Some of the Best Fits from the 2020 Grammy Awards

Billie Eilish showed off her supervillain style, Tyler the Creator went full camp (again), and a new wave of gay cowboys were some of the highlights at music’s biggest night. Here are some of the best outfits from last night’s ceremony.

One of Tyler’s most compelling talents is the ability to take such familiar references, like the Andy Warhol wig he donned for most of 2019 as part of his IGOR era (the album won the award for Best Rap Album) or this Grand Budapest Hotel-inspired bellhop suit, and completely warp them into something entirely original. Enter the era of Tyler, the Auteur.

The 18-year old’s breakout hit “Bad Guy” was up for some of the biggest awards of the night, including Song and Record of the Year (it won both), so she honored this by literally dressing like a glammed-up Batman villain — being bad never looked so good.

Billie Eilish’s co-writer, brother, and general behind-the-scenes mastermind stepped out in a festive yet elegant suit. The oversized bow-tie is a nice touch.

This look perfectly encapsulates the blurry and exciting trend of men’s suits, balancing traditional tailoring with the avant-garde.

Note to everyone: THIS is how a suit should fit. With a pop of color and a seamless fit, Shawn cements his place as a menswear icon.

Decked out in sequins and leather fringe, Orville Peck represents the next era of gay cowboys.

Decked out in studs and a pink harness, Lil Nas X also represents the next era of gay cowboys.

Even when he’s wearing a suit with sparkly slides, Iggy still looks like he could he beat you up.

Rosalía Returns with New Video for ‘Juro Que’

Ahead of her upcoming Grammy performance on Sunday, where she’s also nominated for Best New Artist, Rosalía released a new single. The Spanish flamenco-pop singer returned to her roots with “Juro Que,” a passionate love song replete with hand-claps and her signature longing vocals. Though she was able to achieve mainstream international acclaim following the release of her mostly-Spanish sophomore album El Mal Querer in 2018, the video includes English lyrics for her growing foreign fanbase. Omar Ayuso, of Elite on Netflix fame, co-stars in the music video as her incarcerated lover, wearing an Alan Crocetti nose plaster while she pleads her devotion to him despite their current predicament. It’s definitely a departure from the bouncy cool of last year’s “Con Altura,” but a welcome return and flawless display of her unique artistry in today’s crowded pop world.

‘The Rocketman’ Cometh: A Few Facts About Sir Elton John

With his upcoming biopic Rocketman slated for 2019, and his farewell tour, Farewell Yellow Brick Road, Sir Elton John returns to the spotlight. This multifaceted artist has transformed every aspect of showbiz as we know it, influencing fashion, music, and even soccer.  Aside from his accomplishments in vocal performance, Elton John has an awe inspiring resume — we highlight some lesser known facts about the icon.

  • He isn’t just about the music, he’s also a sports fanatic.  The triple-threat Brit owned a soccer team, Watford Football Club from 1976-1987 and 1997-2002.  He is currently an honorary life president and even had a stadium named after him in 2014. In 1975, John made his love for athletics abundantly clear when he performed Dodger Stadium in a sequined baseball uniform. We’d expect nothing less.

  •  Along with being a spectacular showman, John is an excellent composer.  He won Best Original Song during the 67th Academy Awards, along with Tim Rice, for “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” from The Lion King, as well as a Grammy during the 37th Grammy Awards for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.  Later, he composed the musical score for a number of hit Broadway shows including Billy Elliot: The Musical and Aida.

  • To call him a fashion icon is an understatement.  Elton John is a fashion muse, instigator, and tastemaker. Blossoming during the 70’s glam era, he had no problem indulging in luxurious camp. Big rhinestone sunglasses, huge plumage, multi-colored bow-ties, he had the ability to reinvent suits with opulent theatrics.  He has a close working relationship with Gucci, responsible for designing the outfits for his farewell tour, which commenced in September and is scheduled to continue until 2021.

  • Politics makes strange bedfellows, and so does musical entertainment.  Since their controversial duet in 2001 during the 43rd Grammy Awards, during which Elton John sang the accompaniment to Eminem’s hit rap song “Stan”, the two mega-stars have remained close friends.  Over the years the two have reportedly exchanged everything from life advice to extravagantly outrageous wedding presents.

Worst Behavior: Drake’s Most-Successful and Awful Styles

c79f26b6f377a46411167c0dba878a07

When Drake‘s first mix tape dropped in 2009 I remember first asking “what exactly is a mixtape?” and then immediately scoffing at the idea of Aubrey Drake Graham—known exclusively to me, juniors in Canada, and my like two *really cool* friends in Texas then as Jimmy from Degrassi—being a curse word using, below-the-knee tee wearing, two leg standing (!) rapper. My reaction was slightly similar to how you might feel if you found out your chubby sister wanted to be a model (..yeah, good luck with that Jane!…). Five years later, two names less, and three releases more Drake is kind of a big deal. Like a Rihanna charming (excuse me, he calls her Robyn), SNL hosting, Alicia Key’s song writing big deal. So I guess he won that one! Luckily, despite the musician’s wide success in hip-hop and acting, his wardrobe choices haven’t always been as upward-moving.

DJ drop that mix tape below (that’s what that means, right?):

  • DrakeiHeartCREEPY: Look Aubrey, it doesn't matter how many lunches you grab with fellow television actor, rapper, and Justin Beiber friend Will Smith—boy that seems like a WEIRD group to run into on the street—it's still pretty freaking creepy to screen print an image of Smith's second son, Jaden, on a long-sleeve tee. Even/especially if the tee is your from your own fashion label

  • DrakeRollingStoneNO MORE DRAMA: There is already far too much crazy to sort through in Drake's interview in Rolling Stone's February 2014 issue that whatever this grape-slushie-colored-embroidered-velvet-thing that crawled onto the rapper for a corresponding photoshoot is, it is MORE than not needed. Those eggs tho.

  • DrakeCalvinKleinYOLO: You only live once, and it seems Drake is spending most of it in Calvin Kleins. The former Degrassi star already rocked custom Calvin Klein Collection outfits designed by Italo Zucchini for his North American tour last year (like this sky graphic tank to the right), and has a whole new set of fly Klein outfits for his current European "Would You like a Tour?" series, currently underway.

  • DrakeTaoJUST NO: Even if Steven Tyler was a silk-paisley-blue-wearing, prostitute-slapping pimp he would still not dress like this. Why does this exist and what table cloth factory did his hopefully ex-stylist steal this from?

  • DrakeGrammys13TAKE A SHOT OF HIM: As much as I can get behind a good sport/Kenzo look—and you know Drizzy loves to ball—I can also appreciate a really tight, smart tux, like this clean and contrasting navy and black Saint Laurent number the rapper showed up in at the 2013 Grammy's, proving that hip-hop can get haughty too. Not to be type-casted though, a few weeks after the award ceremony Drake returned to the Parisian brand for the NBA All Star Game for a more...comfortable outfit.

  • DrakeRedSTARTED FROM THE BOTTOM WITH REALLY BAD BOTTOM: I can't be positive, but I believe this photo was taken during the rapper's 'before he made it years,' when the now-Rihanna-embracing star was strapped for cash and relied heavily on participating in scientific studies to make end's meat. This image is thought to be data from a test to see if humans could physically wear patent leather red pants in public without literally combusting in flames. While the results proved that it was clearly possible, I cannot deny if the experiment was actually a success. No, actually I can. Don't do this.

  • DrakeBartSUBTLE NOSTALGIA: Sure the color scheme is a little Michael Jackson, and the idea is a little banjee hood, but there's something so hilariously not ironic of the subtle white Bart Simpson stencil on this oversized button down. Nor am I complaining about the black denim on black timbs look.

  • DrakeGQSTOCK PHOTOGRAPHY: Certainly not his most street-wise look, GQ styled the rapper as a modern day Miami real estate salesman for their July 2013 issue. The look—complete with a mall bought metallic two-pocket shirt, white pressed chinos, and blinding-gold matching jewelry—was terrifying..and that's before you even hear about his commission rates!

  • DrakeNickiNO NEW FRIENDS: D is REALLY trying to make this animal print thing work, but some things are better left to the girls. Cheetah prints, however, aren't one of them, so everyone just STFU, buy some solids, and move on

  • DrakeParisALL OF IT: White Hood by Air on white denim on white Air Jordan Retro 1's with an oversized envelope of a khaki jacket makes for a chic outfit and a dangerous game of 'what not to drink and inevitably spill on these ungodly expensive clothes.'

Grammy’s In Memoriam Misspells ‘Glee’ Actor’s Name

Be9azOUCEAIifFB

In memoriams have had a history of ruffling feathers in years past for either the omission of a certain person’s name (re: Farrah Fawcett, Etta James, Andy Griffith), or just being incredibly morose (see: the 2013 Emmy Awards). However, it is hard to remember the last time a late star’s name was blatantly misspelled. Unless of course you watched last night’s 56th annual Grammy Awards, which paid tribute to the late actor Cory Monteith, famous for his role on Glee. A kind gesture, muddied by the misspelling of his surname to read “Montieth” on the screen. Twitter was outraged; most of the public didn’t notice; nobody was thrilled.
