The only exclusively men’s fashion house under LVMH, Berluti retains its masculine, utilitarian aesthetic with a range of bomber jackets, released alongside its Spring/Summer 2017 collection. Offering a warmer alternative to its Summer Essentials range, the collection includes a rock-inspired lambskin jacket, featuring a removable shearling collar with an alligator undercollar in blood-red, a shade reflected in the jacket’s silk lining. The collection is a part of creative director Haider Ackermann’s debut for the brand, a coveted designer whose modern, sophisticated draping and knotting style reflects his international upbringing.

Rounding out the collection, the remaining styles reunite the bomber with its military history—a jacket made with calfskin nubuck, finished in unfussy walnut-brown with a shearling collar and quilted lining, and a cashmere bomber in medium gray and violet, featuring a Berluti leather patch beneath the breast. With Ackermann’s skillful blending of color and material, Berluti redefines a classic men’s style.
The Berluti bomber jacket collection will be available in select stores starting April 18, 2017.
French house Berluti reiterates its claim on mens leather accessories, following the recent Krug collaboration in all its dark cherry splendor, with a new spirited and agile line of a much more relaxed nature. The Essential Summer Signatures collection consists of two bags and one pair of sandals that are just as well suited for life walking on the Mediterranean beaches as they are strolling down the Via Del Corso.

The B-Light backpack, available in Hike On and Off Track variations, is a nylon answer to travel’s trickiest issue—the luggage. The former, a more compact companion, fits a standard laptop and all of the essentials, tucked neatly away within its many easy-access pockets. Its older brother, the Off Track, is a clever two-in-one—a quick snap and the bag becomes a tote and vice versa, leather accents on the drawstrings making it a Berluti staple with a deluxe touch of drama. The undisputed champion of the release, however, is the Paros sandal, a strappy shoe that reminisces a Capri getaway. Perfect for the simple man with a taste to match, the sandal is available in both a khaki and Gialo color scheme and rounds out a collection that builds on Berluti’s continued dedication to the reworking and reapplication of quality cultivated leather.
The Berluti B-Light backpack and Paros sandal will be available in stores beginning February and March 2017, respectively.

When Joseph Krug, the winemaker behind the elite champagne-house Krug, took to creating the perfect blend, he wrote down his notes and thoughts in a journal of a distinct, dark cherry color. Over a century later, when Krug and Berluti, two properties of LVMH, collaborated on a new collection of dress shoes, they were inspired by Joseph’s notebook and recreated the dark cherry patina on the shoe’s leather. Now, for autumn 2016, Berluti and Krug expand their partnership and honor Joseph Krug with a new collection of bags in the same dark cherry gloss. The new style draws from Berluti’s emblematic Un Jour briefcase and comes in two sizes, both of which are designed to hold the respective brands’ iconic champagne and shoes. Both bags feature an outer zip pocket with a Venezia leather zip-pull, and the Berluti pour Krug signature features inside and out. Each bag comes with removable compartments, a bottle of Krug Grande Cuvée, and Joseph champagne glasses. The bags, limited edition with only 100 available, pay tribute to the longstanding excellence of both French luxury brands, known for their elegance and refinement. The collection is one of the earliest releases from Berluti under its new creative director, Haider Ackermann.
The Berluti pour Krug bag will be available mid-October at Berluti boutiques.

Effective immediately, Colombian designer Haider Ackermann takes creative control of French fashion house Berluti, following the departure of ESSENTIAL HOMME December/January 2016 cover star Alessandro Sartori from the position in February. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Ackermann’s eponymous label, created in 2003, carved a niche for itself in the fashion industry with eclectic ready-to-wear and unique tailoring. Dubbed by many as the “new Yves Saint-Laurent,” and once Karl Lagerfeld’s ideal successor for Chanel, Ackermann will bring his sartorial charm to the iconic Berluti legacy. All eyes will be on the new Creative Director during the first runway under his new title at Paris Men’s Fashion Week, January 2017. “I am very honored to join Berluti,” says Ackermann. “This house stands for the essence of luxury menswear and embracing this new adventure inspires me.”
Leaving his role as Artistic Director of Berluti—a five year post in which the designer transformed the bespoke shoe brand into one of LVMH’s most powerful labels—Alessandro Sartori joins Ermenegildo Zegna, now creatively overseeing all of the group’s brands. A homecoming, Sartori served as Artistic Director of Z Zegna from 2003 to 2011, launching the young line at Pitti Uomo and then carving out a place for it in the contemporary market. On his new appointment the designer said, “I grew up watching and admiring [the Zegna family’s] creations, and I am extremely excited to write the next chapter. I cannot wait to enter their fabulous archives and to meet their artisans [and] start working on the new collections.” Sartori follows Stefano Pilati, whose last offering for Autumn/Winter 2016 just showed at Milan Fashion Week, and whose own departure is just one of the many shuffling of chairs to shake up the fashion world in recent weeks.
From first looks backstage to post-show details, Fashion Month is a rampant, non-stop race from runway to retail. As we continue to bring you our favorite snaps in media res on Instagram, here we back away and take pause to present a curated look at the best moments of the season.
Berluti
Artistic Director Alessandro Sartori showed innovation in menswear with Berluti‘s Autumn/Winter 2016 double-front jackets, desert tints, and soothing accents of raspberry and blue hues.
Givenchy
Givenchy’s Autumn/Winter 2016 collection celebrated a trend inspired by freedom through different cultural references marked on bomber jackets and coats.
KENZO
An eye-popping collection with polished coats and thick color palettes was delivered in KENZO Autumn/Winter 2016.
Acne Studios
A military influence with added decoration and mixed in lavenders made up Acne Studios‘ Autumn/Winter 2016 collection through a reinterpretation of creative director Jonny Johansson’s military past.
Earlier this week, noted choreographer Benjamin Millepied, former New York City Ballet star Janie Taylor, and an intimate chorus of dancers allowed a one-night only performance at the L.A Dance Project’s annual benefit event. Three pieces were performed throughout the night, one being Millepied’s “Hearts and Arrows,” which featured a custom garment designed by Berluti Artistic Director Alessandro Sartori. Ultra-light construction and super-stretch fabric lent to Millepied’s costume, a deconstructed and elastane seamless wool suit perfect for fluid movement. The second collaboration between them—the two creatives first teamed up last September for an André Saraiva short, “Rendez-Vous Au Club Swann”—both foot and hand reunite to fuse their respective worlds of art.
Following last year’s tradition, Alessandro Sartori, the artistic director of Berluti, covers Essential Homme‘s December 2015 / January 2016, the annual designer issue.
