While the runway show for Canali was certainly something to talk about this season—with its rich Venetian silks and shawl collared, robe-like coats—it is the menswear brand’s just-released video, Contours, on Nowness that has us pressing re-play. To celebrate its 80th anniversary as well as the launch of a new website, the Italian company commissioned Amsterdam-based artist Job Waters to create a calligraphic painting for every year of the brand’s life. In the film each work is a performance in itself; playing off the minimalistic, hand-crafted feeling that Canali is known for, and mirroring the smooth gentleness of its Autumn/Winter 2014 Collection with each of Wouters’ curved brushstrokes.
