Greg Lauren x Alanui Mix Italian Chic with Southern Comfort

What do you get when an eclectic American artist teams up with a craft-obsessed Italian sibling duo? An exquisite and perfectly distressed collection under the collaborative moniker of Greg Lauren x Alanui. Lauren—a whiz with vintage denim and sumptuous jacquards—was inspired by Alanui’s ability to merge Italian artistry with an American Southwest sensibility. In turn, Carlotta and Nicolò Oddi were eager to give their popular cashmere knits an update. The eight pieces in the capsule are all unisex, including coats, field jackets, hoodies, and track pants.

Available at Saks and Saks.com.

Joining forces to foster a rising fashion star, Banana Republic and the Council of Fashion Designers of America launch a limited-edition collection with artist and designer Greg Lauren. The 16-piece range unifies Lauren’s bohemian-meets-utilitarian style with Banana Republic’s classic, understated sensibility. Made from an array of materials including knit, wool, and cashmere, the collection showcases Lauren’s torn, oversized, and luxurious aesthetic, and attests his compatibility with the heavyweight retailer. Flight and tweed jackets pair with minimalist sweatshirts, long-sleeve shirts, and knit pants, all featured in warm tones contrasted with inky blacks. Blurring the lines between formal and casual wear, the range includes a wool tuxedo jacket and vest, offering a casual slant on a classic look, similar to the linen shirt and cashmere top coat. “Greg is a true artist who puts his heart and soul into every piece he creates,” says Michael Anderson, president of design at Banana Republic. “We share a passion for the details and had a great time playing with ways to marry our signature styles through his artistic approach.” A bourgeoning name in the industry, following in the fashion footsteps of his legendary Uncle Ralph, Greg offers masculine, alternative styles in dark and earthy tones, as seen in his Autumn/Winter 2016 collection.

The Greg Lauren for Banana Republic collection will be available at select Banana Republic locations from December 6, 2016.

NYFWM: Backstage Greg Lauren Autumn/Winter 2016

While many designers craft other worlds for their seasonal debuts, never before has the narrative been so in your face as Greg Lauren‘s Autumn/Winter 2016 presentation. An exploration of the archetype of the hero, Lauren threw his audience in a noir-esque muli-line plot of shadows and destruction.

76 Reasons Dover Street Market NY is Going to be Awesome

dsmnyThere’s not much that can be said about Dover Street Market—or its founder, the reclusive Rei Kawakubo—that hasn’t already been tried to be pulled out like teeth by the sartorial elite. We could count the number of veiled interviews this year alone with our fingers—if we weren’t already rushing to flip through the rare pages—in which Kawakubo allowed for public comment. There was one with Suzy Munkes, a conversation with Style.com Matthew Schneier, a few brief words for System Magazine‘s second issue, and, for the most part, that was it. Bottom line is, she’s very mysterious.

Now, Kawakubo’s New York edition of Dover Street Market, a seven-story, 18,00 square foot store, opens tomorrow (Saturday, December 21) in perhaps one of Manhattan’s least-posh neighborhoods: Murray Hill (the irony!). There is talk of a Louis Vuitton pop-up shop on the first floor, a Parisian-inspired Rose Bakery on the mezzanine (similar to the store’s counterparts in Tokyo and London), and even a DSM x Prada exclusive collection. All of this, though, is just speculation. What we do know is that the store’s epic stock-list has everything from A.P.C. denim for the everyday to Paco Rabanne couture. See the list of the first 76-known brands that the store will carry below (we’re sure they’ll be more), and we’ll be sure to catch you at the opening.
