world, this one’s for you. Gucci, the flamboyant Italian label that has singlehandedly made a fashion icon out of Harry Styles, is opening a dedicated men’s store in Beverly Hills. The new boutique is located next to the designer’s existing store on Rodeo Drive, allowing the brand to amp up its womenswear and accessories inventory while emphasizing its menswear offerings in a new space.

The launch of the store echos the designer’s decision to abandon its coed shows and present its own menswear show, which it did earlier this year in Milan for Fall 2020. The expansive 3,500-square-foot shop is furnished with vintage-looking furniture that seems right at home alongside the designer’s flashy and eccentric wearables. For the guys that like to dress loud, the new store is the ultimate spot to pick up the latest velvet bell-bottoms, festive suits, and any genderfluid-friendly glam-rock stagewear you can imagine. Maybe some guys should take a cue from Lana del Rey and pick up something to wear on their way to the Academy Awards next Sunday.

The Gucci Men’s store is open now at 347 N Rodeo Dr, Beverly Hills, CA 90210.

A Look at the Lady Gaga Museum

Few artists have been able to seamlessly merge the world’s of fashion and pop as effortlessly as one Stefani Germanotta, aka pop savant Lady Gaga. And while the artist has returned to Las Vegas to continue her acclaimed residency, ENIGMA at Park MGM — she took a bit of a hiatus to win an Oscar and tease her upcoming sixth album — fans can rejoice with an accompanying exhibition of her most iconic looks throughout her decade-spanning career.

Curated in part by her longtime collaborator Nicola Formichetti, HAUS OF GAGA/LAS VEGAS is an intimate look at some of the artist’s most indelible looks. Each of the pieces — including full looks from music videos, world tours, and various media appearances — was plucked from a temperature-regulated vault in California that preserves their legacy. Some highlights include the infamous cigarette sunglasses (as seen in the ‘Telephone‘ video), the meat dress (which she wore during the 2010 VMAs), the all-white bodysuit she donned during her career-making ‘Paparazzi‘ performance in 2009, and the Philip Treacy-designed rhinestone-covered lobster hat (just worn on a night out in London). Whether you’re a lifetime fan or just someone who appreciates striking design, there’s something to catch your eye in this pop culture time capsule.

A select number of pieces will be available for purchase with proceeds going towards the Born This Way Foundation, a non-profit co-founded by Gaga that promotes mental health awareness for youth. Check out some of the pieces below.

Watch the Best Moment from the 2019 Academy Awards

The first hostless Oscars in almost 30 years went on without a swing, and (surprisingly) provided the awards ceremony with the highest ratings in 5 years. This is most likely due to the highly anticipated and showstopping performance of Best Original Song  ‘Shallow‘ by Best Actor and Actress nominees Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. The captivating performance needed no introduction (literally — the music just started playing and Cooper and Gaga walked from the front row to belt it out) and once again flaunted the undeniable chemistry of the two leads. The fact that A Star is Born went home with only one award (Congrats, Gaga!) is borderline criminal, but this performance will go down as one of the awards ceremony’s finest. Watch Gaga scream her fucking heart out below.

The always regal Pose star stopped traffic with a runway-ready custom Christian Siriano tuxedo dress. The only thing better than seeing men embracing red carpet fashion like never before is this video of Glenn Close’s admiration of Porter’s ensemble. Bless.

Spike Lee’s Winning Speech

After BlacKkKlansman won the award for Best Adapted Screenplay, director Spike Lee leaped into Samuel L. Jackson’s arms before giving a heartfelt speech about rallying for love against hate in the upcoming 2020 election. Right there with you, Lee.

The Efron/McConaughey Reunion You Didn’t Know Your Tuesday Needed

You might remember The Paperboy as the film that featured Nicole Kidman simulating some very gesticular fellatio, or the film in which Matthew McConaughey got raped and tortured by a group of men (spoiler!), or the film where Zac Efron danced in his tighty whities in the rain. Or… you might not remember it at all. In the time since the movie’s release, the high profiles of both its male stars have only sky-rocketed higher and higher (crescendoed by McConaughey’s Oscar win on Sunday). So it’s only fitting that during Sunday’s award ceremony, Efron, a presenter, caught up with his old buddy for an Instagram opportunity. In the picture above, Efron appears to be giving off some serious brood, while McConaughey looks just the right amount of lit. The black and white filter: a nice touch though.

Watching Celebs Eat Pizza at the Oscars is Strangely Captivating

86th-academy-awards-show

If you happened to have missed any of the 3.5+ hour 86th Academy Awards last night, you have nothing to worry about today, because the internet assures you that it has got you covered (echo: covered, covered covered). There’s a lot to digest, and we’re not just talking about stand-out moments like Liza Minnelli getting shut out of the most retweeted selfie of all time (currently topping out at 2.6M retweets) or Adele Dazeem-gate or Jared Leto’s hombre. Seriously, so much happened yesterday. But back to the digestion transition… If you haven’t already heard, host Ellen Degeneres ordered pizza for attendees, and it wasn’t a “you get a car and you get a car” situation. Just three boxes.

But the meal wasn’t just satisfying for the stars that partook, like Meryl Streep (two slices), Channing Tatum, and Jamie Foxx’s daughter (*record scratch*), but for us at home as well. And why? Not only did we not get any sauce stains on our custom Pradas, but we got to watch star’s like Martin Scorsese, Julia Roberts, and Brad Pitt (the frontrunner) munch. And satisfying it was.

Brad “Fashion, Baby” Pitt Rolls through LAX

Brad-Pitt-SAG-Awards-2014

Award season is upon us—as are opening blog articles that start this way—which means Brad Pitt will be out in full designer-clad force (his wife, more of a wildcard without a film of her own to promote). Pitt’s ever-lengthening IMDB page added some scroll to 2013, with a supporting role in Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave, for which he also served as one of the film’s lead producers. Over the weekend, Pitt showed up to the Critics’ Choice Awards and Producers Guild Awards with a brand new dude-do (see Mindy Kaling’s hilarious Instagramming below).

Later at LAX, a paparazzo approached the actor to find out the cause behind the chopping of Pitt’s gorgeous locks. The dialogue went as follows:

Pap: Congratulations, Brad.

Pitt: Thanks, Man.

Pap: What’s up with the hair, man? Was it an oops or what? Were you in the bathroom and oops? What was it? You said it wasn’t by choice (x2).

Pitt: Fashion, baby.

Fassbender Doesn’t Want Your Carrot OR Your Oscar

12-years-a-slave-michael-fassbender-steve-mcqueen

It’s hard for some to wrap their minds around the fact that Hollywood’s elite actually have to campaign to win those golden statuettes, but perhaps even harder to believe that some of them reject the very idea. In 2011, Michael Fassbender starred opposite Carey Mulligan in Steve McQueen’s Shame. But Kevin James had a comedy out where he played a zookeeper and Vanessa Hudgens had a vague remake of Beauty and the Beast and who could forget: The Smurfs. Needless to say, people were preoccupied and Fassbender’s very Oscar-friendly performance and his subsequent campaign went unnoticed. Well, Fassbender’s back at it again — making movies that is — re-teaming with McQueen for the highly-anticipated 12 Years a Slave (co-starring Brad Pitt and Benedict Cumberbatch). But no Oscars, please.

Fassbender spoke to GQ, revealing: “You know, I get it. Everybody’s got to do their job. So you try and help and facilitate as best you can. But I won’t put myself through that kind of situation again. It’s just a grind. And I’m not a politician. I’m an actor.”

This harkens back to Joaquin Phoenix’s infamous Interview quote: “[The award circuit is] total, utter bullshit, and I don’t want to be a part of it. I don’t believe in it. It’s a carrot, but it’s the worst-tasting carrot I’ve ever tasted in my whole life. I don’t want this carrot. It’s totally subjective. Pitting people against each other … it’s the stupidest thing in the whole world.”

Here’s a trailer for the film Fassbender will not be campaigning for:
