Key Looks: Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci SS’14 Collection

The bold styles of urban America and tribal Africa collide in Riccardo Tisci’s Givenchy collection for Spring 2014. Mr. Tisci was inspired by the strong motifs of Masai and Zulu iconography, heavy patterns that are transferred into modern streetwear by flipping their color schemes sideways. Strong stripes and powerful lines wrap around leggings, pant legs, and sleeves, matching the tribal face paint that covers the models’ faces. Urban US life gets its shout-out too, in the detailed prints of everyday objects that cover shirts, skirts, and coats. Mr. Tisci’s collection is a wanderer’s dream, a line that spans continents and oceans, speaking to the tireless vagabond searching for a place to call his own.
