Preview Canali Spring/Summer 2016

Video: Canali.

The first few early sights of Canali’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection—as hinted in the Italian brand’s new mood video above—are clear signs of the house’s continued dedication to create not only pieces of clothing, but also a works of art. Extracting the magical beauty of a kaleidoscope as a source of inspiration, Canali’s creative consultant, Andrea Pompilio, seeks to render the ultimate Canali man, “suspended in the timeless atmosphere of an everlasting Mediterranean Summer.” The chromatic collage transforms that which enchanted Pompilio’s mind, with the new collection working to mold a spectrum of colors that each progress into another kind—blues transform from sky to aquamarine, mix with warm earth tones of ochre, caramel, and burgundy, and are illuminated by flashes of deep sea greens. These transformative hues will then be imprinted onto fabrics that are equally nimble and destructured, as Pompilio once again refuses to conform to traditions. Like a sudden summer storm, the new season of Canali is all about the changing ethereal. Get ready.

For his first comprehensive release under the fashion house, Canali’s newly appointed designer Andrea Pompilio reveals an obtainable modernism long awaited for in menswear. Bright mustard contrasts a mostly monochromatic black, white, and gray textured Autumn/Winter 2015 collection of striped and wool pants paired with pebbled leather overcoats, check ensembles in magnificent creams and contrasting blacks, and leather goods that literally stick to the wrist; all for a quirky assortment of luxuriously unique suiting.

Finding that at times devious middle ground between future-seeking fashion and references from which we already know—in this case the sport and immediate affair of military uniforms—Andrea Pompilio raises the waistlines and overemphasizes the neck for a casual and loose Autumn/Winter 2015 season.

Andrea Pompilio Appointed Designer of Canali

Andrea-Pompilio-new-Potrait-(2)Image: Canali.

Call him kooky or call him creative, but there is neither confusion nor misunderstanding of Andrea Pompilio’s mastery for creating clothes that push the cuffs of what contemporary menswear means. Perhaps this is why it comes as no surprise today that Canali—the Italian house that recruited Pompilio last season to design a capsule collection—has recently appointed Pompilio as designer of the brand entirely. Now in charge of Canali’s whole collection across all categories, we can’t wait to see what Pompilio presents for Autumn/Winter 2015 this Monday on the runway. Until then, here’s a special preview of the art-inspired collection:

Enter the Vivacious World of Andrea Pompilio, Canali’s New Creative Consultant for SS15

215x215_3“I live and design for the moment we are living in now,” says designer Andrea Pompilio—a menswear force in his own right and latest recruit from Canali‘s creative team—in a new video for the luxury brand’s 200 steps interview series. Created as a companion to Pompilio’s debut capsule collection for the Italian house, the short film welds together the known heritage of Canali and the newfound inspiration from the designer’s clever—and sometimes kooky—observations. From people watching at airports to hunting through vintage cinema, Pompilio’s translation of the subtle gestures of the everyday is what makes his vision so unique. With a whit similar to Agnès Varda and creatively-sophisticated video techniques that only a brand like Canali could produce, the short film is very much like a great introduction at a party—when you meet someone so thrilling for the first time and immediately know that the two of you are going to be the best of friends.

Andrea Pompilio Fall 2012 Preview

ANDREA POMPILIO FALL 2012

Andrea Pompilio Fall 2012 Preview

Andrea Pompilio is a name you’ll be hearing a lot  in the near future. He won the Italian Pitti Who’s On Next competition a few seasons ago—and his first time showing—and has continued to present bold and covetable collections that master footwear, outerwear, bags, shirts….ok, everything. When collections come out with so many strong pieces, the competition for your eye can cause the entirety to come off as gauche, too much, the dreaded—”trying too hard”, yet with Pompilio, the looks work as a whole. For Fall 2012, he was inspired by Cheetah, the monkey-star from Tarzan who died earlier this year. The result lands us a sophisticated collection that recalls the playfulness of our past. Cheetah appears on sweatshirts, button ups, bags and Pimpilio makes a certain wink and nod through his headwear. Its still difficult to find Andrea Pompilio outside of Italy. Stateside, Jeffrey New York has some stuff in the brick and mortar store andonline retailer The Corner also has a bunch of stuff.
