For the ninth installment of an ongoing fruitful collaboration, Japanese fashion label Comme des Garçons SHIRT and ultra-cool The Generic Man have joined together again to unveil a new two-part line of bold sneakers inspired by two different models in the Generic catalogue: the Borstal and Slip On. The first style features swirling paisley pattern-cut suede in bright purple, fuchsia, and sea foam, while the second is made from actual quilted cotton and striped shirt fabrics from Comme des Garçons’ Spring/Summer 2015 collection in sky and navy.

CDG’s SHIRT line focuses on the concept of reworking the classic white by adding splashes of color, pattern, and unconventional fabrications. Its continued partnership with The Generic Man is a force to reckoned with as the two labels continue to surprise and excite us with their innovative shapes and contemporary designs.

Continuing in partnership with legendary Japanese label Comme des Garçons, Los Angeles-based shoemaker Brandon Day (of The Generic Man) re-imagines his Champion silhouette for the Fall 2014 season. Marking the eighth installment of the ongoing collaboration, the new version of the low-top sneaker features a black leather upper and custom and two variations of hand-poured marbled soles, ensuring the uniqueness of each pair—no two shoes are alike! The Champion is available now in Dover Street Market and online at END.
There’s not much that can be said about Dover Street Market—or its founder, the reclusive Rei Kawakubo—that hasn’t already been tried to be pulled out like teeth by the sartorial elite. We could count the number of veiled interviews this year alone with our fingers—if we weren’t already rushing to flip through the rare pages—in which Kawakubo allowed for public comment. There was one with Suzy Munkes, a conversation with Style.com Matthew Schneier, a few brief words for System Magazine‘s second issue, and, for the most part, that was it. Bottom line is, she’s very mysterious.
Now, Kawakubo’s New York edition of Dover Street Market, a seven-story, 18,00 square foot store, opens tomorrow (Saturday, December 21) in perhaps one of Manhattan’s least-posh neighborhoods: Murray Hill (the irony!). There is talk of a Louis Vuitton pop-up shop on the first floor, a Parisian-inspired Rose Bakery on the mezzanine (similar to the store’s counterparts in Tokyo and London), and even a DSM x Prada exclusive collection. All of this, though, is just speculation. What we do know is that the store’s epic stock-list has everything from A.P.C. denim for the everyday to Paco Rabanne couture. See the list of the first 76-known brands that the store will carry below (we’re sure they’ll be more), and we’ll be sure to catch you at the opening.
Dover Street Market New York opens at 160 Lexington Avenue on Saturday, December 21 from 11 AM – 9 PM.
Like the color pink on guys, floral prints do that whole, in-your-face juxtaposition thing—a dude, in pink? Flowers? What? But unlike the former, which all too easily has the ability to look more “duh” than daring, flowers manage to spout a real deal imprecation of gender in clothing. But also, they add some ‘tude. We will never forget those flittering flower children of the 60’s or Kurt Cobain’s grunge-y flouting of strict gender roles in the early 90’s (with his now legendary flower dress look). But, we’re also men of the modern age. Sure, you’ll find the influence of said historical moments in the men’s floral looks to come, but in 2013 these new designs are less about addressing boy-girl styles and more about exploring the flower in relation to male modernity. They span from the spiritual to digital, artistic, geographical and folksy realms to trend driven street aesthetics. Your pick. The Spring 2013 runways of designers like Ann Demeumeleester, Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Carven, Christopher Kane, Gucci, and Raf Simons all had new takes on men’s floral design and we’re keeping a watchful eye on those deliveries—some of which are just now starting to hit the store shelves/go up for pre-order. Find out where and also, shop some unexpected end of season Fall/Winter floral that’ll have staying power through the new year. Click though…
Actually, Y-3 will be dropping a sweet pair of floral sambas any day now, but if you can’t wait, or want everything, there’re still UK sizes 11 and 12 available in this Fall/Winter offering.
Its all De Stijl for lovers of conceptual beauty and primary coloes, The Generic Man and Comme des Garçons Shirt who have teamed up once again–this time for a collection of shoes. The collection launched this week with a rather unconventional video from Aaron Rose of “Beautiful Losers” fame featuring artist and musician Chris Johanson rhapsodizing on the philosophy of Stijl while showing off the suave new kicks. The shoes, made from suede and leather are available now starting at $350.
